I was born an raised in Tyler. Caldwell Zooused to be free and Bergfield Park did an amateur music show every Friday night. I spent many, many hours at Tyler Statte Park and it was free, too. I lived in Noonday before they were known for the Noonday Onions. We grew onions, but called them 10/20's. There were no wineries or breweries. My father did make home brew!! I went to the Liberty many times, too.
The best thing to do in Tyler is sit at the 7 eleven on Broadway and the loop and count how many people they let run red lights, and who they are specifically. You'll notice a trend.
Caldwell Zoo doesn't have hippos, but the Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin does. Its a little bit of a drive, but worth it. Especially if you go to Ray's Drive-In while you're in Lufkin. Great burgers.
