actually don't forget that destroying the moon and using the catapult turtle on the fortress that was in season one which acted more like a role play RPG and it didn't follow the actual card game that didn't even exist yet in real life. it's only when we got to the season with battle City did the Yu-Gi-Oh anime start to follow the rules real world card game.

Check on yu gi oh season 0, that shit is whack. Intentionally YGO wasn't about card game but various games in general with dire consequences like madness or death. Card game was implemented only in late episodes of YGO0

Idk, I loved yugioh as a kid, but the whole concept is so corny I probably wouldn't have been able to get into it later in life even if it was uncut.

There’s one moment I found absolute BS. Tea was duelling Crump and summoned Dark Magician from SOMEONE ELSE’S DECK !!!!

For the record, Joey's dream duel was actually Joey's recollection of his first important tournament of his career, which was a local competition. In the Japanese or uncut versions, the reason everybody was watching Rex and Weevil dueling each other on television was because Joey could have been there had he won the local tournament. Instead, he ended up finishing in the top 8 and not even coming close to receiving an invite to said National Competition. This is merely a recollection of Joey's first steps as a pro-duelist, which is how he ended up losing in a cringey way to a child.

Alex Tomlinson But why? That arc was fun to watch but it was a clusterfuck of nonsense that destroyed Mai’s character and also made Yuugi lose a duel when he never lost in the manga. Also introduced a parallel world where duel monsters live, like what? I think one of the best things from that arc was the BGM track Fang of Critias and they didn’t even keep the music for the English version so it was just plain bad in English.

i wonder if it was intentional or not that in the manga and season 0 material the "Yami Games" seemed to reflect the trial of Osiris. long story short when a person dies they are brought before Osiris god of the underworld to be tested. their heart is put on a special scale on one side and a feather that represents Truth is put on the other. if the heart is lighter then the feather then the deceased soul is free to continue their journey in the underworld to rest. if the heart is heavier the heart is dropped and devoured and the soul is erased from existence a fate worse then death. both the yami game and test of osiris are meant to judge the characters of those that are tested. and if we take the anime into account the spirit with yugi Atem was a pharaoh and pharaohs were seen as human avatars of osiris so the connection then deepens.

@@MrOmegatronic Yeah, even season 0 anime is heavily toned down. A lot of people treat season 0 as this big dark and serious anime but in actuality it’s a really bad adaptation that not only changes a lot of characters and plot points, but also removes a lot of the darker games like that time Jonouchi was handcuffed to a serial killer with a chainsaw and trapped in a room until one of them dies. I still can’t get over how they kinda ruined Jonouchi’s arc when he is forced to rejoin his old gang.

Yu-gi-oh vrains got me there like wtf did I just hear😂😂😂

gx had so many wtf moments: the dueling monkey, the guy who had an awful draw and decided to head into the jungle and become this tarzan draw guru. The Mokey Mokey guy who basically got everyone high, Tania going to find a husband among a bunch of underage children, actual vampires like Camula existing, Dark Magician Girl apparently manifesting herself out of the blue just for the lols and a duel. Half of the school first getting brainwashed by Saio into joining the Society of Light and then becoming duel zombies by Yubel. Kaiser getting shocked by those collars and then taking a liking for it and forcing Sho to duel with them. The Yellow dorm leader being this curry vigilante, Jim literally carrying a live crocodile on his back, I could go on for a while

There actually is a decent explanation for Joey's dream duels in the Japanese version. Back in episode 2 of the series, Joey entered into a tournament that isn't mentioned in the English dub, where Joey didn't get super far as this was before he was very good. The dreams Joey has are of his games in that tournament.

What about two weird duels from Zexal? One in an Soccer Match and another one where you duel while going on a rollercoaster ride around Heartland City?

DPowered Smith Try watching it it’s great (subbed Yugioh Dubs are awful, trust me I prefer Dubbed anime). The show starts slow but give it time it does many great things. Yuma starting out bad and actually learning as he goes is great to see. Much better than Yami taking over Yugi most of the time and have him do little throughout the show. Kaito is the best rival in Yugioh trust me once he gets introduced the show starts picking up. Trust me the people who says it’s bad just don’t like things to be done differently. Actually give it a chance and you may like it.

He follows the rules 95% of the time though, because when the Duel Monsters anime and manga was in circulation there were no hard rules. The cards didn’t exist yet in real life for people to say “you can’t do that” to the anime. The only potential time I can think of that Yuugi broke the rules was the ceremonial duel when Atem was just magically willing cards into his hand with pharaoh powers, and even then that was an anime only line that said he was doing it. Yuugi never cheated.

I agree, Don Thousand and Vector's Moments are the closest WTF Moments from Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal ESPECIALLY Vector's Torturous Attitude as such during his Battle Royale Duel against Marin and Dumon and the moment he willingly sided against Girag and Yuma secretly learned part of his true identity, at least they should be in honorable mentions if not on the actual list but eh its their poll their decisions.

Shounen literally translates to “young man.” Shounen demographic is young men or teenage boys and slightly younger boys as well. It’s the same demographic that is used for Pokemon and Yuyu Hakusho for instance. Sorry to be that guy. I know what you’re trying to get at regardless since I’ve seen all of Yugioh in Japanese and read the manga. It’s just that what is considered for kids in America is vastly different than what is considered for kids in Japan.

Z-One's backstory is one of the main reasons he is one of my favorite villains. He isn't actually Yusei, but it is supposed to make us question whether Yusei could end up the way he did if he really was him.

Finally found a video involving the Duelist Kingdom battle that doesn't totally put Kaiba in the wrong, and how much both he and Yugi were struggling in that fight.

Yep there all definitely WTF moments for sure. I honestly can't decide which one it is more

Yeah i was playing the card game when the show was airing and i would play the game just like the show it wasnt until i turned 7 i learned the actual rules from a pc yugioh game i used too play where i would fight Kaiba as yugi over and over again winning new cards and upgrading my deck

I remember Yuya vs. Pierre. My thought was if I had to do an action duel on that quiz field I consider actually KO'ing the person who came up with that field as I came for a duel not a trivia game.

6:00 a similar episode happened in GX season 2, I think it was a fun concept.

The entire final story arc of Arc-V should have been #1. That Reiji/Declan laugh was absolutely bizarre.

The moon thing. Possible Theory: Giant Stone soldier may have been an effect monster with the effect of destroying one spell card on the field, once per turn. But as the series progressed, they turned it into a normal monster card and it's effect into a spell card.

My friend Audra absolutely HATES the moon thing. She’s a physics fan so she gets furious EVERY time it’s brought up

It kind of is. The concept behind “heart of the cards” is that “every card has a heart.” This was used when in the manga Grandpa’s Blue Eyes committed suicide when Kaiba tried to duel with it because the cards had been brought to life and Grandpa’s blue eyes would rather die than be used as a stolen card and fight his owner’s grandson. The card showed that it had a heart- every card has a heart. This concept was then completely bastardized by 4kids into being this dumb Star Wars “May the force be with you” type of thing. It was never mentioned post duelist kingdom but for some reason the bastardized usage never went away in the dub. Even in the Dark Side of Dimensions movie they referenced it in the English version. I wish they’d stop.

Honestly the most wtf thing for me comes from Zexal, specifically the duel between Kaito/V (probably the smartest two characters in Zexal) and that mosquito guy. The mosquito guy infects Kaito with a hallucinogenic before the duel begins. Kaito beats it by using his duelist spirit (I can’t remember exactly what they call it) and both Kaito and V treat this as a perfectly legitimate solution. Coming from Yuma’s mouth I would totally believe he would think this was a thing but again Kaito and V are supposed to be two of the smartest people in Zexal. They have literally just built a portal to an alien world using science but think hallucinations can be cured completely through willpower.

I loved the duel between Jaden and Wheeler!!!

#1 was actually the VERY FIRST episode I ever seen. My brother introduced me to the show, then we got in the game.

I miss VRAINS. Maybe there will be an OVA for VRAINS.

Yu gi oh season 1 was high energy

So convenient that yall are doing a Yugioh video as I recently started watching the 1st generation of Yugioh all over again 😅

About the moon move, so yes the first season the anime didn't put the rules very well, but on the duelist kingdom rules, they can use the field for their advantage. So believe or not, the moon become part of the field, just like the flames burned the forest against wivor. That's my best explaination 😁

I just realized that Wheeler the monkey is a reference to the eng dub of the original anime in a episode called “Dueling Monkey”

You know, a few games/shows got something against the solar system. Yugi destroys the moon, in Sonic Adventure 2 (and Sonic X), Eggman destroys half of the moon, in Mario Galaxy, the Lumas destroyed the entire galaxy (temporarily) and in Sonic Forces, the sun disappears. Like they really got something against outer space 😂

What about that scene in the original Yu-Gi-Oh where Yugi used Mystical Elf to "chant a spell" to increase the ATK points of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon that he had under his control? Or that bit in the Yu-Gi-Oh GX English dub where the girls were wearing long dresses in the bathhouse, only to end up wearing towels one moment later (in the original Japanese, they were naturally naked in the bath prior to the towels)? Or Yusei's "amnesia" subplot in the Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds English dub during the episode where he first met the twins (no amnesia in the original Japanese)?

Very first time I saw pharaoh (forget the name, really should get back into yu gi oh) mind crush kaibah was definitely a WTF moment for me!
