    @@brendanoneil3489 So what? Cliche literally means "norm". Things become norm when a lot of people admire it and copy it, that's how you know it's great! I know how you feel though, I felt the same about his other videos, made me feel like those solos were terrible, but then I realized he's a great guitarist and admires songs with these "cliches" in them... My ego was the one taking the hit, not the actual play style.

    Diminished scales are a great way to transition between keys, but lots of bands use it for dissonance to be edgy as noted.

    If anyone's wondering, the "middle-eastern bit" is Phrygian Dominant, the 5th mode of the Harminic Minor scale. It's like Phrigian (3rd mode of Major scale), but with the 3rd note raised a step.
