Dem people aint poor they lazy. Alabama is the easiest place in America, low rents, jobs hiring. Everything is cheap. Rents here are 3x higher and jobs pay less. They lazy and want everything for free.

Sheffield? Seriously, it isn’t that bad. Courtland is a lot worse. Sheffield just lost its tax base when a highway bypassed it. Sheffield isn’t in the same league as the rest of this list.

Sheffield has a gorgeous historic area, an active downtown, and the Muscle Shoals Studio where some of the greatest songs of the 60s/70s were recorded. Notice he didn't dwell too much there.

I lived there for 18 years after getting out of Army flight school. The mentality of the old money is to keep the state and everyone down to keep their control and power over the folks there. I can tell you stories all day long about the corruption and cover-up stories in Coffee County. Glad to be out of there.

I drove thru Mentone one time it is pretty. Hectors kitchen is good food, we would drive ALL THE WAY from Montgomery just to get a taste of good latin food. Attalla is good people, I think they should have done that documentary elsewhere.

The staff at Hectors was so nice, the cookies and food everything was amazing. Always liked going there.

Sheffield has recently had a massive rehaul. Sounds like he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

I did my part to clean up when I moved here 2 years ago. I’m still actively cleaning & renovating. I way over paid for my place & I bought it from a local deputy. I hauled away 6 - 40 yard dumpsters of trash that had just been tossed out in the yard, 2 dumpsters from inside the house & that was before I began renovating. I do know plenty of good people here from every background & I see efforts to clean up, but there’s no shortage of trash. I’m really hopeful the real estate market is kind to me when I’m ready to make my next move. Idk if I’ll have to sell my current place to get more land or if I’ll be able to buy a neighbor’s property but I’m definitely accustomed to having more land & a smaller but nicer fully customized home.

My grandpa is from Empire Alabama born in 1930, he is 94, when it was still a popular coal mine town. His family owned a small coal mine and his father worked at the local one. I went when I was young and my grandpa took me through what the town used to be! It wasn’t always bad but my grandpa said he couldn’t wait to get the hell out of there and that was in 1940

There are many other impoverished and crime ridden urban white hoods in the northwest corner of the state, Gadsden and Aniston, in the suburbs just southwest and northeast of Mobile, northwest of Birmingham, and yes a few in the suburbs north of Montgomery as well!
