Finally finished watching this epic top 100. Very entertaining! Great job Mike, Zee and Tom. Loved all your lists, especially the people’s. Great gaming taste everyone.

I'm not in line with Tom a lot, but he's not wrong with Ready Set Bet. It wouldn't be my number one, but it brings me out of my heavy-euro shell and is fun every single time you play it. I think it also makes sense that all three of these guys have a "lighter" game as their number one. They play sooooo many games that it must feel like like a breath of fresh air when a less complex game has that 10/10 fun factor with high replayability, lower set-up time, meaningful choices, and a high success rate when teaching it to new players.

They have all 3 also been teachers by profession in the past, which supports your point. And another reason why I value the other hosts perspectives, I would love another A Team Top 100 or Top 10 of all time for that reason

​@@thomgizziz I wholeheartedly disagree. Just because a game is shorter doesn't mean it's better. And there's a degree to which depth and complexity enhance a game and bring more enjoyment to certain players. It can be too much for some. I love both. And think there's enough difference to warrant keeping both. Outside of reducing them to action selection nature games (which is pretty broad categorization... Wingspan would also fall into that genre) they play and feel very differently.

​We actually have both and I don't feel the intensity or adrenaline rush, especially when it gets close to the end of game, as I do with Ark Nova. Earth is still a good game though, if I am in the mood for something more relaxing. Glad you are enjoying Earth!❤

I wouldn't say it's better than the BGG list, it's just different. BGG is weighted somewhat toward games that have been out long enough to get a lot of votes, but also have high average vote score. Whereas the peoples' choice here in Dice Tower are surely biased toward the views of the hosts.

@@libertyprime9307 well I would say it’s a better list for suggesting games to people than bgg. I would much rather start with DT #1 and work my way down than the bgg list. Not to mention the redundancy issues of bgg. Don’t get me wrong I understand how bgg list works and its purpose I just this list is more useful.

Just ordered a used copy after watching this video. Sounds like I will scratch that starship troopers itch!

I had non-boardgame friends invite me to a daytime New Year’s Eve pajama “mimosas and boardgame” party. They asked everyone to bring a game and I brought my new copy of Ready Set Bet, which I had just unwrapped… that is all we played. Of the 8 people, only 1 had played “heavy board games” before (catan 😂), but all of them were obsessed with RSB from the outset. I ran the horses and played the first round without the VIP or prop bets, but after each round they asked for more complexity and by the end of the fourth round we were playing the full game and everyone was sweating, stressed, and having an amazing time. RSB isn’t Ark Nova, Scythe, or Twilight Imperium (obviously), but it is an amazing game that can transition anyone from Monopoly and Battleship to new, somewhat complex board games in about 30 min. Completely agree with Tom, and I’m just glad I got my copy before they sell out nationwide. Thanks dice tower, still the best after over a decade!!

A few Yeats ago now, I played dead of winter with a couple of new people and was told they never played a game like that. They loved it. Modern board games are in the majority a delight ( subject to theme preference and what not)

Still most in line with Mike, but Zee is a close second, and he probably has the most games that I don’t have, but really want to try/buy. 51st state is definitely getting added soon, I hope. Same here. After how much content I’ve played through so seamlessly and get a puzzle-like fun experience it’s become an easy choice

The only one I haven't played from the people's choice top 10 is Spirit Island, and I actually plan on playing it on Sunday! And aside from Viticulture and Scythe, all the others are in my top 100 as well.

Very interesting that most of the top 10 of the people have great solo options. I played 8 of them solo and loved them.

Great list as ever. Always a lil sad when these finish, though they'll be other members top 100. Neat for all the changes - added more games to my want to play 😅

I love Mind MGMT. It shot straight to my no 1 spot. Being able to play it purely cooperative, with the App as Mind MGMT, makes it a good couples game, which increases play time significantly.

Great list, as always! It was fun to see four #1 shake-ups after having been stable for several years. One thing I noticed, though. Did Tom forget about Planet Unknown? I was shocked not to see it on his list, and when it came up for the people at #87, he even mentioned that he was trying to see where he put it on his list. @thedicetower

This was a great top 100. Very entertaining! I think Mike said on the earlier lists, that he currently culls games that are too big boxwise. I have that same issue with dwellings of eldervale to be honest. Great game, but the box is just is too damn big

Really glad you guys put Marvel Champions in your top 10 and I see why. It’s my favorite game and I don’t see that stopping anytime soon.

Mike, I know you got razzed for putting Cthulhu Wars in your top 10 essential games, but what happened to it? It’s not in your top 100? Did I miss it?

Got scared there for a second, thinking that Ready Set Bet is gone out of Tom's list. It's one of my all time favorites as well.

Can someone tell, how people's choice is measured? Was there a poll at Dice Tower website, facebook or BGG, or sold copies from publishers & retailers?

I absolutely love marvel United. I’ve played over 50 games and still love it a lot and haven’t seen half the content.

When I ranked my games with Pub Meeple, my #1 surprised me: Stone Age. But it's really a flawless classic with lots of luck and lots of strategy: it makes for basically a perfect game.

Did you guys play Voidfall? Can't otherwise understand, how would it not end up on top of your lists... It has become favorite game of almost everyone in our group

Did Tom have HeroScape on his list? I don’t recall seeing it and thought it was one of his top games.

Yay, Tom and I now have the same number two board games of all time! Now I just have to wait for his number 41 (I think it was 41) to rise 40 places. I can wait. I'm patient.

Ark Nova is a great game. Even though it’s long I always feel sad when it ends because there’s always so much more I want to do when I play. But the joy me and my wife have showing our zoos off to one another makes up for it and the games are usually pretty close. Marvel United from Zee is also great to see. I have way too much of it and would like to edit down my collection, especially with season 4 delivering this year and the much speculated DC United potentially coming. My heart wants it all but our shelves definitely don’t. Regardless, I love the game and it probably hovers around my top 3 along with Ark Nova. Fun top 100 this year, looking forward to more content from the dice tower crew this coming year!

Where would you guys rank Spellbound by the Lamont Brothers also any thoughts on this game

Story Tiles Top 10 of All Time has shifted a bit this year as well: 10 Sleeping Gods (the original still outshines Distant Skies, mostly cuz it feels more expansive and adventure by boat? Perfection. My favourite open world game.) 9 Okko Chronicles (feudal japanese fantasy horror after the French graphic novel series, stunning table presence, miles ahead of others in this subgenre like Forbidden Fortress) 8 Arkham Horror: TCG (strongest LCG with huge character-event-location synergy with just cards. Thematically atmospheric. Great variety in stories. Huge world to explore) 7 Skull Tales: Full Sail! (best all-around pirate-themed experience in a board game. Adventure campaign and exploration by ship and on foot as a dungeon crawler.) 6 Folklore: the Affliction (still the best RPG-in-a-box feel of playing D&D as a board game. Lovely zoom-in battles and several campaigns to play through) 5 Trudvang Legends (with the Chronicles RPG the most Lord of the Rings feeling you will get. Easy to play, engaging stories. Evocative sculpts. Effortless fun) 4 Middara: Act 1 (the best split dungeon crawler-and-story campaign with personal touches, gorgeous art and graphic design and more is coming...eventually) 3 Tainted Grail (this world is expanding with King of Ruins and the RPG. It is gloriously dark and mythological) 2 Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition (AH:TCG cubed! Atmosphere up the wazoo. Lovecraftian scenarios that will haunt your evenings as doom reveals itself) 1 Tanares Adventures (this Dragonlance-feelling epic campaign blows every other adventure game out of the water. They had a voting poll on their website in December which you could go to and vote for your top 25 or so favourite games.

Ha ha I noticed that too. To be fair, I think that review was of ONLY the base game, which does leave an impression of “…is that it?” a little bit. Once you start plugging and playing and seeing the depth of the system does it really open up.

I so want to upgrade my copy of Ready Set Bet with a better racetrack. I haven’t seen Tom’s but I hear it’s great.

Question - where can I see a little consolidated list of the Top 100? It’s been fun watching all the videos, but I just want a list now . . . For research purposes . . .

They post the lists on their website (although it might take some time). They group the lists by tens (just like the videos, which they link to as well), so you have to click through them a bit.

Watching this in February 2024. I have played Wingspan over 10 times on BGA and do not care much for it. One opponent actually told me you won't win if you don't get lucky. The dice for food, the luck of the draw not only for the birds but also for the bonus cards, and even randomness for the round goals--which ties into luck of the draw--all make this game not that fun for me. Not interested in Ark Nova now; I am learning Gizmos and then want to learn Kingdomino on BGA after recently learning Ancient Knowledge! I do have Viticulture Tuscany Essential Edition!

With your love of running Read Set Bet, I'm shocked you still haven't tried to run Blood on the Clocktower, Tom. It's a very different kind of "running a game" from Ready Set Bet but you definitely have fun viewing people scratching their heads/stressing out/squirming (all in good ways) from the plays of the players AND you as the one running the game

Ra is so great. I never want to win the first auction because I never want the 1 😅

I was thinking about getting Marvel United to play with my family, but I think when it first came out they did a foursquare review and everybody except Tom gave it around a seven. Anyone know the reason it jumped to the top of their lists? Just more content?

The base Avengers game kinda sucked. Fortunately, since then there's been new "Base Boxes" (Or I guess you'd call them stand-alone expansions) that have drastically improved the game. The one even shown on the clip is ACTUALLY X-Men base game. There's also a new Spidergeddon "Base Box" which is probably only recommended if you're a heavier gamer. It's still light on rules, but the characters have a bit too much meat on them for a casual audience. Whereas X-Men base box has a good mix of light and heavy-ish characters.

Wow, Tom has summoner wars still in his top 10. Incredible how it came out about the same time as Mage Wars which has disappeared but Summoner Wars still keeps going strong.

Pro tip, when playing RSB have everyone name the horses by brainstorming or pulling out of a hat. The longer the names the better

I think Ark Nova being available on BGA as well helps. It's been played more than games several years old there, it's the most played currently on BGA, most plays recorded monthly on BGG (granted, some of those are recorded from BGA through the BG Stats app), and it just got a very appreciated expansion.

It's not in my own top 10, but it's accessible, has a good theme, and the gameplay is good even if not outstanding by my criteria. It doesn't surprise me to see it so high.
