    R A Bardy I think it stretches the definition a little - you have such a reduced menu of choices (there are three things you can do) and you only take one of these actions on each turn, which has no impact on which action your opponents could take. But in principle it’s like the reduced menu of Via Nebula (just even more so!!)

    Good work as always but come on, Lorenzo and Bruge et al do have theme, they just require a bit of subtextual legwork to connect the dots. Their settings may be tacked on but their themes are embedded nicely. Where did you manage to purchase Schuttels?

    Laura Smith Thanks! It was a cheeky dig at games I love - nothing too serious intended. Bruges really could be set anywhere (although I learned a little about the architecture by looking at the board) Arcane Academy has no thematic links to its mechanisms; and Mafiozoo is a re-theme of Louis XIV, a totally different setting! I picked up Schüttels at Essen Spiel convention. It has a unique action selection mechanism itself! (Although it really amounts to a new kind of randomiser akin to a dice-roll; there is a tiny bit of skill involved in tossing those pawns though!!)

    Is San Juan the same game as Puerto Rico?

  • @AdaminWales

    @AdaminWales

    6 жыл бұрын

    San Juan is a card-game which is loosely based on the bigger Puerto Rico boardgame. To confuse matters, in some countries recent editions of San Juan have been named "Puerto Rico The Card Game". San Juan and Puerto Rico are not the same game, but they have some mechanisms in common and the same setting.
