My first band was Therion, absolutely fell in love with their sound in the first listen

My very first band was Within Temptation, then I discovered Nightwish, which became my favourite band. When Tarja left, replaced by Anette, I lost some interest in that band. I begann to favour Hammerfall alongside Epica and Within Temptation. When Floor took the stage with Nightwish, I was overwhelmed. Today my favourite band is Nightwish again.

Epica is so fun live. Very touching. Followed them through Texas and met them twice. I have so much Epica tour merch. Dimmu is awesome live too.

The song "Mother Earth" by Within Temptation, featured in the Anime series "X", was the song that turned me into a metal fan many many years ago. Today my favourite band is Nightwish, though. Place 2 in this list is quite good, but in my opinion they belong in first place. 😄

Transiberian isn't really a metal band because it has elements of a functioning orchestra. It has sections such as string, brass and percussion with the occasional opera soloist. It also has classical music elements. There's a lot of soloist but there not all metal musicians.

Symphonic metal is one of my favorite metal genres of all-time 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻

En este video difiero un poquito; Para mí Haggard es Symphonic Doom Metal (tiene bases de Doom) y Nightwish pueden ser: Symphonic Power Metal. Solamente en el primer album tuvieron algo de Gothic Metal.

Can sameone make the list of songs in this compilation? I don't know names of these masterpieces.

You know it's nice to know that current music outside of the USA is still good lol. At least one American band is still decent. Most of my fav current artists are not from the USA and a few of them are on this list. I LOVE Symphonic metal. My fav song of all time is still Escapist by Nightwish and I also love Within Temptation and Epica. Bought some of their songs on iTunes.

Epica by a mile!

Therion started it, Nightwish brought us Tarja, Epica and Floor's bands, Sirenia, Xandria, Dark Sarah and now we have also Ad Infinitum, with the marvelous singer Melissa Bonny. Death- Gothic and Powermetal can also have symphonic influences but would not call it Symphonic Metal.

What would you say the real definition of symphonic metal is?

Curious as to the criteria or measures used to assess rank. Number of record sales, social media fans, concert ticket sales or a combination of a number criteria. I’m surprised that Therion topped bands like Nightwish, WT and Kamelot in this list which leads me to think the ranking is entirely subjective. Which is OK too.

nah, therion is top tier, I think the top 3 is correct.

also Floor is great, huge fan of hers, but nightwish isn't night wish without tarja...I feel like all the what about Floor as nightwish singer are all kids that weren't around for the more than a decade of Tarja and her magnificence

I love Within Temptation but this is the only song I don't like from them, so if I'd heard of them for the first time, I would probably think they are bad.
