My therapist told me I should practice gratitude. I'm grateful The Dice Tower exists. I only watch the Top 10s but I love these guys. The shows are fun and they brighten my days

For a moment of sour reality - just read an article that Serge Laget, designer of Nidavellir (amongst other cool games) died few days ago… :( may he live on via his designs!

That was such a fun moment.
Tom, your changing allegiances of which country is best totally reminds me of 1984. "Norway is now the best country. It has ALWAYS been the best country"
EL Dorado, is one of my all-time favorite games. I love that the map is different with each game.
To play a game with Tom and zee @ the same time . My face would kill me from all the smiling
I'm so happy to see Glen More II: Chronicles make someone's list and for it to rank this high! 🥃

it was 86 on Tom's list last year... I imagine it's one of the 18 games he mentioned that were pushed out, but he always ranked it highly.
When I got into gaming 2015 Tom, Zee and co couldnt stop talking about King of Tokyo, Power Grid etc and now they are ”remembered”. So weird hearing them talked about as good but not really being played anymore. I guess the several thousands of games that has come out since has something to do with it. 😅
For the Power Grid thing where you have to ignore part of the map what I do is take one of the color pieces thats not in play and place them in all the cities on the edge of that border so it's easy to see where the cutoff of available cities is.
The Crew & The Bloody Inn are my favorites that were mentioned this time around.
Zee is the boss here! The way he managed to go on with his poker face when Mike was talking about Skate Summer will definitely be one of the highlights of this year's list for sure.

Much love for Dice Tower here in Iowa!! You guys are my favorite place in Florida.
Keep on rolling…. good job!
I love, love, LOVE that Tom thinks Federation is such a good game!! It’s my new #1 as of 2023! Well done as usual, Mr. Vasel.
11:45 nice to see Pulsar 2849 on here. I played this for the first time last week and enjoyed it a lot
Bologna is a beautiful city in Italy that I lived in for years. Thank you for the great content. I almost watch this more for the jokes and silliness than the games.
There are so many great games that have come out in the history of board gaming, I don't have time to play them all. Because of that I limit myself to the themes that interest me the most.
36:07 I own Vabanque after learning about it in this channel, and I can safely say it's a great game for work colleagues. Because that game, along with 'Felix the cat in the sack' which I also have, allow work colleagues the feeling of 'Friendly Poker' without stressing about the contradiction of the 'friendly poker' concept, where you have to have money involved for poker to be fun, but then it cannot be friendly. Vabanque is amazing for this purpose.
Pure love for Sentient. Renegade have put out some previously great games. Clank, sentient, worlds fair 1893…
I'd say that leaving out a part of the map in "Power Grid" is also for variation between games. Even with 6 players you don't use the complete map.

Yeah. I was thinking that too. It’s a feature!
Bloody Inn is fantastic. Just be careful; it gives engine building vibes, but if you approach it like a typical engine builder you’ll have a rough time. I had to get over that before I saw it’s charm.
@Indubitably14

That's what I love about it. Instead of that solitaire, points salad feel you get from most engine builders, there's a lot of player interaction in Bloody Inn.
Played: 3 from Mike and Zee 4 from Tom ALL 10 from the people. And we like ALL 10. Good job people.
I played original PowerGrid twice this year. Fantastic game.
I missed the live stream again, but here's my following-along-at-home, same 60-51 portion of my top 100: 60. Tapestry 59. Memoir '44 58. Century: Golem Edition 57. Hive 56. Tiny Epic Pirates 55. Small World 54. Champions of Midgard 53. Root 52. Racoon Tycoon 51. HATE
I think I'm finally warming up to the new set. I thought it was super odd without the game table in front. At least we know these guys wear pants now...
My 60-51: 51 Yokohama 52 Santorini 53 SHŌBU 54 Railroad Ink: Blazing Red Edition 55 Pax Pamir: Second Edition 56 Great Western Trail 57 Concordia Venus 58 Long Shot: The Dice Game 59 The Quacks of Quedlinburg 60 Tyrants of the Underdark
Great pokerface Zee 😁 at #56
Love Mike Championing Cthulhu Wars. So Good.
For Istanbul, there are some good (and reasonably obvious) setup 'rules' that help avoid overly easy routes.
I really love Tidal Blades ans Last Aurora, I didn't tough I'll see them in this top ... Really Happy :)
Funkenschlag- as I call it - is a fantastic game and provides so much fun and tension. It is an all time hit with my family.
Love seeing Champions of Midgaard on the list. Still in my top 100

Such a fun game!
Played Power Grid about 5 times this year. We did a competition on Steam's TableTop and a friend owns it so we played it in person. I like it. Not my favorite, but it's good.
19 of these 40 played. A few more I own but haven't gotten to the table yet.
Zees definitions were great. Would love to play balderdash with him lol
They need a new theme song for Mike.
If your a fan of deck building what is your opinion of Star Realms/ Hero Realms?
“Ay dios mio maybe it’s the same game ese” was cracking up so hard and then IT WAS THE SAME GAME!!! Hilariouuss funniest moment of 2023 so far
Playing Sleeping Gods at the moment and really enjoying it. Haven't found combat to be too much of a problem, but not sure how much the complete sandbox style is for me. Can see it's perks but think in general I prefer a bit more steer.
Bruges is so good. Happy to still see it after all those years.

Nice… Rat Race reference… you have my respect, sir.
To be fair, we heard "Splendor killer every year" mostly on Dice Tower. It's a good game that has a very good range of different players and is quick to play. I can play it at work during a break while having a chat. I can play it with family very casually, where people get tons of cards and feel great about having huge displays. I can play it with hardcore gamers where everybody watches big cards like a hawk, because the game can end very fast if somebody is left unattended. All that in a small and very attractive package. You don't like the game. Great. But I think it's time to admit that "Splendor killer" all the time was just wrong.
@KissellMissile

I have heard "splendor killer" from all corners of board game commentary and very little from the DT.
I don't know bologna in chili might work. I recently found out it could be smoked which is very good.
I love Notre Dame , good choice Zee
Number 56. Incredible! What are the odds?
Love me some Power Grid! I'll never say no to playing that game... Unless it's a choice between Power Grid and Dwellings of Eldervale, then I'm choosing Dwellings ;)
Rewatching this months later, and I really want to watch a Game and Talk of Mike playing Masmorra solo and talking about himself. 😂
Orichalcum is fantastic!
Bring back the A-team!!! Best theme song and intro!!
I've recognised Chris' and Wendy's game table in a couple of places here 😁
Isn't Vladimír Suchý's last name pronounced "SOO-key"? I was corrected on that a while back. Anyhow, here are the ones I've played: and their ranks: Underwater Cities (3) Splendor (163) Glen More II: Chronicles (120) The Quest for El Dorado (257) Power Grid (45) Castles of Mad King Ludwig (154) Beyond the Sun (4) Champions of Midgard (253) Tokaido (?) Onitama (156) The Crew: The Quest for Planet Nine (159) Notre Dame (31) Port Royal (20) Lots of highly ranked games for me!
The problem with powergrid is the only strategy is to go as fast as possible as early as possible.
Baked Potato as a diet food? Haven't heard of that one before. And it's never diet the way I do baked potato .... everything please ... butter, sour cream, bacon bits, chives, salt and pepper.

Chris Yi answered this in one of the videos last year. I don't remember 100% but I think it was "Mike Dilisio, bravissimo, sporadically bored, but never pianissimo."
2:39 Have you heard, the parent company who owns Bally’s is going into bankruptcy? Not sure if the hotel/name ties to the sport’s broadcasting arm of the company but 14 MLB teams have contracts with them. Big news heading into this season.
What the heck are those lyrics in Mikes song
1:14:10 Hearts actually had two gimmicks: the Queen of Spades is worth as much as all the hearts combined and if you get all the points in a round you somehow shoot the moon to smithereens and the ensuing meteor shower hits all your opponents but not you.
Believe it or not Istanbul is really good on Xbox as well.
Zee does modeling? Zee, can we see your "Blue Steel" sometime? 😂
Would love to see a play of bloody inn during the marathon
Hi Angela!
Wow, 40:40 is so crazy, ha
I'm totally with Zee on Nidavellir - it was fine, totally not as interesting as Tom had made it out to be, for me. The coin upgrade aspect was cool, but not as compelling as I was expecting from how Tom reacted to it.
Go Iowa!
Has Mike played Glorantha?
Back once again handing out points (they matter so so much) to the host(s) and people if they have a game I pick to be the best one for each entry. Mike: 2 points (12 total), 53, 52, El Dorado, Tokaido Zee: 1 point (12 total), 54, Bruges (Hamburg?) Tom: 3 points (12 total), 60-58, Pulsar 2849, Sleeping Gods, Federation People: 4 points (14 total), 57-55, 53, 51, Powergrid, Beyond the Sun, Sleeping Gods, El Dorado, Marvel United 2, times the People have scored 5 points in a round (70-61) 1, time the People have scored a hat trick 57, 56, 55 2, games which joined as repeat winners Sleeping Gods 58, 55, & El Dorado 53 & 53 1 & 2, times a game repeated and it occurred in the same video segment Sleeping Gods 58, 55, & El Dorado 53 & 53 Mike: 1 potential point pillaged (2 total), 54, The Bloody Inn (Bruges - Hamburg? Won) Zee: 1 potential point pillaged (3 total), 57, El Dorado (Power Grid won) Tom: 2 potential points pillaged (3 total), 56, 54, Castles of Mad King Ludwig (Beyond the Sun won), Return to Dark Tower (Bruges - Hamburg? Won) People: 0 potential point pillaged (2 total) Bye!
Aspects of the artwork and gameplay of Formula E strike me as overtly Orientalist.

"No ones gonna have the audacity to make a game that's just mechanisms" Tom's never played a splotter game?

Tikal 👍
Honestly, somebody should sue Queen Games for causing that much trouble and inconvenience by renaming the city games. :/
Yes, I have been waiting 4 days and somewhat over a year to find out the 52nd best game of all time! 1 is an overrated number.
Marvel United isn't a bad game. It certainly has its merits. The more of it you own the better it gets. However, it is not one of the top 25 games of All-time. I"M LOOKING AT YOU ZEE GARCIA!!
Zee has a side hussle?
I disagree that Sentient's theme doesn't fit. Programing is a logic puzzle, and that's exactly what you're doing. I think the game would have done a lot better if they didn't do overpriced components. The MSRP was very high for what the game was.
So much deckbuilder hate lol Dominion is amazing.
Blasphemy! The true prestigious game design duo is Rob Daviau and Craig Van Ness!
@Indubitably14

Rob Daviau is just a great collaborator in general. He's done so many successful co-designs
Some people play Power Grid with calculators :D
In view of recent Kickstarters, I think we can stop calling Cthulhu Wars expensive. It’s a relative bargain at this point. I get people who back a $400 campaign where they’ll never hope to play all the content telling me CW is expensive, and with a straight face no less.
I want a real review of the competitive rules for Return to Dark Tower!
Mike. Stop apologising. They'll think you're a Canadian.
1:18:00 not only is Trajan not my favorite Stefan feld game, it's not even my favorite Stefan feld game with trajan in the name.

I would really like to try The Bloody Inn... I have been looking for it everywhere. And I agree Cathala is the best designer in the World! The Crew is fine... but I am wondering if other small games like Scout or Sea, Salt and Paper will make it further into the People's Choice (IMHO those are superior to the Crew).
@Mike.... no no no. Tikal is the only not so good one out of the 3. Cuzco is super amazing.. Mexica is stupendous and Tikal is ... uh..

Mike is 100% right, deck building needs something to compliment it. Dominion is incredibly boring to me, feels like nothing but a mechanical exercise.
I owned Formula E until a week or so ago when I sold it. It's just meh, IMO. Mike praising it over the years led me to get it in the first place, and it never really hit with my family.
If anyone knows the channel/source for the defining words a day Tom was talking about, please let me know 🙏 @thedicetower
Tom, speaking of diets, check into the carnivore diet. It’s ridiculously easy and amazing. It’s more a lifestyle than a temporary diet, but it’s easy to maintain, feel great, weight melts off. And you don’t need to eat any vegetables!!
My only quibble with the videos are the pauses for a shoutout to a super chat whatever that is. It doesn’t make sense, becomes repetitive and slows the down the flow of the show.

I agree with both of you. Many content creators call out the super chat people. Some do it in a less intrusive way than others. Interrupting a conversation to call them out is abrupt. Imo, call them out before or after the number break.
@mrjombi

@@bigd5773 To be clear I enjoy the videos, it’s why I subscribe. This is the only part that I dislike. Mike especially seems distracted by the comments screen; he’s constantly looking up at it and squinting. Seems to forget there are people watching him while he’s watching something else. And the “my favorite country!” joke got old after the first three times. We get it. Can’t you let people quietly contribute money and not acknowledge each and every one? It bogs down the entire show and I end up watching a simple Dice Tower game review instead.
