Jonathan Edwards jump at 2002 Commonwealth game could have exceeded the world record( not sure what the wind condition was). he was very long after his second phase which is not usually the case, but his final jump was awful. If the author made the ranking based on distance only, why did he put Adhemar da Silva in this top 10 list ? The Brazilian could only reach 16.56m. Other Brazilians like Joao de Oliviera did much better with 17.89m in 1975, making him WR holder for more than 9 years, before Willie Banks broke it in 1985. But Oliviera is not included in this list.

If were being honest, Taylor should #1 now. He won 4 WC and 2 Olympics. He jumped 18m 5 times while Edwards only did it twice legally. He also managed to win the WC, Olympics and at least 17.96 off his left and right leg which no one has ever come close to doing. He may not own the WR but he checks off every other box.

I sense a salty American. Give credit where it's due my friend. Christian Taylor was amazing, but he didn't quite beat Jonathan Edwards record. And as the video says, the two wind assisted jumps of Edwards in 1995 are the longest ever. Never been beaten. His legal jump in 1995, never been beaten. Still came back to win the Olympics 5 years later too. Had Taylor broke the world record, he'd go to number one. But he didn't. So he doesn't. Two amazing athletes. One jumped further than the other and that's why one of them is number two and the other is number one.

@@Zandohaha You need more than just the world record to be the best. Carl Lewis is considered the best long jumper and he doesn't hold the world record. Same for Taylor, he is the undisputed king of consistency, losing only 1 out of 7 at a major championship and managing to break the 18m barrier more times than anybody else in history. The fact that he won the WC and Olympics of his left AND right leg is unheard of. Plus we shouldn't count Edward's legal jumps, the wind was more than 2x the allowable which is wayy too much. If you look overall, it's clear Taylor is the best.

Taylor jumped 18m 5 times but Edwards only did so twice legally is factually incorrect. According to Wikipedia, they've both jumped 18m or more 4 times a piece.

Edward's *legal* jump still stands as a world record. His championship record jump of 18.43 still stands but is not legal for the world record because the wind was 2.4m/s. That's only 0.4m/s over the limit...hardly way too much.
