Top 15 OLDEST Trees Still Living

Ойын-сауық

The battle for the title of ‘the oldest tree still living’ is an on-going battle. But the battle is not as simple as it seems. Some trees of non-clonal, and some are clonal, so the battle is a ‘clone war’ of sorts. Clonal trees are genetically identical trees that share one root system, so their can be lots of clonal trees of different ages. Non-clonal trees don’t do that - they don’t practice cloning. And when it comes to the oldest tree still living, there is a distinction between clonal and non-clonal trees. So, in short, there isn’t just ‘one title’ for the world’s oldest tree that’s still living. There are several based on the type of tree. Today, we’re going to take a look at them all, from the most ancient non-clonal, to the oldest clonal. Here are the Top 15 Oldest Trees Still Living.

Another tree that should be on this list is the Huon Pine from Tasmania. It is not a real Pine, but from an ancient group that once grew in Antarctica when Dinosaurs roamed there. The Huon Pine does not even mature and produces seeds until it is 1400 - 1600 years old. A trunk that was buried underground is the oldest found at 3800 years old. Huon Pines are protected, but the old stumps and submerged logs found in rivers are still milled today.

'Te Matua Ngahere' - Father of the Forest, is considered the second largest living Kauri tree in New Zealand although it achieves greater points that Tane Mahuta. It is also considered to be the oldest out of the two largest living Kauri trees and is estimated to exceed 2000 years old. The tree was discovered by Nicholas Yakas in 1928 when he and other men were working to build the road that is now known as State Highway 12.

I was just about to leave a comment about our Kauri trees (everyone always forgets about New Zealand 🙄). Unbelievable that neither are on any list of oldest trees, although maybe that's because we don't actually know how old they are, some estimates say Tane Mahuta is under 2500, others say its over 3200.

Central Florida (used) to have an estimated 3,500 year old Bald Cypress tree named, 'The Senator'. It was the biggest and oldest bald cypress tree in the world at the time of it's fiery demise. It was located in Big Tree Park, Longwood, Florida. On February 28, 2012, the Florida Division of Forestry said they arrested a 26-year-old woman on suspicion of starting the Senator fire. The suspect stated that she regularly went to the tree site when the park was closed. On the night of January 16, 2012, she lit a fire with debris so that she could see the crystal meth that she was trying to smoke, but the fire got out of control. It boggles the mind how stupid and un-thinking some people can be. I used to frequent the park in my youth and stare up at the Senator in wonder, thinking of how many human life times it had seen. All that history just gone. My heart sank when I heard to news.

A truly impressive video production. Another "ancient" tree you might consider is the Bennett Juniper. It is located in the Stanislaus forest in East-central California. It is south of Hwy. 108 near the town of Dardanelle. The tree is 70-80 feet tall with a trunk 9 feet in diameter at ground level. A core sample taken about 40 years ago estimates it's age over 6000 years old. You can drive to it, but it is NOT easy, multiple forest roads are the only way in........

I almost fell off my damn couch listening to the description and make-up of Tree #2 called "Pando". The tree is made up of many hundreds of tree trunks (or shoots) that grow upwards from the root system *AND* (wait for it) is considered the largest known 'ORGASM'⁉️⁉️ in the world. 🧠😘💥😂🤪🔥💦 That's what happens when you rely on computer-read scripts.
