Jack was forced to come out around the same time I was. My situation was much uglier as I was in a Mormon household. Yet the series kept me afloat through that time. The best twist of all is I met Kerr Smith at Sundance years later at a bar and we talked through it, and about many other things, over the afternoon. He was amazing and if I told the 15 year old me that was forced out at that time watching Dawson's Creek that I would meet "Jack" and share how the show saved my life, I'd never believe it. Real life issues, real life hero!

@@angellight495 You just made that up. Kevin Williamson had planned to have one of the main characters to die of natural death since the end of season 1 but then he left at the end of season 2 because of fractions with the newtork. He came back to write the series finale and wanted to tackle something the show had never tackled before, which is the death of one of them(Abby wasn't really anyone's friends, she was barely Jen's friend and not one of the main characters). Kevin clearly knew what to do with her character since she brought everyone together and force them to evaluate their lives.

Season 2 has SO MUCH to unpack once the McPhee's entered the scene in Capeside! Jack and Andie had so much to contend with, and really raised the stakes for the four original cast members of the show as well. I've had a crush on Joshua Jackson since "The Mighty Ducks", and honestly he's one of my favorites on this show because he really showed a wide range of emotions. You can tell he put everything he had into Pacey's character, and I think that's one reason why everyone loved him with Joey at the end: he loved without abandon!

Another issue on Dawson's creek is how people think gay coaches are more dangerous than pedophile coaches. Parents pulling their kids from soccer when they found out Jack was gay. Another is a combination of sexist. Some dads hated a girl being goalie and they didn't care if she was won or loss. They were going to come up with any excuse to fire a gay coach. When nothing one does is good enough that makes that person a villain to me.

@Miss Manawaka You’re right; he did write the finale. But he didn’t like the pairing. Though, it seems he changed his mind in later years. I recall one interview where he was asked about Dawson’s Creek and he said he wrote Joey with Pacey at the time because he had to, because the show changed, but he could understand now why the show runners wanted Joey to be with Pacey. I agree with you; Dawson should have ended the show with his own leading lady. Though I don’t know of one that would be good for him other than Joey. They needed to bring in some new girls as something more than false Daw-Jo conflict, but they didn’t.

@@kailyns8159 The show was only concerned about Pacey and Joey. The other characters didn't mean a thing.

You say that Mike Potter was released near the closing of season one. NOT TRUE! Actually, he wasn't paroled until season 2. And Jack didn't "make," his father do anything. His father CHOSE to accept the fact that Jack is gay. Bit of a difference. Your statement implies that Jack forced his father to accept his homosexuality.

Today, this show would be cancelled by both liberals and conservatives. Apparently teens are supposed to be these picture perfect angels who have zero problems. Makes me sick,

Politics had nothing to do with it, it's social media. This show was on before social media. People whining and bitching on social media has killed so many good shows and film series'.
