Aaliyah died the same day I got married to my now exwife. It’s so crazy how it’s been a few days more than 21 years ago that she passed away. It’s also crazy that I’ve been divorced now for few days more than 20 years 6 months.

When it comes to singers in the 9-13 age group, current shows like American Idol, AGT and BGT don't even come close in talent finding than in the days of Star Search.

I remember watching Alanis Morrisette on a show on Nickelodeon called “You can’t do that on television” in the 80s when I was kid. In the 90s when she released “ Jagged Little Pill”, I had no idea she was the same girl that was on that old show. I didn’t find that out for a long time after I became a fan. Still love her too❤️

@@jeniestra. not an idiot, a genius. Look at how successful she was. Jessica Simpson tried the powerful voice in bubblegum pop and was nowhere near the level Britney was. They knew what was marketable and how to sell her and were obviously right. It's easy to say "well if she sang in her real voice she would've been more popular" when we really don't know that. Bollywood is full of thinking like this. Belting wasn't seen as lady-like and the image they were going for didn't fit it. Even Christina wasn't on Britney's level even with her powerhouse vocals

Sinbad (the comedian) has been completely over looked. While he never became a superstar, he's had a long career in movies and TV. I met him the year he was on Star Search while he was touring (the finale hadn't aired yet). He was as hilarious off stage as on it.

When my son was nine, we moved from Texas to California. He was bullied a lot because of his drawl. I told him to tell the bullies that Beyoncé, Jamie Foxx, Patrick Swayze, and even Meatloaf were Texans, and the integrated circuit that makes personal computers possible was developed at TI, just 5 miles from my childhood home.

I think model Bobbie Brown was also on Star Search. I have no clue if she won, but she sure went on to become famous for being in that Warrant video.

Christina Aguilera was amazing and she still is!! The best singer out of all of them!!

Someone worth mentioning is Clint Black who defeated LeAnn Rimes on Star Search. During their competition the horn player who was playing LeAnns song could not hit the higher note so it sounded like LeAnn was off key and Clint won that round.

Usher is missing from this list. So were Paula Abdul, Sinbad, Dave Chappell, Tiffany, Martin Lawrence and Rosie O’Donnell.

Here's a weird thing, back in the 80's I saw the band RATT on Star Search. I told my little brother, "they're good but they'll never go anywhere with a name like rat." Then they won the show. Now there's no mention of them ever being on Star Search much less them winning the show. I recently asked my little brother if he remembered me saying that and he said "Yes, I remember." And now the category they were in isn't even listed on the Wikipedia page. Mandela Effect? Who knows, but I know what I saw, and so does my brother.

I knew about most of them, Alanis surprised me!

Beth Hart got a ton of perfect scores and won the championship. After going through some tough times, she has become a top notch blues singer, and even sang at the Kennedy Center Honors (With Jeff Beck on guitar) honoring Buddy Guy.

Bill kaulitz should have been there, I mean he didn't really have the voice .... but he definitely had entertainment, he knew how to entertain someone but many people didn't forget he was in star search.

I remember watching Tatyana Ali on Star Search. Ed Sullivan couldn't say her name straight. And she really rocked it for such a tiny girl. I remember LeAnn Rhymes too. Really not a surprise she shot to stardom. Ok, I did not realize That was Timberlake. He was adorable back then. I do remember Girls Tyme, but I never could have identified the ladies it. I also remember Spears. To be completely fair, apart from Tatyana Ali I had to see their faces back then to bring back the memories of watching them. Miss Ali I remember because I got mad at Sullivan for making an ass of himself. It's not that hard to say someone's name correctly, especially when they are patiently sounding it out for you.
