Fun fact about Catherine Zeta-Jones, when she was younger she had to have a tracheostomy tube put in due to an allergic rection she had. (basically a hole is made into the trachea below the obstruction to allow the person to breath.) A lot of times people who have had it done suffer with scaring. Any close ups of her neck you'll notice a small scar running across her neck which is where the insison was made. I know because I have my own, tube not scar, however I know what thye look like and she did an interview on a pritish tv show where she talked about it.

Hell, yes. I love that music, and it all really rewards excellent voices. They both surprised me. Actually, Sacha Baron Cohen as Pirelli proved himself a hell of a performer too. (Not so much for beautiful singing, but for really delivering a great comedic scene, and singing it quite well.)

Great actor… but definitely not a vocalist. There are so many truly talented people out there that could’ve done the role Justice, but sadly weren’t given the chance because producers were too afraid to cast anyone “unknown”

Actually, the sad part of all of this is that 80 years ago, over 90% of movie actors came from a vaudeville background and they could sing, dance and tell jokes with impeccable timing. My favorite actress was Barbara Stanwyck, who actually was a "Ziegfeld Girl" (The Ziegfeld Follies were a series of elaborate theatrical revue productions on Broadway in New York City from 1907 to 1931, with renewals in 1934 and 1936. ) before going to Hollywood.

I think the difference is that Jamie was known first for comedy, then for his music, then for his acting chops. Rather than being known for his acting and being surprised about the music thing.

I'm really shocked that Taye Diggs, Rosario Dawson and Jackie Chan were nowhere on this list because their vocals are absolutely amazing! I also would like to give Catherine her flowers because this woman was pregnant while filming Chicago... PREGNANT Y'ALL! She slid on her stomach at the end of "I can not do it alone" & did all the intense chorography in the movie. Rick is a GREAT singer! He is still the best Seymour I have ever seen, and anyone after is just trying to match him (I have seen better Dentists, no offense to Steve Martin, he was very good!)

I haven't seen anyone mention Gwyneth Paltrow. Admittedly, Duets wasn't hugely popular, but it shocked me how good she was. But if you hadn't seen her then, her performances on Glee should have got you.

I didn’t know Cyclopes (James Marsden) could sing until Enchanted. He’s was so goofy, charming, handsome AND could sing!

On Meryl I’d argue her singing “You Don’t Know Me” from that same film truly shows what she can do as a vocalist.

That Hugh Jackman Tony Awards show (which I saw live for some reason) was the number one shocker for me! Followed closely by Ewan MacGregor belting out the Sound of Music (I had not been paying attention to the hype around Moulin Rouge so I had no idea it was a musical when I first watched it). Both delightful surprises!

Antonio Banderes did an AMAZING job in Evita. Mandy was wonderful too but Antonio had *verisimilitude*

Scott Bakula - Seeing him sing "Imagine" in Quantum Leap was the first time I ever realized that actors could sing too (I was a kid at the time). Lucy Lawless - Xena (I don't remember which episode specifically, but there were several where she sang) Anthony Stewart Head - Buffy. Obviously in "Once More With Feeling", but there were a couple episodes before that where he sang.

In the same musical vein you see him play the drums in _Shallow Grave_ which is one of my favorites of his movies. He's played for most of his life and Danny Boyle just made use of it. 😄

I really like Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix's performances in "Walk the Line" Both had STELLER portrayals of two very iconic people!

Honorable mention Sam Claflin in Daisy Jones and the Six

How could Ethan Peck be overlooked? So unbelievably shocked to hear his wonderful voice in Star Trek Strange New Worlds 0209 Subspace Rhapsody. I could keep watching the episode over and over again, as far as TV musical episodes go this has shot to the top of my list largely in part for his voice.

Seth MacFarlane when he was featured on a Logic song I knew he could sing from Family Guy but I guess a lot of people didn't know until that Logic song came out.

Tom Ellis is a real signer. It was a surprise. Hugh Laurie is also a great pianist and signer. He is a blues musician.

(His debut studio album _The Futurist_ was mentioned as an Easter egg by Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye during _Captain America: Civil War_ when he said "the futurist is here! he sees all".)

You forgot about Shannen Doherty She plays guitar and does sing some too She sang some in “ Friends till the End”and admits that is her real voice I know am very impressed and still find myself singing “Don’t Be” half the time and will brush my teeth to “ Stop” Her range is incredible and you should check it out Her talent runs in her family Sean Doherty is her brother and is just as talented too

It's the way his voice soares above the simple melody. His pitch is perfect. Nicole Kidman did a radio interview with Steve Wright and said when he first started singing with her he made a few mistakes and it wasn't until she had built up her confidence that she realised he had been making mistakes on purpose to make her feel better. There's also a clip of him singing Angels with Robbie Williams. Guess who sings it best.

Mamma Mia came out when I was a kid and I’ve been obsessed since then! It became one of my favorite musicals and pretty much shaped who I am today. 💙

Unpopular opinion: I like Grease 2 better. It might have something to do with Michelle though. Between her role there and her performance as cat woman, that was my first girl crush 🥰

A recent favorite of mine is Emilia Jones in CODA!

so many good ones here! "empty chairs at empty tables" makes me sob just THINKING about it. eddie redmayne's rendition is heart-wrenching. and ALL of "walk the line" got me. it was the whole story, not any one song.

Don’t underestimate the talented voicing of these actors/actresses. They can sing so good, they all belong in Phantom of the Opera or even Hamilton. Dwayne Johnson is my fave, and so is Kristen Bell. Also Marvel stars like Hugh Jackman, Jeremy Renner, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield… now I want a Spider-Man musical.

They tried that, and it was so plagued by accidents and played so poorly when it opened that it only lasted for two or three showings.

Feel like this comes up every time Eddie Redmayne is on a list like this but I just have to say it: his rendition of "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" is haunting and he is arguably the best thing about the Les Mis movie. Just brilliant. And look: I love The Rock. He's great and entertaining but he's not a great singer so the fact that he's placing higher on this list then Eddie Redmayne is a travesty.

Emmy Rossum's performance in "Phantom" just blew me away as an astounding surprise. Andrew Lloyd Weber's songs aren't the easiest in the world. Kristen Bell was a pleasant surprise. Emma Stone was another pleasant surprise, but the Oscar just proved her skills. On the other hand, Antonio Banderas was less of a surprise because he had been a member of a Spanish "garage band" before coming to the USA. Hugh Jackman's skills are so far-ranging that it is hard to be surprised by ANYTHING he does.

I'd have Amanda higher - I love her voice. In Mumma Mia Here we go again - and Ted 2. So pure and sweet.

'Once More, with Feeling' (2001) an musical episode of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'. Sarah Michelle Gellar and the whole cast sing through the episode. Great stuff.

Wow there were some surprises in this one I didn't know (Jeremy Renner for example), nice video! Totally agree as well with your Number One, that film is still one of the ones I go back quite a lot for the awesome music (Renée was also quite good in it I felt personally, but Catherine nailed it).

Eddie Redmayne is great! He has a gorgeous, resonant tenor voice!

I knew a lot of this, but Jeremy Renner was a surprise. I am a fan of his acting. I will have to check out his music.

Garret Hedlund who played Jack in Four Brothers and Sam Flynn in Tron Legacy, can sing insanely well and he shows off his chops in Tulsa King.

He was also insanely moving in 'Country Strong', & another one whose title I can't remember, but 'Sibyl' from 'Downton Abbey' was his sister...

This is an awesome list. Can you also do a list of soap opera actors and actresses that can also sing?

Greg Kinnear singing Summertime, with Meryl dancing, in Stuck on You was a delight and my favorite guilty pleasure.

YEEEEEES! So happy I found this comment. I was determined to mention it positive no other comments would bring it up. I adore that movie and for YEARS I assumed he was dubbed 😅 when I found out he actually sang I was gobsmacked!

Kevin Bacon and Gary Sinise each have bands that tour when they're not busy with films. (The Bacon Brothers and The Lt Dan Band, respectively)

I know its not a showstopper but Tim Omundson singing Good Night My Friend on Galavant was sooooo sweet.

Paul Sorvino in Romeo + Juliet. HOLY SHIT. He was the only thing that could have possibly competed with the fabulosity of Mercutio in that music number!

Paul Sorvino was a trained opera singer.

I would say Oscar Isaac. I heard him sing in Sucker Punch singing Love is the Drug and then in Inside Llewyn Davis, who knew he could sing that like that. Just amazing!

Amanda Seyfried also was in the film Les Misérables along with Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helena Bonham Carter, she was playing Anne Hathaway's Fatine's daughter adopted by Hugh Jackman's character in the film and the love interest of Eddie Redmayne's character

The one that shocked me the most was Tom Cruise. Obviously there's the singing in Top Gun, but when Rock of Ages came around I didn't know what to expect.

The one that really took me by surprise was Kim Basinger in "The Marrying Man." What a voice!

Pfeiffer is the best. Regardless of the criticism that Grease 2 gets, I think she is the best thing in the movie for sure and whereas I never thought Olivia Newton-John was anything crazy. I fell in fan-love with Pfeiffer from that moment on. Fabulous Baker boys and prince of Egypt further proved what a incredible performer she is

Kevin Spacey on numerous talk shows, specials etc. eventually leading up to singing AND dancing as Bobby Darin in ‘Beyond the Sea’ Nominated for a Golden Globe, too

Tick Tick Boom caught everyone so off guard. I was beyond floored. He not only sang fantastically but performed the songs fantastically as well

Antonio Banderas even did The Phantom of the opera...Reese did Sing 1 and Sing 2 as well with Scarlett Johansson... so where is she??? Or what about Neil Patrick Harris or Jennifer Love Hewitt or Joseph Gordon-Levitt. You could made a top 30...

Pretty sure it was Gerald Butler in Phantom. Antonio Banderas was up for the part, but he didn't get it.

@peterang6912 Oh, yes, with Sarah Brightman. But he was in the Andrew Lloyd Webber: The Royal Albert Hall Celebration, which was a concert featuring Webber's most popular music from many musicals. Antonio Banderas sang Phantom's part in titular song in that concert, but he didn't actually play the role of Phantom in the fully staged musical. He was in Evita, though.

Streep really surprised/amazed me. What pipes!

What about Taron Egerton and Richard Madden? They both sang in "Rocketman" and I for one had no idea either of them could sing at all.
