The original lion king is my favorite movie. So when I heard about the "live action" remake I was fairly excited. I thought it would be cool to see it reimagined and the movement and models of the characters are really good. But yea, the pacing, the voice acting, the way they replaced a beloved song(I understand why but then why not reimagine the song as well and give us something to new to love??) With chanting, and the lack of emotion. It was definitely a cash grab rather than something that in my opinion, had the potential to be really fun. I know people like to use the argument that the realistic models were the downfall because you can't get them to emote, but I disagree. Animals can be very visible in their emotions. They have strong body language. Not to mention, it's an animated movie. They could have taken the real life body language of the animals and exaggerated it to be more readable. Or even just personified their physical reactions more. What we ended up with models that didn't even emote as an actual animal would. They're static, and it was upsetting to watch.

Joshua and the Promised Land has artistic merit, the lion king remake is... not really. Nobody was passionate about making it or wanting to convey some particular message, since it's story beats and shot compositions are mostly ripped from the original. It's just a cynical move for nostalgia money. Maybe as a metacommentary on the entertainment industry or capitalism in general.

The initial shot of the rising sun. No really, they bragged about it on the featurettes. Completly missing the point of what made the original scene good (the old movie had an exaggerated red on black pallete for that scene, symbolizing the light born from the darkness as the "rebirth" phase of the "circle of life". The new one is just a regular dawn, where everything is visible before the sun shows up)

The Sharknado sequels are what made me realise there's no such thing as a "so bad it's good" movie. What makes a "good bad movie" good isn't the badness that does an underflow of quality, it's the sheer stupidity and how much it commits to it. Basically, a really stupid movie will generally be entertaining so long as they really earnestly commit to the stupid regardless of whether or not they actually realise it's stupid, while a deliberately bad movie will always just be plain bad because they're missing the point of what makes these dumb movies fun in the first place.

The only thing good about The Lion King 2019 remake was hearing "He Lives In You" In the end credits. One of the best songs from one of the best Disney sequels.

one of my parents friends used to have nothing but animated rip-offs... A few of the "Goodtimes" ones are watchable if you are young enough (under 9 or so) the best I can think of is sleeping beauty... but the rest are just AWFUL.

The thing with The Lion King is I get why everyone in English-speaking rooms was upset. My besty saw it in English and was upset to the bone because of the bad performance. But for me who saw the movie in German first, it was just great. They got all old Voice actors in except two (Simba and someone I can't recall atm) and it was so damn nostalgic, you heard out the voice actors had so much joy speaking these characters again. Absolutely amazing. And I will call it official in my ranking higher than the original movie because Disney added music scenes in the new color, new sound version which was so unnecessary in the old movie but you can't find the old cut anymore. Also despite people calling the hyper-realism emotionless the animal body language was so good.

i think the emotionless, animalistic body language may be another reason Anglophone audiences hated it so much. actual lions are quite expressive. felines have facial-emoting brain structure strikingly similar to humans, and cats are great meme material bc they often pull familiar & exaggerated expressions; so the fact that one of the best animals for audiences to visually empathize/identify with seemed disconnected and apathetic, made the whole film (and viewers) feel the same. bet even the English version would be tolerable if a lion's capacity for emoting was used to its fullest extent. (i know i'm over a year late here)

Even without the voice acting, it's just ugly to look at.

I remember seeing the trailer of the lion king remake and I was thinking, "Okay i wonder if there are flaws in the story that needs to change. " I watched it and was disappointed because they copied and pasted everything. They barely made changes.

Yeah when I sat down and watched this movie for the first time with friends we knew it wasn't gonna be good but decided to watch for ironic enjoyment. We were getting through it pretty good until they cut out like half of Be Prepared. After that NONE of us could enjoy the film, not even ironically. Truthfully I'm still kinda mad about it.

Your feelings on Joshua and the promised land are the same feelings I have of Stiff Odds. That's an obscure movie that I only saw someone talk about once, but it's just absolutely hilarious. I really hope it one day gets the cult following that it deserves.

IN THE ADVENTURES OF ACELA MOVIE, THE TROLL CHARACTER HAS LITERALLY THE SAME CHARACTER MODEL AS THE FEMALE TROLL FROM “BROTHERS: A TALE OF TWO SONS” VIDEO GAME. THE FACT THAT THEY JUST TOOK A RANDOM TROLL MODEL STRAIGHT FROM A VIDEO GAME INTO THEIR MOVIE REALLY SHOWS HOW MUCH TIME AND EFFORT THEY PUT INTO THEIR FILM

At least with Leo the Lion, like with Spider’s Web: A Pig’s Tale (which is more than I can say about Viacom’s (because both Nickelodeon and Paramount made this, but the former is just too obvious of a mention because it’s always been (especially as of post-2017) one of my easiest targets when it comes to the worst of the worst) 2000s Charlotte’s Web movies that bores me with their DisneyToon sequel (and I only mean the minority of their films because I actually love most of what they made before DI$NEY gave them the (literally) deathly Blue Sky treatment not long ago to both subsidiaries), you can laugh at how bad it is.

I kind of hate that Rowen Atkinson wasn’t voicing Zazu, he was the perfect person for that role.

5:32 "animals don't emote well" Bruh have you seen any cat meme? Felines emote so well, yet that _animated_ film failed to capture that in its quest for hyperrealism. Though, it wasn't made for art or expression, it was made for cash. So it accomplished what it set out to do. Fr tho just look at Aslan from the Narnia movie, expressive yet hyperrealistic and 10x better. Or even the live action Jungle Book.

Let's be honest, even in person, James Earl Jones is seems tired of everything and everyone. It's normal to see him in my old hometown every once in awhile. He's lovely man, but he wants to just be left alone.

Personally, I really liked the live action Jungle Book. It didn’t really feel like a remake to me. Moreso, it was a different adaptation of the source material, Kipling’s stories, told in a different way from the animated movie.

I completely agree with Lion King reboot, that was such a boring film, I watched it alone and was like "You don't want to watch it" to my parents bc just... aGH it was so forgettable I honestly forgot a majority of what happened. To put it another way, Good Bad is entertaining in some way, being ridiculous, ironically interesting or memeworthy. The Room fits all these criteria. Bad Bad can either be boring, like Acela, or annoying, like Dingo Pictures.

The little panda fighter looks like that "game" in the amazing world of gumball with the panda and these rats are about to fight, and the panda was like "ok, you asked for it" and he just farts a green "cloud" onto the rats

'How to Ratatwang Your Panda', an intentional parody of both Panda Fighter and Ratatoing, the latter film actually got Video Brinquedo sued in 2007 for cashing in on Pixar's Ratatouille. The company have long since gone bust now.

@@amandalynn4979 i’m brazilian and i found out these days a cartoon i really enjoyed when i was little was actually made by video brinquedo, i was literally so shocked cause it was just a harmless miniseries and even though the animation is simple and probably cheap, it was so cute and just- not hideous. i think the company wasn’t necessarily founded to make rip offs but it just ended up happening, idk their whole existence is just funny to me😭😭😭

I actually grew up with Donkey Ollie, and I had a DVD of it. When I watched it, I thought it was pretty good! Then again, I was a literal child... I literally laughed at the death of Mufasa in the remake. Just the flat “Scar. Help me.” And the fact that Scar punches him was all very amusing in a frustrating way.

@@Notamoomin I agree, in the original his presence and voice sounded really sinister and cunning, he felt like a genuine threat to Mufasa, Simba and the rest of the lions. In the remake he looks and sounds like he’s trying too hard to be a “scary” villain
