Mcu is probably the only good cinematic universe, and even I'm starting to get sick of their movies. Everything is a remake now, literally NO ONE has any original ideas anymore. Everyone looks as if they're trying to copy off the mcu and replicate their success.

I really like Disney channel's live action "Winnie The Pooh" back when Disney was a paid channel. Growing up we had one T.V. and no cable (which was fine with me due to my ever increasing love of books) However, every summer at my Nana's house (whom bless her heart had cable) Disney would offer two whole weeK GRATIS!! For freeeee! Despite being a die hard book toting, nature loving, Tom Boy. Those two weeks were something I looked forward to every year. Now that I think about it they also had a live action "Alice in Wonderland" called "Adventures in Wonderland" that was definitely a favorite Forgive me for the self indulgent nostalgic diatribe. I enjoyed it. Now excuse me while I spend. the next six hours watching old Disney shows on KZread!

@@Ones_Complement Actually, a big problem we have now with movies is the studios doing their best to get movies pass the Chinese government censor and rating guidelines; the CCP has so much control over what they would allow into their country that Studios kowtowing, bending over backwards to please the Chinese government. They also rewrite scripts, allowing CCP to motify them just to win their market! Take for example the otherwise good movie like "The Martians", an needless inclusion in the scene of the fictional Chinese NASA coming to the rescue of supplying rockets for the resupply. Or "Kong, Skull Island" with the Chinese actress, what was her function in that movie and try counting how many words she actually said in it!? Chinese eye candy for the CCP then? We can make fun of our country, our government, our president and laughed at our own military and police but try even remotely make fun of the CCP or show up their military in a poor light and such movies would never see the light of day! Prime example was the complete altered scripts of "World War Z" or "Red Dawn" Look up SARFT (State Administration of Radio, Film and Television) and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_censorship_in_China!II Yea, I understand China has a big population and represented a big chunk of humanity but hey, don't go out of your way just trying to appease them for the sack of their market. Hollywood is selling out its creativity and our national pride without shame!

Yep. I'm even to blame. I didn't see a single movie between Captain Marvel and Endgame. Heck, I didn't see a single movie between Aquaman and Captain Marvel. Pretty sure there were tons of original ideas released between those movies. I'm all for original ideas, but I have to support them. But I also go off the trailers. If the trailer gets me interested, I'll go see it. But a lot of people are doing what I did when it comes to skipping all these movies in between superhero movies. So it all comes down to moviegoers.

@arno victor Okay here we go: Where did they get the scissors from? Why do millions of clones who lived underground their whole life suddenly have the same kind of scissor for their killings? How did Adelaide leave the underground that easy? Okay maybe because the project leader gave up on them and the security system broke down or sth but why was Adelaide the only one who tried to escape? And most importantly: Why couldn't Red/Adelaide just escape after she was imprisioned by her clone? Btw it's very veeeeery strange that Adelaide met her clone at that specific time at that specific location. Highly unlikely don't you think? How did every clone exactly know where his doppelganger was? Even if they were sent above before the invasion to prepare themself it's really unlikely that nobody noticed. All the clones are insane. How did Red communicate with all these million people through all these tunnels and more importantly: How did they understand her plan when they're totally crazy? How are the clones so highly trained, flexible and good at fighting when being isolated for their whole life? It's highly unlikely that they had a fighting teacher down there. And even if they had: How would they remember such a complex program with their level of madness? And last but not least: Adelaide could easily escape the tunnels which probably means that the project was over already at that time and there was no security. HOW did she managed to find out about fake Adelaide's husband, find this specific person's clone and have children with him who are the exact counterparts of fake Adelaides children? Looking at the biological possibilities THIS is the most unlikely thing ever!

There are actually more original films made nowadays than there have ever been before thanks to new technologies. The truth of the matter is this; NOBODY, not you or a vast majority of film goes, actually cares all that much about original films. Film making is a business BEFORE it is an art. If there was money to be made in original films, studios would make original films in a heartbeat. In reality, they are too risky to put too much money into. Original films are risky because we don't go see them. We are not part of the problem. We ARE the problem. Not Hollywood.

Why we have a lot of the issues mentioned in this video: The audience doesn’t spend their money on films that have the opposites of these qualities. They default to what’s easy and what’s familiar, and the good, original films that get made (and they DO get made) continue to not make money at the box office. Why would studios choose to make movies that audiences will simply not see anymore? This isn’t a studio failure...they’re just following our money.

They emphasize this with the narration for #1, but this can't be said enough. Movies cost the studio way too much to just flop. There's (almost) no way a studio is green lighting a project that costs north of $200 million or more without a guarantee of a profit.

Shinarydk Hey, don’t blame others for “Hellboy”. It WAS going to happen when Ron Pearlman got in the makeup for Make-A-Wish or something. The reason it didn’t get made is that Del Toro and the creator, who had become good friends, had a fallout writing the script for 3rd movie that was so bad, it ended their friendship. Blame the creator if anyone because he probably still has some rights to the IP, and let the reboot happen.

It's a creativity problem really. Ultimately it comes down to the writers. There was an unspoken rule for decades in the film industry: Don't make a sequel unless it will be as strong, unique and creative as the original. Look at some of the greatest sequels of all time (Empire Strikes Back, Aliens, Toy Story 2, etc.) and compare them to the current stream of sequels. Hollywood is rapidly running out of ideas.

I personally haven't went to the movies ever since Pixar's Onward. Not just cuz of the pandemic, but also cuz I don't see the point of going to a movie theater anymore. What used to be a fun outdoor activity now seems like a pointless one. Why? Cuz one can easily watch upcoming films online or digitally, and you can watch such new films at your own pace and in your own home. I know it's not the same as waiting for a film to come out in theaters and then go ahead and watch it; I just find it more comforting to watch films at home rather than in a movie theater. Plus, its A LOT cheaper to watch something online or digitally, contrary to going to a movie theater and having to pay 20+ dóllars, or even more just to watch a single film.

Before I add this to my favorites, the video made me realize that even though we have some of the greatest movies ever, sometimes they can be flawed by their own trailers or even their posters Movies are indeed getting worse. Hollywood crucified favorites like Hellboy and The Mummy, making too many sequels instead of leaving one movie like Transformers, putting too much super CGI over storytelling like The Hobbit, taking something animated and turning it live action like Garfield and Avatar: The Last Airbender, and using young adult books like I Am Number Four and The Darkest Minds to earn a moderate result. Too many reboots and remakes, that are not as superior as the original, ect. Thank you, WatchMojo. You've been a good teacher. I never even realized it until i watched this video. Edit: Thanks a lot Hollywood. Now I will never look at trailers again or see them the same way again

Agree. I have some ideas, but probably those gringos artist would not ever dare to think. Similar to the man in the high castle. What if native americans repelled the inmigrants of the mayflower and the rest? What if native americans signed the declaration of independance and some chiefs were part of the founding fathers? What if simon bolivar actually sucedeed in create a federation here in south america, despite the sabotage of usa? What if the urss won the cold war?

Chase Hedgee Hollywood is a risk-averse town because losing money is costly for a studio (look at “Heaven’s Gate”, a film that bombed so badly that it led to “United Artists” declaring bankruptcy). At the end of the day, Hollywood is a business and if you can make a lot of money with little risk involved (see every live-action remake of a Disney animated film), why not take that route? I agree with you that if you look at the “top 10 highest grossing movies of the 2010s” vs. “the top 10 highest grossing movies of the 80s and 90s”, you’ll notice that in the 80s and 90s, there was an *even distribution* of original AND non-original (sequels, remakes, comic books, literary adaptations) films in the top 10 lists, whereas nowadays, the majority of the films in that list are either a sequel, remake, reboot, or comic book (the only “original” movie to make it in the “Top 10 highest grossing films of 2019” List is “Us”).

c sh Hollywood has always been a business first and foremost. That’s not to say they don’t care about quality as well, but a lot of the criticisms that the video makes are nothing new, particularly *studio interference, prioritizing star power over talent, and Hollywood churning out sequels, remakes, and franchises.* There’s nothing wrong with wanting to make money just as long as you’re not cynical about it. You can still care about making money while also wanting to turn in a good product, such as with the Disney animated films.

One reason: Lack of creativity. Not only in reboots and ideas getting recycled. But in songs, in fashion going retro. In car designs. It’s an overall state where everyone is afraid to say or do or think the “wrong” thing. So everyone one recycles and takes minimum risks. That’s why imo culture peaked in y2k and since then it has been a slow and steady brain drain.

They have REALLY run out of ideas. It's a writing issue more than a director issue. Even the greatest director around will be wasted if the film writer's story is not creative or good quality.

I don’t understand a lot of people they always get angry at Disney making so many reboots but they watch them all just so they have a reason to complain. You are literally what makes these movies more prominent in the film industry.
