I would like to know why Fame was put in this list as it came out in 1980 and you clearly stated that list is for movies from 1985. That spot could of been for another movie. Really now guys.

I think you should have been clearer in your definition of musicals. Jersey Boys does not use the song lyrics to help tell the story i.e. substitute dialogue with songs. If you are going to include it, then you should have also included A Star is Born, Rocketman, and Bohemian Rhapsody. Just to name a few. As an avid musical watcher, I am seriously disappointed/disgusted with this list.

@@unicornpotato0751 movie was before Jordan existed in 1993. Honestly it had an underground following of us and some are still split on the stage production. I myself don’t like the changes made on the stage. Jack isn’t an artist, he legit loves the Penny novels about the west, and would never be mean to Crutchy about it. Also Our man Denton was replaced with whatever the Mary Sue reporter is, and David’s sister, Sarah who is Jack’s love interest. She’s underdeveloped in the movie, and I hate rather than develop her for the stage they just got rid of her altogether. It felt at the time like a movie I’d been so attached to most of my life had been butchered and pushed aside. I still have trouble with the changes :/

greatest Showman is BY FAR the best modern musical and ought to be number one hands down. I realise its only an opinion but seriously, Hugh Jackman, Zac Effron and all the rest of the cast are extremely mind blowing. The songs are all sublime and i cannot get enough of it. Have i mentioned the brilliant story yet? No, i have not which is fabulous. Hence me saying, in my opinion at least, it really ought to be first, no question.

Love that Zac Efron appears in at least 3 of these nominees. He may not be seen as a true musical leading man but he does such a great job in all the shows mentioned here. And a huge shout out to Pasek and Paul for two appearances here!!

I am so very surprised honestly that nothing from Burlesque was on here. The movie may have not been all that good but you can’t deny “Express” and “Show Me How You Burlesque” are super catchy

I totally agree! And I think that would have been more fitting for this list than something like "Dancing Queen" which was written as a pop radio hit before being co-opted decades later for a musical. I'm not trying to throw shade at Mamma Mia! but I'd have preferred a full list of songs written for the musical it was in. In fact, I'm a little cranky about how much of this list focused on Broadway musicals done as movies rather than actual movie musicals.

I know! I woke up this morning singing "HE HAD IT COMING!" It's so catchy. Just like how you can't stop the beat is NOT the catchiest song from hairspray.

With Hairspray, I would have said 'Run and Tell That'-purely for Seaweed's voice! His voice is AWESOME-I'd go as far as saying the best in the whole film!

THE PUMPKIN SONG YES!!!!!!! That song has been in my head for 25 years straight. Bless Roger and Hammerstein, and Disney, for their incredible casting and the musicality of the film in general.

This list was SO GOOD!! One of my favorite WatchMojo lists EVER! There are definitely a couple songs I would switch out, but overall, I loved it!!

"High School Musical" has a star from the movie musical, "A Chorus Line". Alyson Reed who played Ms. Darbus was the female lead, Cassie. It's plain when you see her at marker 7:40.

Look up Drew Seeley on IMDB. He did the singing for Troy in the first movie. Zac did his own singing in the sequels, but not the first one.

Including The Muppets here was a big surprise! I thought it was an amazing song and also one of the best, most nostalgic movies from that year or any other for that matter.

I know that the recorded HAMILTON may not count as a movie per see, but the one song that comes to my mind at the strangest times is YOU'LL BE BACK- the King's first song. I don't know why it runs through my head as it does, but it's almost a daily occurrence!

‘Let it go’ just hits different. It’s absolute brilliant 😄 ‘Another Day of Sun’ a close second for me. The greatest opening scene of a musical film ever.

Call me basic Call it overrated But the Greatest Showman is Tops. It deserves the number one spot.

Watching this countdown has made me want to watch all the musicals on the list.

At least once a week, "Elephant Love Medley" pops unbidden into my thoughts and I eventually break out singing. At that moment, if I'm going through a period of low-grade depression, my feelings are instantly lifted.

Sing Street is criminally underrated and underappreciated imo. It's such a fun movie with great music and almost no one has heard about it when I bring it up. I'm glad Drive It Like You Stole It made it onto this list.

Thank you so much for showing the Newsies movie on here! I'm glad the Broadway version is successful, but it broke my heart a little (okay, maybe a lot) when they changed the lyrics I'd had memorized for years, and it hurts me how little-known the movie STILL is, even with how popular the theater version is. (I mean, Ann Margret is in it! ANN! MARGRET!)

Christian Bale, David Moscow from Big, Max Casella! So many great actors just forgotten. And yes the lyrics change and all the changes to Jack made me SO MAD.

I’m so happy something from Sing Street is in this list. It’s so underrated with such an amazing music! Great choice. And thank you for adding “Impossible” from Cinderella in it too! Such a great soundtrack and song!

HSM being on this list was NOT what I was expecting, but I am LIVING for it!! 😍❤️❤️❤️

Mom used Rent to expose 10 year old me to drugs, AIDS and everything. I fell in love with the music before I even knew what half of the words meant, so 10-year-old me didn't know why I was getting weird looks from people when I'd swing on the swings at the park singing La Vie Boheme lol

I personally would of put “I’ll be your dentist” from Little Shop Of Horrors but great list nonetheless. Also maybe Come Alive or The Other Side from The Greatest Showman since this is a “most catchy” songs list.

I cast a vote for "Falling Slowly" from ONCE (2007). The Oscar-winning Song is not as high energy as those on this list, but it gets into your head when you hear it. It can replace #14, FAME (1980), which many have pointed out does not even belong here.

I wouldn't think of TGS as underrated tho, at least not were I'm from, when it came out in 2016 everyone listened to the soundtrack, and the songs are pretty recognizable

If it counts as a musical, "That Thing You Do" from the same titled movie is catchy as hell.

I would say it is a musical and I totally agree. As soon as the soundtrack came out I couldn't listen to that CD more if I tried. I would even listen to it on my CD walk-man whenever I would go anywhere. LOL.

That one's what I call "musical mental peanut butter": Sticks to the roof of your mind. And I would absolutely call it a movie musical, even if it lacks some of the tropes and trappings.

How was there no mention of "In The Heights", "96,000", "My Shot", "Blackout", or even "What Did I Miss?" Those songs have been in my head for months (I'm not even over exaggerating).

Your video was like a summary of my music library. Thanks for creating it. I saw a few musicals I'll have to check out on DVD and maybe get their soundtracks, too.

Idk the songs that randomly come into my head years after seeing the movies at work is "status quo" for HSM and "both reached for the gun" for Chicago. Also I'm shocked no les mis is on here between "red and black" or "do you hear the people sing"

You just had to get "Impossible" stuck in my head again! I absolutely love Whitney as the Fairy Godmother!!

Glad to see Chicago is on the list! So many good songs. Personally, though, I couldn't get "A Little Priest" from Sweeney Todd out of my head for weeks.

Honestly, it doesn't hold a candle to the stage version of the song. Carter and Todd are just so... *Boring* in that number. But Pretty Women? Rickman and Depp's version has to be my favorite out of any I've ever heard. Definitely the best song on that version of the soundtrack.

@@etcetera1995 Little Priest was meant to be a passive tune. I liked the movie version of it and it always makes me smile a bit. Because so many wicked people in the world. Being sung by wicked people. The sense of humor to me got through with the acting. They weren't the best singers in the movie but they held their own. I have heard much weaker singers get praise.

How you could've left out This is Me from the Greatest Showman is beyond words.

@Austin P. Gaming Look who's talking. It's *you* that's got no good taste of movies at all. And more thing, I never said 2012's Les Mis is a masterpiece and rather, it was a decent film even if it had flaws. Also, it ain't garbage. The Greatest Showman is the *one* that is absolute garbage, full of forced, contrived and hollow sjw and virtue-signaling leftist garbage. Like, that movie was a disgrace.

As soon as Moulin Rouge popped up, the whole soundtrack started playing in my mind. XD

The only issue I really had is that in the introduction it was said songs from 198-present (at the time of the making) but included "Fame" which was from the movie of the same name which came out in 1980 which should have made it outside the criteria for this list by 5 years.

I'd have expected a list of songs that were not from stage shows or Top 40 first.

This list is great, but I have to say That Thing You Do is such an oversight - such a good song and so catchy!

Show me how you burlesque from Burlesque really should have been on the list

Finally some love for Sing Street!!! It is seriously underappreciated

When I saw those 2D animated animals in Mary Poppins Returns, I was hoping that it would be a sign that 2D animation would one day come back into Disney.

Cell Block Tango will always be my number one.
