Top 20 Country Total Patent (Invention) History (1980-2017)

This video shows the Top 20 countries with the highest number of patents (innovations) from 1980 to 2017. East Asian (especially Japan, China, and South Korea) countries and the USA have been dominating since the start of the video.
A patent is a form of intellectual property that gives its owner the legal right to exclude others from making, using, selling, and importing an invention for a limited period of years, in exchange for publishing an enabling public disclosure of the invention.

Laymen don't know triadic patents here... they are the gold standard patent family, Japan is at the top, followed by U.S. and then Germany. Quantity isn't quality, Furthermore the Chinese patent law is well known for its low standards, allowing them to patent any shit with minimal difference or improvement in relation to the others, that's why most Chinese patents are worthless. Easy to see how it works cuz several chinese patents are likely to cite the very same American, Japanese or European patent dozens of different times but on the opposite side, chinese patents get the attention of almost nobody

@Oscar Wong It's not a dislike of the Chinese people but of the State. And the State definitely deserves some criticism. Economically they are doing great because they have largely adopted capitalism but they are still extremely lacking in the free speech and individual liberty categories. You get a really unclear picture of China from the outside because opinions counter to the governments official stance are heavily censored. Which creates this view from outside that every Chinese person is an unthinking, unemotional drone in complete lock step with their government. Everyone hates America too, but at least Americans have no shortage of open self criticism, which makes their patriotism at least a little more palatable. Maybe one day some of the Chinese economic freedom will spill over into social and political freedom and people on the outside will get to see Chinese people as the individual humans they are.
