All of these movies also have one thing common, they were the hyped pot boiler that were safe bets for their producer. They felt like a film from the POV of the producer rather than the makers.

I disagree with your opinion on Malaikottai Vaaliban as although it does seems to drag on... The shots captured as well as cinematography is nothing but a marvel. Is it a great film? No. But, is it a fine film with legitimate effort in bringing finesse and a genuine attempt in bringing Indian Folklore to the big screen? Absolutely.

Man some movies feel like director's are still living in pre COVID era in case of mass cinema. This is why mass movie (on 2018-19 template) becoming blockbuster may take India cinema a step back. We need more of Kalki, kill Hanuman , Madgaon express type movies not just for the sake of money but for creativity in Indian cinema. And man the hate against kalki on twitter 😫

Bmcm had everything, a 350cr budget, a director with a great previous track record, two of the biggest action stars of the country, but it still came out as trashy and horrible. It is high time for Akshay Kumar to take a hiatus and then comeback with a film which redefines him as a actor. Just like SRK

Prithvi acted to learn the technical aspects of making a big budget film. He's a director.

@8:47 FYI most of Kamal Hassan movies are ghost directed by Kamal Hassan himself. Anbe sivam was just an example. Sundar C was just present there during the shooting to say Action/Cut. Everyone here knows it. 🙂

Aranmanai 4 is better when compared to part 2&3, not upto the mark of part 1 in terms of comedy. It's a comedy + horror movie. Though, it failed to make us laugh, but took a different route and introduced new ghost. And also, that was the first movie in 2024, to collect 100+crs in Tamil Cinema. And family audiences were the target and they succeed in that. This is not for the pure cinema lovers.

Aranmanai 4 worked for the Tamil audience and garnered 100 crores for several reasons. One of it is the dry spell of not any family entertainers being released in the first half. Maybe ayalaan but I guess the film wasn’t engaging enough. Besides that the aranmanai franchise is widely loved by the Tamil audience and we all just love to watch time pass films that are easily understandable. Another reason why is think it worked was because the director shifted from the usual revenge plot and brought folklore into it. So the family audiences, which is the target audience of the director loved the film. Though it was nice to see a film where Tammannah’s acting ability is shown.

Agreed. Its not a great movie IMO, but it was decent watch. It definitely wasn't the worst movie but an average movie.

Tamil guy here.. i think the audience are watching aranamanai 4 to ironically laugh at the movie. And as to anbe sivam, it was kamal through and through Sundar. c's "blueprint" is not seen there at all.

Jammy I suggest you to watch "Dear Maya" staring Manisha Koirala. I really loved that movie specially the 'poetry' half. I'm still in disbelief that there was no hype or appreciation for the movie and still remains underated. The movie has minimal complexities and realism instead imbibes escapism and imagination. Especially the portrayal of Manisha's character is purely poetry.

Best thing about Turbo was Dubai Jose

It made 100 Cr because pervert uncles like fair girls showing navel and hips. That is a common theme around all that director’s movies and all of them work financially. Acho Acho song is the reason why uncles went to watch it. Remove that song and the movie would not cross 10 Cr. Sad but in a country where the biggest content consumed is porn, that is A fact.

Guntur Karam scarred me for life. I've waited for years. Worst experience. Considering the expectations. The previous Trivikram - Mahesh movies set the bar too high - Athadu and Khaleja. And followed by this piece of shit, whatever might be the reason it's just unacceptable and disappointing.

I am so surprised Saindhav didn't make it into your list...it was just a poor version of john wick blended with cliched commerical elements that doesn't work at all.

Maidan's choreography for the matches was so good. It was heart wrenching to see it fail in the box office. BTW, I didn't watch any of the movies mentioned in this list. I just have developed a sharp instincts to sense movies which are going to be utter nonsense just by their name and poster. Teaser trailer to baut baad me aata h. Or fir movie me to Mai jata hi nai.

Please do a review on the Marathi movie also and also include them in your series..they also have good stories but lack budget n audience being in Maharashtra they don't do well they also require recognition like other regional movie

Aranmanai 4 had a good run in theatres because in the first half of 2024 there were not much theatre pulling films released in Tamil cinema .. the theatres were dry .. and malayalam films were running well .. that resulted in the success of Aranmanai 4 and it also has the genre that can pull the kids and family audience ..

Malaikottai Valiban is one of the most underrated movies out there.

Turbo & Malaikottai Vaaliban maybe bcoz of its much hype it seem a little disappointment but not a bad film though you can do enjoy the 2nd time but BMCM & other language most high budget movies even without expectations are disasters

I wish a luminary like Mohan Lal gets better scripts. He is going through a turbulent phase in his career. Kind of an anti-climactic end to a wonderful career. Look at Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Hassan: they are still able to make good impressions on the box office. I am yet to hear something similar for Mohan Lal 😞

Lol Mohanlal is only 64 and he will act for another 8 10 years .moreover if box office is criteria his film neru hit blockbuster statues last December after that only 1 movie released and valiban is louder by critics like br rangan.

If you had asked me six months earlier, I would have never believed that the filmmakers behind Angamaly Diaries, Jalikattu, Me Vasantrao, Khosla ka Ghosla, Shanghai, Anbe Sivam , Sultan will make the worst films of the year.

Family Star was a poor attempt to attach that moniker to his name, Family Star? More like wannabe star.

Aranmanai 4 is definitely not the worst movie at least for most Tamil audience. That is only your opinion as a Hindi critic. Aranmanai 4 is not even pan Indian movie and is meant to cater to Tamil audience yet you act like it is pan Indian. Aranmanai 4 was ok movie although I agree it is not a good movie or bad movie. It’s average film. It grossed 100 crores because it worked for family Tamil audience.

Good to know that even south indians movies are worst, otherwise some people criticise bollywood only for worst movies, both industry have good & bad movies

As a telugu and Mahesh Babu's fan, I feel that since his last 3 movies like 'Sarileru Neekevvaru', 'Sarkaru Vari Paata' and 'Guntur Kaaram' flopped, I honestly feel that Mahesh should start working on his scripts since not only him, but also other actors prefer doing only masala and action movies for their fans and it'll be a very big disappointment when they don't work and regarding heroines in the movie, they hardly have any role rather than playing the love interest of the hero which is very cringe !😪

I quiet enjoyed Aranmanai 4..so lil surprised to see this movie on the list..

I commend u spoke so bluntly abt Lejo pellisary's MKV. You were the one that introduced me to this director and his amazing works. And every work was blowing my mind out. But MKV destroyed my neurons on its running minutes. But not many would be so blunt abt that movie calling it a new cinema and piece of art. A movie is only a good movie if it works. It doesn't become a great piece of art thru intentions alone. I hope LJP has learnt the lesson and makes only the movies under his forte from now on and do what he does the best. MKV was an absolute torment.

3:25 Turbo is a garbage film. Its kind of mixed all south indian movies in one movie. Typical Blind fans favourite.

This year is such a dud for Bollywood, good films are also flopping, so much so that opening of 4cr are being celebrated by big production houses. The lack of the Khan's and Ranbir Kapoor is being severely felt this year.

Last year Tiger 3, Pathaan, Adipurush, Gadar 2, Mission Majnu, Shehzada, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Fukrey, Thank You For Coming, Ganapath all these films were crap. Pathetic storylines, some with extreme budgets and other's with cringe writings. Even for mass audience, there was no basic logic or efforts put in the story if not the action sequences.
