One thing to note, there isnt a Tarrasque. There only THE Tarrasque. Each universe only has one Tarrasque and being in the mere radius of it automatically inflicts you with fear, its hide is resistant to all magic, it is immune to illusion spells, it regenerates health as well as being immortal. The only way to "kill" a Tarrasque is to reduce it to ash and then cast a Wish spell to banish its soul to a different plain. They also have an appetite equivalent to multiple Deviljho from monster hunter so thats also a thing. So while not as smart, they are ten times more dangerous then a mindflayer.

@@johnnyfountainS I have no idea what your talking about but if you are implying you can 1v1 a Tarrasque then you never placed dnd. If you are talking spell range, then that wouldn't work either, as the spell would fizzle out as the monster is immune to magic and there is the chance of throwing it back at the caster, so a paladins divine smite is a suicidal idea.

As someone who's been involved with the hobby for over a decade now, I've seen more than my fair share of terrifying monsters in the game. This list, truthfully is woefully inadequate when it comes to listing the most horrifying and scary monsters in the game's long history. You want nightmare fuel in the form of monsters from this game, here's the way I'd have presented this list based both on a monster's appearance and abilities. #1) The Tarrasque (because it would eat anything else on this list, along with anything and everything else it encounters, and is completely invulnerable to normal means of destruction, including spells, magic items, and the like.) #2) The Demon Princes and Arch Devils - A collection of specific monsters that include Asmodeus, ruler of the Nine Hells, and Demogorgon, the Prince of Demons. As powerful as they are though, they are still able to be killed. #3) True Dragons (Red and Gold dragons specifically are the most powerful examples of these monsters) #4) Bone Devils -- While I could put most demons or devils here in this slot, the Bone Devils are certainly among the most terrifying in both looks and capabilities. [Even though they are less powerful than both Balors and Pit Fiends). #5) Illithids (aka Mind-Flayers) - They are certainly monsters worth noting, but they just don't measure up to the others. #6) Beholders - They come in a variety of forms, and each one is extremely dangerous as well as terrifying to look at. #7) Aboleths - They only rank this low in the list because of how rare it is to encounter them, as they live Underwater in Underground caverns, but even a single Aboleth is a serious threat to entire nations, as it can easily dominate and enslave any other sentient creature that it encounters. #8) Gibbering Mouthers (They aren't too hard to deal with ability wise, but they definitely look like they belong in a Lovecraft film) #9) Flesh Golem (with Vampires being a solid contender here as well) #10) Mimics (They belong on this list for their abilities only) Honorable Mentions: Szass Tam, the Archmage Lich, Most Oozes, Yochols, Lycanthropes (Werewolves, etc etc). There are too many to list here honestly, so if I haven't mentioned something that you genuinely believe should be in the top 10, it is safe to say it would get included here.

My brother had a few D&D monster books when he was a kid and there was one... can't remember what they were called, but they were basically giant undead floating fetuses that were described as being gods that were stillborn. They were creepy looking and were really high level monsters too like the Tarrasque which was also in that same book.

Honestly, the Tarrasque should be number one. That thing can quite literally eat entire colonies of mind flayers. Also, no fiendwurm? (Monster Manual 2, 3.5e). A giant wurm that can puke up an endless supply of demons. If you need a level 20 TPK and don't want to waste the Tarrasque, use a fiendwurm.

Although, I still have been looking for live-action Dungeons & Dragons movies for a special occasion. However, I wanna save that for a better time when I have enough money. Still, I can’t complain about these fantasy games or movies. 1. The Flesh Golem 2. The Mimic 3. The Gibbering Mouther 4. The Basilisk 5. The Beholder 6. The Carrion Crawler 7. The Aboleth 8. The Oblex 9. The Dracolich 10. The Mind Flayer Others: -The Hag -The Tarrasque -The Balor -The Oozes -The Sibriex
