    The person that made this video is obviously not in the farming branch. For example the Lexion 780 is not their "newest range of combine harvesters", they don't even produce it anymore. You don't only use a sprayer to spread fertilizer either. It is more common using it for herbicide, to protect the crop and kill weeds.

I can understand the reasoning behind down-rating it to prevent damage, but it's a shame that such a powerful machine isn't being used to its full potential. Time is money, however buying two medium units instead of one large unit is actually what most farmers do, not only can two medium units operate at the same rate as one large unit, but if one unit stops working you still have another to continue the job, where as if you rely on one large unit then the entire operation will stop until it's fixed. In addition, larger units are harder to sell when you want to upgrade, because only a small amount of farmers have farms large enough to even validate having a large unit. Overall, the excessively large units are not practical.

  • @cncpreferred848

    @cncpreferred848

    Some tractors shown are $200,000 range and the big combine is in the $1 Million range. Cost per acre and per ton, they are cheaper to use than a dozen smaller tractors and combines. More Horsepower (in the 500 to 600 HP range) equates to less cost per acre and per ton, plus it is a time saver. For large farms, some in the 20,000 to 35,000 acre size, it costs too much to try to use half a dozen or more smaller machines. 45 years ago when most farmers mentality was to buy the smallest tractor to save on fuel, I proved that 5 times the HP would save on fuel and time, being cheaper to operate per acre and per ton. I have 85 to 100 HP (guessing conservatively for a 1978 Chevy pickup engine) [not sure the actual HP - was 140 HP new - but it is plenty] on my mini tractor (250 CID/4 L) with pickup truck sized Ag cleat drive tires. I was considering a 250 HP or more 350 CID/5.7 L V-8 engine, but it was too wide to fit. Even at the 80 to 100 HP, it uses less fuel than the 20 to 40 HP tractors to the same job and gets the job done in much less time.

    Dammann would be cooler if pronounced "dam mann!" Can't see a Big Bud and not think of the Welker family.
