The ironic part of that quote is Ted misattributing it to Walt Whitman. Whitman never said this. The origin of the phrase is unknown, so for all intents and purposes we can say they're Ted's words. I like that better given how fantastic that scene is.

It is very good advice and a terrific scene but, as other commenters have noted, Whitman never wrote or said it. But since it is at least good advice, I rank it better than another notorious misattribution, "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you've imagined," supposedly by Henry David Thoreau. This quotation is (at best) a garbled paraphrase of what he actually wrote in _Walden_, and as used/interpreted in the TV commercial that started it -- by an investment house to say they could lead you to live a luxurious life in retirement -- would make Thoreau roll over in his grave.

Ted Lasso was such an unexpected suprise. I wasn’t going to watch it, thought the premise was ridiculous. But I heard so much praise that I decided to give it a go. What a treat! So much more than a silly comedy. I should’ve been curious, not judgemental.

The fact that Sudeikis can embody someone so utterly positive oh so convincingly while undergoing marital problems just like Ted blows me away.

I'm a teacher and I finally caught this show over Christmas. It's brilliant and so positive. I felt I was in a bit of a rut but this show has helped reinvigorate my love for my job due to the way Ted conducts himself in the way he relates to others and how he coaches them. I have 'Be Curious Not Judgemental' up in my classroom, 'Believe in Believe' is due to go up and I've told a few of my kids to 'Be a goldfish' when they hold onto something. Its so growth mindset and so positive

Watched season 1 in one of the darkest moment of my life. I was feeling sad and helpless, but Ted really made me laugh and give me a sense of positive happiness.

That quote about never quitting anything in his life makes so much sense now

I watched the first episode not knowing what I was getting myself into. Not only did I die laughing but this show really helped during a dark time when I could’ve really used some extra optimism. Can’t really say that about many other TV shows. Anyone who’s going through a tough time just check it out, you just might learn something.

Since watching Ted the phrase "I appreciate you/that/what you did" has crept into my daily life. Powerful message.

The goldfish one is great. But imo the "curious not judgmental" should be the #1 quote. It sums up the entire show and Ted as a person

I know this is a specific Ted quotes list, but Roy’s whole piece to Rebecca about not settling on “fine,” is really poignant.

Does she make you greater?" -Leslie Higgins These two quotes, at least in my eyes, are like peanut butter and jelly. You are amazing, and you deserve to be with someone who makes you happy and inspires you to be even greater than you are. Don't settle for someone who makes you miserable or someone who makes you a worse person.

I'm going through a very rough time in my life, one of the lowest. Revisiting this video and listening to this quotes, really helped. This whole show is like a warm hug, that turns specially warm when you need it the most

I strive to be more like Ted lasso every day.

Totally hit the nail on the head with the comment about emotions running the gambit. I can't remember another show I've seen where I'm laughing out loud one moment, then getting all misty eyed not 10 minutes later. Everything about this show is just magical.

I cried THE ENTIRE 15 minutes of this video. This is why I love Ted Lasso.

it's such a well written show. The writers are amazing.

This show gave me what star trek usually gives me: doing what's right, even when nobody wants you to do it, and finding delight and wonder in life and what the future can be ❤❤❤❤

Ted Lasso is one of the rare shows that regularly has left me saying wow in regards to its writing

Parent Teacher Conference with Roy was HILARIOUS!!! His niece called one of the other students a pathetic shit fucker...Roy says Is he? And the Teacher says Oh God Yes!!!!!

When his son asks him “what’s a wanker?” “That’s a man that needs to be alone with his thoughts”

That's a callback to his initial introduction on the NBC Sports network.

At least as an Honorable Mention, I'd have added Roy Kent's line to Ted after arguing about his resigning as Team Captain, "This is why it's hard to love you," and then Ted and Coach Beard's reaction: "You heard it right?" "He loves you!"

Watched this during my separation, and this was such a delight to watch. This show got me completely hooked, sad when it ended, but such a beautiful ending to a fantastic series xx

This is one of those shows where I start watching and I like to think I'm like Ted. As the show goes on, I realize I'm Roy and I should probably get counseling

I really love the positivity that comes from Ted. It feels sincere and that is a rarity found these days

So easy to just blindly hate on Nate by the end of Season II but it's so complex...and yes - he went off the deep end, quick...and he's a little jerk but there's some serious issues that guys is facing and navigating. Such an awesome character and storyline

My favorite quote is "You guys need to woman up because manning up has gotten you here"... or something like that

It's so hard to watch this knowing the misery Jason Sudekis was going through in his personal life. I hope he takes his character to heart and gets through it.

Yes.. The season 2 finale was rough. But I think it is setting Season 3 up to be amazing. I am looking forward to Nate's arc in season 3.

Knowing the origins of Ted Lasso, I was half-expecting sayings like "Where ya been?" and "Quit cheatin'."

Just love this show! Football and comedy, what more can we ask for...

Please do one on Rebecca’s character too. She’s the rock that holds the ship tight!

The only thing about this show that I don’t like is that it won’t go on forever. Ted makes me feel good about SOMETHING in every show.

I thought I wouldn't be interested in this show because I'm not much into sports in general, but I love this show! I just finished Season 2 last night - so good!

“be curious. not judgemental.” should be NUMBER ONE. EVERY aspect of the show, from the plot points, to the characters, to the show itself shouldn’t be JUDGED.

Ted, calmly: "Coach, tell 'em what the first rule of my fight club is-" Beard, screeching: "NO FIGHT CLUB!" Ted, still calmly: "No fight club, that's right." One of my favourite scenes.

Never would I have guessed how much I'd come to appreciate this show. The original idea was fun but seemed like crazy to make it a full series. Glad I was wrong about that.

This isn't related but when it shows that makes those biscuits for Rebecca every night it made my heart beat softer. I sobbed at his divorce scene when he let her go , words can't express how hard it hit me N don't forget the fucking sweetest shit ever is their deal when they say Oklahoma 😭

My favourite is when he says to Jamie 'you're so big on the fact that you're one in a million that out there on the pitch you forget that you're just one of eleven' It's something like that but I loved that line

I am only through the first one but his Allen iverson to jamie was great and his Hoosiers before Manchecter United was great

Everything always works out in the end - this is a quote I have lived by for years! I loved hearing it in the show! FYI - It is originally a John Lennon quote, which just makes it even better when Ted expounds on it. ❤️

AppleTV+ is pretty much garbage, in my opinion. Ted Lasso, however, is an absolute collection of genius acting; genius writing and genius timing. I don’t expect to ever see anything match this show! Great job by all involved!

Give Servant a watch if you haven’t seen it. Slow burning and tense with incredible acting. Rupert Grint (Ron from Harry Potter) plays a key role and does so with great effectiveness.

@@tamarleahh.2150 I’ve only seen the first two episodes, and some of the visuals are stunning. Though I’ve been slightly disappointed so far. I felt there are large periods within the two episodes that have been dull & lacking real meaning, especially since the show is moving at breakneck pace (lots of jumping ahead). Regardless, there have been some interesting turns already, but still unsure on whether I’ll be a regular viewer or not.
