Great Video. I travelled to the Netherlands from Sydney back in 2012. April had an unusually extended winter. Luckily I packed plenty of wooliies. I didn’t realise Rotterdam was so far by train. Just over 3 hours! It was so cold and drissly. I liked Utrecht. About an hour by train from Amsterdam central. It was a Sunday and had a great lunch at a cafe by the canal. There was even arm in arm dancing in a church. So I highly recommend anyone travelling to the Netherlands to check out Utrecht, The Hague and Delft.
@NL2500

3 hours??? From Amsterdam to Rotterdam is 1 hours by (intercity) train. The Hague (Den Haag) is on the way and only 45 minutes. From Amsterdam to Maastricht all the way to the South of the country, where they speak a different language (Limburgs) is only 2.5 hours. And to Groningen in the North is also 2.5 hours from Amsterdam with an intercity train. You must have looked at the times of a 'stoptrain' that have stops in every little city on the way. There are only a few trains that you have to reserve for or some have a small extra pay. And on nearly all routes, trains run every half an hour or even more often.

For future travellers: The Hague has 2 bigger train stations. Central Station and Holland Spoor. If you want to travel to Rotterdam from the Central Station you need to take another train in Gouda (or Utrecht) to Rotterdam, it can be done but it will take a lot longer. The trains from Holland Spoor take 19 minutes to get to Rotterdam Cental Station. :)

Hallo, hoe gaat het met iedereen :) I have passion to learn Dutch and join in with the Dutch people as I have Anglo-Saxon native English background from Norfolk/Suffolk UK. I live in the middle of the UK but I am planning to visit Nederlands regularly to explore the cultural and explore the beautiful and peaceful parts of Nederlands and try out cycling while on short holidays including the Dutch food. I hear very positive feedback that people are very friendly and honest. So I am just introducing myself to the community to say hoi.

In the history of the Dutch Royal House three times the royal authority was observed by a regent. Queen Regent Emma was in 1890 when her husband King Willem III was seriously ill and after his death she was for 8 years for her daughter Queen Wilhelmina. In 1947 and 1948 Queen Wilhelmina temporarily laid down royal authority due to fatigue, her daughter Princess Juliana then acting as regent. The Council of State has only observed royal authority when King William III was declared out of government in 1889 and 1890 due to illness.
