Absolutely! Whether it was the CIA backing Operation Ajax in Iran in 1953 or the Bay of Pigs invasion, they have done plenty of bad. If there is one government agency that has to be abolished, it should probably be the CIA.
Even though he wasn't ever President, Al Haig during the Reagan assassination attempt was an infamous when he said, "Constitutionally, gentlemen, you have the president, the vice president, and the secretary of state in that order, and should the president decide he wants to transfer the helm to the vice president, he will do so." My honorable mention during H.W.'s presidency is when he puked on the Japanese Prime Minister's lap 😂 the Japanese made a word for it: bushu-suru (ブッシュする). Literally, "To do the Bush thing."
"Embarrassing" is the wrong kind of adjective for most of these. Many of them are disgraceful, and most of the embarrassement is in historical hindsight. For George W Bush they could have picked his speech where he said [I paraphrase out of memory] "our enemies never stop thinking about harming the US, and so do we".

To be fair to Wilson (whoa guys, settle down), he was elected in November of 1916, the Zimmerman Telegram was January 1917, Inauguration was March 4, 1917, and Wilson called for war before Congress on April 2, 1917 (and they agreed 82-6). FDR asked Congress to declare war against Japan the same year he was re-inaugurated after campaigning that "The nation will remain a neutral nation, as long as it remains within my power to prevent, there will be no blackout of peace in the United States" The way you said it made it sound like you thought it was an unfounded about-face... tho I'm pretty sure that's *not* how you actually see it. Watch mojo is large just click bait videos with no real original content. Plus they continually get facts wrong. Let's see, top 10 prez, according to WM...my guess is 1 and 2 are Washington and Lincoln(easy) and #3 is FDR?
I liked this video and your analysis of it, but I do wish they'd split it into two videos; one about biggest stains on presidential kegacies and one about just actual emberassing moments (the "No new taxes" being a possible example, even milder being Ford's "tumble"). Maybe even a third: post/pre-presidential moments.
Fun little fact when Bush made that statement on that ship my brother was on that ship severing, what they don't tell you though is they where so close to San Diego. You could see the shore from the ship but they made them stop out there so Bush could fly on and make his statement. Yes, James Buchanan is remembered for his inaction, but he did also MAKE some very bad decisions such as endorsing the pro-slavery Lecompton constitution in Kansas when it was clear that the majority of the people living in Kansas were not pro-slavery. Great video as always Chris! One nitpick I have is that if you look at the 92 election, after Perot's campaign initally tanked and he dropped out, and after the Democratic convention, Clinton was leading by around 55 to 31 percent. Perot got back in and won the first debate, which boosted his numbers to 19%, but ultimately, it was the economy and the broken pledge that cost Bush the election. If it was a two-way race, Clinton still would have won comfortably (would have been best for the country if Perot won, though).
That comment about the CIA with the Bay of Pigs was hilarious😂

What Harding did is an example of the recent decision by the Supreme Court can have drastic consequence no matter what party or ideology no one should be held unaccountable for there actions.
@Kayvel54
27 күн бұрын
That's incorrect. There is accountability. There always was, and there still is. What the recent SCOTUS decision did was put on paper to limit the power of courts of states and the DoJ. To prosecute a President they need to be impeached and convicted by the senate then the DoJ/State courts can go after him for that crime since Conviction just removes him from office. Without that decision in place, A Republican or any party leader that gets into office could go after and prosecute any former or would be future president. A prime example of this would be Trump getting into office and having his DoJ go after Obama, or the state of Texas, on the grounds of murder (he did drone strike US citizens). With the decision that was released they can't do that without congress impeaching and convicting Obama. Without that protection we'll see a back and forth of prosecution of political rivals across the political spectrum. It would undermined the checks and balances that were set in place by the founding fathers.

Another thing people rarely mention about the Bush & Iraq thing - Saddam was being very intentionally uncooperative & threw out UN weapons inspectors. I know it's easily ignored or forgotten now, but Iraq HAD WMDs in the recent past & had even used them against its own people. They finally agreed to cooperate with UN laws & inspections to show they were on the up & up, only to then abruptly stop. Even before the actual invasion, Bush & US officials all but said they will invade if they don't address this & begin cooperation again, but Saddam was defiant & refused. So along with the inaccurate intelligence being provided to Bush & the UN, satellite images showing these mobile sites, and Saddam's refusal to continue cooperating with the UN, it made people on both sides convinced there was something bad they were hiding. I'm seriously not trying to justify anything, the war was definitely a huge mistake, only providing context for those who think it was solely a Bush thing when in reality, 90% of congress agreed & voted for war.
@davidreece5867
27 күн бұрын
Actually, the inspectors were allowed back in and were within weeks of a formal report declaring that Iraq had complied with UN resolutions. Iraq had used chemical weapons 15 years before in the Iran-Iraq War and against Kurds and Shi’ite Muslims who were supportive of Iran. So it wasn’t recently. Saddam didn’t want it known by his enemies within and without Iraq because he was afraid of invasion.

It's worth noting that public opinion in other countries who joined the war was very different from public opinion in the US. In the UK there was huge opposition to the Iraq war among the public (though the two main parties did support the war). It was widely known here that the UN weapons inspectors were close to declaring that Iraq didn't actually have WMDs anymore.

At the time, 73% of Americans supported invading Iraq and just 16% opposed. That's overwhelming support.

@@VloggingThroughHistory I think it was very much a generational thing. I was 15 at the time and most people my age and below were against it. We just weren't old enough to have a say.
No way I’m from Inverness. I’ll keep an eye out for your laptop 🤣
The gulf of tonken happened just not as it was claimed
34:06 woahhh Chris saying things like that might get you end up drowning in a puddle or commit self harm with 2 broken arms and a broken leg
Carter and the killer rabbit better be #1.
I loved your reaction to number one. You were like: Oh... yeah, that
The one thing about the Monica Lewinsky scandal that doesn't get talked about enough in that it was less about the affair, it was more about it being a superior having sexual relations with a subordinate. The power that Clinton had, not only as President, but as the "boss" of Lewinsky, he had power over her with regards to her job and could use that he well pleased

Still the impeachment was BS pure political reasons and not actual reasons although Clinton is a heinous individual

Compared to the things today, it isnt even that serious. Man the 90s were really innocent, if only they knew the scandals that were to come.

She came onto him first. She should share blame. True he had power, but she chose to come onto him without being pressured.
I’d take one of the more dubious entries and replace it with Jimmy Carter wnd the hostage crisis where Iran took several Americans as hostages whom were not released until barely after Ronald Reagan’s inauguration. As an aside, it was a situation that saw NBC create their now famous news show _Nightline_ , originally hosted by Ted Koppel, it gave nightly updates on the ordeal.
20:55 No conflict there ... Col Sanders will treat his chickens with the care a concern that he's always thought they deserved! LOL
It's nice to remember that presidents are just like us sometimes 😂
The issue with the Clinton and Trump stuff is that it’s all personal business. I don’t factor in character like you and Mr. Beat do (love your ranking videos btw), I only care about effectiveness and if they were good for the country or not.

Trump was hiding a scandal at a time when he was weak just before the election. That's what made it a felony instead of just a minor accounting charge.
Man I never thought I’d live to see the day that you have of All people would use the what about ism as an argument defending Woodrow Wilson 😂. Happy fourth of July.
Who was the guy with the big forehead that wasn't John Adams? That's the most important question right now.
I agree impeachments are gonna become more common
Hey Chris, you should react to a video called "Stopping at McDonald's in 1989", where the guy is vlogging at a McDonalds, in 1989. Seems more like 1983 to me though. It would be nice to get someone who was around at the time to do a commentary about it. There's another similar cool video by a Spanish vlogger who vlogged himself on top of the World Trade Center before it was destroyed. Super HD footage. That one's called "SUBIMOS a las TORRES GEMELAS 3 meses antes del 11 SEPT"
Since we're back to us presidents, can you do every us president explained by the paint explainer.
A great wiseman once said “Honestly who throws a shoe”
Id love to hear your take on the supreme court case
happy 4th of july to everybody, cheers from argentina
In 2003 I was here in Australia and I had enough sources to know that the WMD thing was rubbish.
Grover Cleveland was at his wife's baby shower lol
Warren Harding's biggest embarrassment was the entire Nan Britton episode, and the Harding family's response to it.
I’ve commented this before, but Watchmojo’s older videos (from their beginning to 2015) were far better than their videos since 2020. If you choose to react to WM its best to do their old stuff.
Welcome back !!
Hey theres Empress Sisi series on Netflix, later this year there will be season 2. Id love your comment or full video about empress.
Did anyone see him roll his eyes when Bush said “Saddam was a threat weapons or no weapons” lol
Whenever people like to throw around “worst president” I’m now gonna direct them to Buchanan’s section of the WatchMojo video
I’m guessing the recent debate isn’t on here. The Howard Dean “YEEAAUUUUHHH!” better be.

I was with you when Watergate was named #3. Like what the heck could be worse. Then the drop the Top 2. And I was like "Oh. Yeah."
12:36 I think you are forgetting some other recent one term president that wasn‘t reelected in the next election. 😅
My guy looks so beyond stoned…but who am I to judge lol
