I was a teenager in the 80's and discovered Death Metal listening to the local college radio station 88.7 WNHU. On Saturdays they would play all metal from 12 pm to 3 am. I was a Freshman in High School in "85 when I started spending a lot of Saturday nights in my bedroom recording songs from the radio to cassette tapes...I had dozens of tapes of all the songs I liked. The first Death Metal albums I bought was Possessed - Seven Churches and Death's Scream Bloody Gore

@@humanbrisket7718 yeah im technically part time at my job although i get full time hours (talk about getting fucked out of benefits) so my schedule fluxates but yeah the opening shifts are nice, its working them noon to 10 shifts that are a drag. Overnights are terrible, thankfully the job i have now doesnt do those shifts but when i worked those at other places, it killed my spirit. Sorry for such a long reply, just got off and am going through the comments 😂😂

Tomb of the Mutilated is the album which got me into death metal.Awesome riffs,brutal vocals and lyrics combined with a great production.

Awesome list. I definitely have a small chunk of those in my top twenty. But even the ones that aren’t, most of them I have on vinyl and/or cd and love em!

Great stuff! Several of those are on my tentative list (will finalize sooner or later) while I would have chosen a different album for a few others. I'd never heard of Centurian, so thanx for introducing me to them! (Strangely, I'd recently explored Dutch death metal, yet they passed me by.) A couple years ago my daughter was listening to Slipknot; I shared a couple tracks from None So Vile with her and she was immediately hooked. (I 100% agree it's all killer, no filler!) She soon explored the early greats (Morbid Angel, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, etc) and then found black metal via Marduk. Currently, she listens to more black metal than anything, but still visits Cryptopsy and Morbid Angel regularly.

Cool list! I actually saw Hypocrisy live on a festival were Dark Funeral also played before Caligula left them, and when Hypocrosy played Pleasure of Molestation Caligula (Masse Broberg) went on stage and did the vocals, it was awesome! Malevolent Creation is vastly underrated, as you said they have released a lot of albums but they all range from good to excellent.

OBITUARY Cause Of Death was my first DEATH METAL album. That was early 1991. We all know what an incredible year for DM that was. I think I was in the right place at the right time. I would go to CAMELOT MUSIC in the mall, go straight to the METAL section, and start at A and go through everything to Z. I remember staring at the artwork for COD thinking "with an album cover this killer, the music has to be good". I have a clear memory pushing play on it the first time, and that intro, the death drums, the gnarly tone of the guitars... then the vocals hit me. That was it. I still get that feeling when I listen to it.

So many great ones, hard to rank but Obituarys " Cause of Death", Autopsy and Suffocations debut are among my favorites

that Krisiun is a banger - gotta love death metal Slayer with blasts surprised no Grave album hmm maybe it's time to do one on my channel

Dying fetus was one of the first death metal bands I got into saw that streaks of blood covered online and saw that it was a cover and checked out baphomet because of it and loved it

@@kolemyers21 I don't personally know anybody besides me who listens to deathcore (metal is not very popular amongst young people in Spain, which is dominanted by latin trap and reggaeton) so you might be right idk. What I really hate about deathcore is how all those fucking idiots on yt react to every single new song by the latest Lorna Shore copy cat and pretend to be excited for it and go nuts when the "totally unexpected chug chug breakdown" hits. It's all so fucking boring, those mfs don't even know who Suffocation and Criptopsy are. But still, I don't care how the fanbase as a whole is, I'm just in for the music. If you ever want to give the genre a second chance I recommend Shadow Of Intent's latest album (not a single breakdown on that one) and in a more typical deathcore style the latest Fit For And Autopsy one, which has well implemented breakdowns and grooves hard. Also check out Lunacrium Thepsis by The Dark Alamorte if you like blackened stuff.

Suprised no one has mentioned Demilich's Nespithe yet. Insane fucking vocals, full of wacky yet oddly groovy headbangable riffs. If Inherited Rovel Levitation or The Planet doesn't make you want to wait for the green light before crossing the street, there's something wrong with you brah brah.

they sound like no one else. i think after they write a song, they practice playing the notes in reverse order. since the music in not in any known mode.... when the notes are played in reverse order the mode is mostly phrygian and locrian

I guess today it'd be considered more grind? Whatever. But back when I first heard Exhumed, I simply viewed it as death metal. I'm sure some won't see Sadistik Exekution as "pure" death metal either, which I can understand... Never had Apocalyptic Revelations on vinyl. Gonna pick it up on HHR!

This guy is hilarious

I’m an old metal head and hearing Chuck singing Zombie Ritual on some label compilation was my first experience hearing that style of metal and vocal delivery. It was before Scream Bloody Gore was released. But Then! I actually heard HellHammer first. And it’s a totally different “ animal” compared to Death. So it’s really hard to say.

Welp, Hellhammer isn't really death metal... But both Death and Hellhammer are extreme metal.

i would add hellwitch, nuclear death, and probably internicine in there in my tops, aside from ep/mlp's, but killer picks you have there

A lot of these are amongst my favorites, I would add albums like: Molesting the Decapitated, The Magus, Dark Recollections, Voracious Contempt, Effigy of the Forgotten and a couple others.

It gunna lie, when I was 8 years old I thought slipknot was super heavy. But, then I heard eviseration plague a year or 2 later, and slaves shall serve by behemoth and was like, yeah that’s way too much for me. But when I got a little older it hit hard.

You must be younger than me I'm guessing. I'm a year older than the dawg and when Slipknot came out I was around 16 or so. I mainly remember thinking some of it was ok and some of it was completely crap.

I remember playing Here in After and my mom thought the tape deck was eating the tape, warped and evil sounding🤘

Maybe it's just me, but I think Butchered at Birth is the best Cannibal Corpse album. Pretty sure Barnes once said that Butchered gets overshadowed by Tomb and personally I agree with him.

I kinda agree but there’s something about tomb… but the songs on butchered are killer, that’s probably the most unique CC album. Though if the vocals were better I’d pick eaten any day of the week, love the thrashing riffs

I agree with most of the picks, but I would've thrown in Devourment "Molesting the Decapitated", Divine Empire "Redemption" Vital Remains "Icons of Evil" and Infester " To the Depths of Degradation".

I don’t own my favorite death metal album sadly. I was gonna get it at my local record store but my mom flipped out when she saw the back (it was the hell’s headbangers reissue) hahaha so I had to settle for Immolation - Here in After

Fucking impossible to find anyc copy worth buying under 200 bucks. But that's the shit we gotta deal with I guess. Same with Nile Those Whom The Gods Detest and Dismember's literally all of them.

I always try to own all my favorites. Most of the stuff on KZread has inferior sound quality. I like to put the official cd in my cd player and let it rip on my home stereo, brah brah!

What kind of sound system do you use in that Metal dungeon?

Even though I know J-dawg doesn't normally like doom I would be curious to see what he would put on top 10 or 20 list.
