Rossatron any chance of doing you're own list of action women, just to counterbalance this fans choice list. The weird thing is Rothrock was awesome but Yeoh had the better films and was a better actress, plus she wasn't even a martial artist and to do what she did makes it even more awesome. You should do a video on her action career, she's seriously underrated as many just know her for her serious dramatic career.

"Sarah Connor becomes a Terminator herself." *mind blown* I've seen that movie at least a dozen times and never got that before. I got that she was going nuts trying to save the future, but then she can't bring herself to kill Dyson. But it never occurred to me that her breakdown is her realization she is becoming exactly what she hates; a mindless killing machine trying to change the future. That's why I love this channel. Will definitely change how I see that scene in the future.

I thought it was pretty obvious. She wears the same sunglasses, they play the military march music, and there are similar beats from the first movie like Sarah shooting Dyson exactly like how Arnold shot her friend Gina.

I was so glad to see Samantha Caine from The Long Kiss Goodnight on here, you have no idea. Helen Tasker from True Lies seemed like an odd choice to me though. I know it's a popular vote thing, and I got nothing against her or the movie, in fact she's a really fun character. It's just I don't see her as the same sort of caliber of action star like the other ladies in the list. Especially with Michelle Yeoh not making it (tell me she was the 11th most popular, that she just barely got cut off, she had to have been a contender, right?). Just a random nitpicky side thing. While I totally get the top 2 (and on some level agree with it) it feels a bit predicatble, maybe safe bet who it's going to be. It's sort of like seeing a top action movie list and the longer you don't see Die Hard the more you become sure it will take the top spot. It maybe deserved, but it's kind of more interesting to see the picks you might not have expected. Maybe thats just me. Anyway, this was an interesting vid.

Interesting list and good luck with the Kickstarter, but this vid does remind me why I hardly watch Oliver's videos anymore, he seems IMHO to be unable to talk about a film without just saying what happens in the film. If I haven't seen it, I don't want it spoiled, if I have then I don't need..."Sarah goes to Dysons house, shoots him..."etc. Anyway, I will still look into the Kickstater.

Grace Jones was the highlight of Conan the Destroyer. She genuinely felt like someone who would have grown up in such an unforgiving world. I have an appetite for good schlocky fantasy movies, but it's hard for me to digest those that try so hard to be taken seriously, especially if they throw in a female character to fight along the heroes that honestly looks like she never once lifted a single dumbbell in her entire life. Grace Jones was in the perfect role and helped lift such a deplorably bad sequel as Conan the Destroyer into something somewhat watchable. She had a stupid outfit though... Also, Fuch Yeah! Long Kiss Goodnight! You ever going to do a review of it in depth? It dethroned Die Hard as my favorite Holiday action movie a couple years ago after discovering it by chance.

flippedoutkyrii Grace character also underlines how we see female and male characters differently. In the clip shown in the video she says that she would simply grab a man that she likes. And this moment works because we dont see a woman at that moment, but rather what we would expect from a primitive man. If a man said that we would think of him as a rapist, here we simply find the situation funny.

  • @Mharriscreations

Croz, I'll just agree to disagree. Anyway, one of my main gripes about the action is that I practice martial arts, and though I understand the fights are meant to be over the top, they just look really bad. I can tell that the main characters have never done martial arts before, and it shows in all their movements. It's like the bad-guys are going out of their way to fight as poorly as possible and are trying to get themselves killed. Maybe it was the choreography, but man, it really looks like Uma Thurman and half of the other leads were just random soccer moms picked off the street, given a two hour fight choreography course, and then filmed.

I think Michelle Pfeiffer did well as Selena Kyle/Catwoman, but that was pretty much her only real action role, and about the only good performance in Batman Returns. I can't really argue with this list, just some more honorable mention. Also, Juliet Lewis in Natural Born Killers.

This was a good list, but I wanted to comment on how you think James Cameron changed Ripely in Aliens. I think the film developed her in a way that felt natural and smart when you look at it in context of the first film. She went through a nightmare scenario where she had to face against a unknown creature. Ripely who in the first movie starts out as just a normal person is now a survivor from a horrible event. In Aliens she is traumatized by the event and sees an opportunity to wipe out the aliens on the colony by going with the Marines in hopes to stop them. She finds Newt and feels the need to protect her in order to hope that she doesn't go through the same trauma she had to go through in the first film with the alien. I never really saw the idea of Ripley being a mother as being cheap to soften her up. I think the idea of Ripley being a mother adds more to the film and the character.
