Steve hackett is criminally underrated, he's got an amazing sense of melody and his approach to guitar playing in general is really unique, despite his departure from the band, he's been keeping Genesis's prog spirit alive with his multiple solo projects, but I guess that these lists are just based off of fame, and not the musicians's songwriting skills. I don't approve of any of those lists who only rely on quantity over quality, but I really don't care about electric guitar either, i just really like steve hackett as a person and as a songwriter.

Finally! Tom Scholz on a Top Guitarist List! So underrated for Boston!
Beautiful video. I'll get some ideas for one of my videos! 😉
Keith Richards is my favourite guitarist. He gets a bad rep these days because kids think that guitar playing is all about soloing and shredding. Keith was never a technical guy like Eddie, Page or Hendrix. Clapton, who played with him in the Dirty Mac, was objectively a better player than him. However, I don't think there has been any other riff maker as iconic as Richards. He created some of the most iconic riffs and tunes and he did that all with really simple chords and techniques. You can easily forget solos and shreds but a damn good riff never leaves your mind. Ik his playing has gotten weaker over the year but that's not even an argument, the dude's 80 years old. Also, Mick Taylor was fking amazing too. Very underrated. He would have even surpassed Richards' career if he had done something more significant after 1974

Tony Iommi has written more and better riffs and the same can arguably be said for Jimmy Page, I love Keef though

Fame and influence, skill is debatable on most of those lists, cuz people really don't care about how skilled you are as a musician, they only care about how much you can sell. The truth of the matter is that people who really care about treating music as art that requires skill, care, and overall passion, is really the minority in this one big shit show, while it's way easier to sell quick hits for cheap and making sure that as many people will follow you. Quantity over quality, simple as that. I don't approve of this behaviour, neither do i condone it, but after years of promoting underrated artists to my peers, i just realized that people don't care and will never care, that sucks...
Pat Metheny Steve Hackett- Genesis Steve Hillage- Gong Alan Holdsworth John Fogerty - CC Revival Robin Trower Danny Diaz - Steely Dan Bill Nelson - Be bob deluxe Martin Barre - Jethro tull John Petrucci -Dream theater Andew Latimer- Camel Jan Akkerman- Focus John Mclaughlin Paco de Lucia Andres Segovia

It would be better to narrow it even more by just allowing guitarists who dedicated to the guitar. Kurt Cobain was too busy being a songwriter and a front man to care about the guitar

John petrucci is miles better than all of them
Honestly Mick Taylor is a way better guitarist than Keith Richards is and it isn’t even remotely close
Alex Liferson ❤
Jimmy Hendrix, Santana, Joe satriani Jimmy Page Stevie rai vaughn
Good list overall, although the order of the top 20, which for sure all belong there, can be debated. Also imho Satriani for example deserves to be at least in the upper half before some other names, especially the few that I actually had to look up, and I've been listening to most of these guys for 4+ decades.
So glad you respected both of megadeth guitarists(i disagree they re below kirk tho)
Jimi Hendrix of course 🥰
Your list is a lot better than the rolling stones list.... And it pretty much had all of my favourite guitar gods on that list too... I'm happy😄💙
Where's Lil Wayne

Good list. I would make some minor changes, but for the most part. This is a well thought out list.
Some great ones on this list. Yet no Holdsworth, Hackett, McLaughlin, Akkerman, Metheny, Coryell, Morse, Martino, Trower, Marino, Johnson, Gambale, Carlton, Bloomfield, Buchanan, Abercrombie, Nugent, Bolin, Hillage, Kossoff, Scofield, Stern, Breau, De Lucía, Gilbert, Trucks, Felder, Govan, Petrucci, Herring, Halsall, Szabo, Gatton, Burrell, Lane, Montgomery, Pass, Caldwell, Henderson, Ford, Rypdal, Turner and Powell, Simmonds, Cipollina, Barre, Tolonen, Rypdal, Latimer, Frisell, Belew, Oldfield, Schon. Need to make a second part, definitely.
