I'll judge a dude that rides a motorcycle no more than 30 minutes at a time but feels the need to have a full front fairing, backrest, heated bars, and radio long before I'll judge a sporty rider. Especially if he's the sort of dude that makes jokes about Sporty's being 'girls bikes.' Bruh, you literally spent 20,000 dollars in extras just to pamper yourself, you don't have a leg to stand on here.

@@rockylee7328 you assume that the bike someone rides is any measure of their intelligence? That's rich. You also completely missed my point because you appear be very self conscious about your ride... just enjoy it and move on but anyone that thinks their ride is more manly because it's more comfortable has a much different idea of what it means to be manly than I.

Well in keeping with my first remark, I have no shame with any comparison to a woman either. They're tougher than most men I know. @@rockylee7328 dude, you follow my little pony and some other little kid channels so nobody is taking anything you say serious😂 That being said, how does someone spending more money on a bike make them smart? Then I ask you this, How do you know the person buying the Sportster can't afford a larger Harley? Maybe, just maybe, they don't want a massive bike with a bunch of stuff some of us will never use or care to use. You seem very insecure about your purchase😀

I liked that Harley too, but there's no denying that NOTHING gets as much attention at a gas station as that Yammie. It's insane. or not riding anything at all, as I always say, "The breeze onya kneez doesn't care what ya riding." Besides that though, a Sporty is easy ta work on. no 1 hour spent taking off all the fiberglass, fairings an what-evuh. easy to do oil changes. Viking, when I bot my first Harley nov 22 2013, New Port Richie Harley, she had forwards, man I could stretch out and not be cramped. the bike is easy to work on. I swapped out my rear dir sigz an changed them to tail lites an dir sigs easy enough. Not sure but I think the S&S super G carb has a bigger jet than the stock, but I never had any trouble with it and was told carbs for the sporty's or harleys in general are a bit on the finicky side. shes got a 3 gallon tank as compared to the 2 anna qtr peanut tank, like wtf is one gonna do with THAT ride cross town to auntie Gerts an spen' the day drinking tea instead o riding? sissy bar has a back porch for holding a gal an a half o bugjuice for longer rides. If I did not learn a lot of low speed skills on the Snorty as it snorts like my pug, I'd've dropped the wide glide. I road that sporty to the tune of 3,000 miles b4 I got my bikers ticket to ride as the Beatles would say. reason was that the MSF would not b around till March of 2014 to give the tests. When I bot the bike it came w a legal temp. plate and I got the new plate a few weeks ltr. Wife asks me, "u sposed to have a license to ride? YUP. u have one? NOPE. an ur still riding? YUP. she looks at me ova the tops of her half-moon style glasses and sez "you think that's right?" I tell her ,"Sure its o.k. cuz when MSF comes around in Spring to give the test for the license, I'll have had enough practice to pass the test! I conveniently sed nothing about MSF teaching ppl how to ride. Yup it is a nice bike to ride. anyone getting a bike tho, get a battery tender. i have a battery in that sporty now for over 6 years now. and Sporty's can be so customized I have 2 plugs per cylinder and she run clean.

@@derrellnichols8598 Sportster is the 1st Oem chopper. Chopper was a bike you cut everything you didn't need to ride off , then race it. Hence the name Chopper . Sportster [ XLCH ] Xtra Lean Competition Hot . Shifter was on right side in the beginning so when you were circle track racing you could change gears in corners since all tracks go counter clockwise. Big Harley's brag about Twin Cam, sportster has 4 cams and is gear driven . TWIN CAM has 2 timing chains ! Who's brain - storm was that? I have a neighbor who spent 32,000 dollars on his harley. I agree 100% on everything you say and your views. I've got an 883 and love it. I have never had any desire to raise the tank, upsize the heads to 1200, convert it to anything that it isn't. I've been riding for over 56 years on all sizes, styles and country origins of motorcycles. Loved them all. The only mod's I've ever done have been for durability, reliability and comfort. I have never, ever worried about what someone else thinks of my bike. It's mine. They can do their thing and I can do mine. I will also admit that I have no false illusions of acceleration or handling. My riding buddy can leave me sitting in the mountain twisties on his old Road King because of his bike's superior cornering ability. I have no problem with that. We never compare the size of our ...bikes. We go for the ride. Period. Great video!!!!

I enjoyed your video. Thanks for making it. I'm one of those riders who goes back to the pre-CB750 days when the Sportster was the Superbike of motorcycling. I actually remember when a Sportster was the hottest thing on 2 wheels. Around 1990 Harley finally perfected the Sportster with the all steel frame and Evo motor. Before they cut the suspension down and destroyed cornering clearance to make it lady friendly, and rubber mounted the engine (ruining the handling), it was a great bike. My 2002 883 weighs under 500 lbs, has a 1250 kit putting out around 85 hp and has progressive shocks and fork springs. And by the time you drag a peg in a corner, your knee is about to hit the pavement. Best of all, it LOOKS like an everyday old 883 Sportster. Nobody can believe what just smoked 'em.

I beg to differ with some of what you've said here. I own a 2005 1200 Roadster and I don't think that the rubber mounts did anything but allow the rider to enjoy the full capabilities of the motorcycle. I previously owned a 1982 Suzuki GS850G and the Roadster is its equivalent in every way. 83,000 miles later I still love it and am happy with my investment. I did upgrade the suspension with progressive suspension to compensate for my 290 pounds.

David Beside even in black denim, the Iron 883 is not a Dyna. And almost everyone customize it. Sporsters are very popular in Europe, especially in cities with a lot of traffic like Paris. In France new riders have to wait two years before having an unrestricted bike (engines have to be downsized to 47 horsepower) which makes sporsters the default beginners bike.

I have to wonder about those who have the need to denigrate anybody's ride and Sportsters in particular, what is it they lack... ohhh a Sportster!! I'm loving mine, both of them!

Everyone told us not to get a Sportster for my wife (it's been featured on my channel), BUT, she is 5 foot nothing and wasn't strong enough to stand my Deluxe up on her own. But she ended up picking up a 2014 Forty Eight Hard Candy Custom XL1200 and it's extremely fun to ride. Since then, I've sold my Deluxe but still have the Road Glide, and I like them all. Not a big fan of the power of the Street models, but they're comfortable for 1 rider in short trips around town and backroads. So I respect this video because I heard people say "If they can't pick it up, they shouldn't be riding it." And that's simply not true. The truth is "If they can't stand it up all the way and still be flat footed, it either needs to be adjusted/lowered, or choose something they can comfortably be flat footed with for stability and safety!"

Here's the deal...I wanted a new Harley to replace the 1982 GS850G and chose the 2005 1200 Roadster. 83,000 miles later, I still love it. Everything you need, nothing you don't. The belt broke at 74 thousand miles. It took an hour to replace it, but much of the time was invested in being anal about the belt tension and the wheel alignment. It gets 60 mpg, back tires typically last 10K miles, fronts last 15K. It has Progressive suspension, a Super Sport windshield, Sundowner seat, and a luggage rack for my lunchbox. I ride as much as I can. The lone "shortcoming" is the lack of a sixth gear, but that doesn't affect my riding. At $9700 out the door, it was the best value for the money in Harley's lineup.

I watched this the other day and chuckled about the tank lift thing. I was driving today and passed a guy tinkering with his Harley on the shoulder. I turned around and to check on him, and he was a young guy with a brand new Sporty. I asked if he was ok and he said, “Yeah, the fuel pump came loose. I did the tank lift the other day and I didn’t put it back in right, I think.” His dad pulled up to follow him home so I took off, but I had a second good chuckle thinking about this video as I pulled away. The other cool thing is that they are very rare. Close to 20 more HP from the factory than a regular Sportster. Inverted forks, plastic gas tank, oil cooled and air cooled, air intake is under the tank, real brakes, sportbike tires, rear sets. It is the perfect bike for South Florida... due to the flat, straight roads all at sea level.

Love 5 speed 1200 pre 03 rubber mounted Sportsters. Once sorted, carb and pipes, shocks & brakes, they are a fast, reliable do it all motorcycle. Little known fact, the stock 883 taken out with just the 1200 big bore kit from Wiseco et al, is a faster street motor than a stock 1200. Reason; smaller valves and faster port velocity. I've done a few. First time you have a 1200 piston on a bench, and an 883 barrel in the lathe, as you start removing cast iron, you will be shocked, i repeat shocked on how much metal is coming off. Great vlog.

I own a 2017 Street Glide and a 2018 1200 Iron. I bought the Iron because it reminded me so much of the 77 sportster that I had, which was a peace of junk. I ride the Iron a lot more then the Street Glide because I do a lot more short distance riding then long distance riding. I love riding the Street Glide when I need to get on the interstate or if the wind is too bad. The joy of riding the Iron, like most people that ride Harley's, is it reminds me feel like a bad ass. The sportster is Harley in the raw. Not for the faint of heart. If I would have to get rid of one of them, it would probably be the Street Glide. It's just more of an accomplishment to ride a Sportster 800 miles then a Street Glide. I'm 66 now and still enjoy the Sportster.

Your videos are rad. Next time I’m in Ybor city , I will stop by the bar you work at for sure! Keeping it weird.

I loved the video! I ride an '07 1200R, and don't care what someone calls it. Put the 4.5 gallon tank on it, did full Screaming Eagle Stage IV kit, and Magna Flow Short Shots. After Dyno tuning developing a shade over 100hp. Of course added the obligatory chrome accessories and wheels (tastefully, not gaudy). I say buy what you like...........and.........RIDE IT!!!!!!!!!!

@@westcoast3595 I know more than your wanna be shade tree mechanic @ss. Did you go to state 4 times and get sponsored by a harley dealer? No i didn't think so. So stfu and think before you make moronic accusations. But obviously you are severely emotionally invested in a machine because your life is sad. So you wanna lap or strip gears while significantly increasing your parts costs when not if you break off a gear tooth? As well as all of the extra time (or labor costs cause I'm sure you can't do it yourself) you have to put into it when not if your timing goes out. Occasional, easy, cheap routine belt or chain swap or rebuild the entire cam WHEN it blows. Yeah ok you OBVIOUSLY know what you are talking about. 🙄. Its ok I'm sure you will steal someone's comment on a forum of how one specific model of chain or belt drive was recalled and use that as a feeble attempt to justify your incorrect opinion. Oil pump? What about it? You can't just state a random part you looked up for 2 seconds on Google to seem intelligent and not explian why you like it? Carb? Oh God it all makes sense now you are one of those who would still have the industry standards be carbs, hard tails, halogen bulbs, tube tires and spoked wheels. Just the fact that you claimed carbs proves you know nothing. Like i said its your lie you live it. Go ahead leave more misinformative dribble i don't have the patience to educate you over and over.

Supersonic2747 So you are a projectionist. You have no clue of me. I have built a lot of machines including tractors. Going to school doesnt mean you are smart. VRod was cool. Baggers are amazing. Softail frame was ingenious. But I guess your emotional self cant have a conversation. Sportsters were one of the beat things to come out. AMF fixed harleys lower end leaks. But hey what do I know? According to you I am an idiot. Thank you. Have a great test of your day.

I just bought my first motorcycle this year. I found a carb performance orange 2000 sportster 883 (converted to 1200) with 15k miles and screamin eagle pipes for $2500 on FB. Man that bikes is fun to ride and loud. Plus parts are cheap and easy to find. Perfect beginner bike and don’t feel the need to get a bagger. I have yet to get any disrespect from riders. The only thing that matters is you are riding on two. Any who I’m not brand loyal, ride what you enjoy, and F what others think.

One of my buddies used to have a mid 70’s Sportster that he got on a trade. It had unbaffled zoomies on it and it sounded like a Gatling gun when it idled. It never ran right but it was a great party trick because it shot flames out the exhaust so at parties we’d get drunk, pull it out of his shed and wake up his neighbors by making loud fireballs with it.

I'll argue I slip past the 1200 hundred kit one because I actually did just do a 1275 kit after to years of talking about it. Loved the video keep it up man, we need the laughs during all this shit.

I knew I was getting a Sportster and I wanted a 48 but I hated that I’d have to trade range for aesthetics. In the end I went for the bigger tank on the “less stylish” 1200C model and I’ve had no regrets. I’ve had a lot of fun learning with this bike. I’ll eventually trade it for something bigger but until then I enjoy ripping around on this little Sportster.
