Thank you for all the information. If you see that the leaves have brown on the edges, do you recommend to cut them off or just leave them? I know I'm guilty of underwatering which is likely the cause of that. Thank you.

My Ficus Elastica Ruby's new growth is coming in deformed. It started with smaller growth, of which would not un curl and now the last 3 leaves are deformed. I think I plant nearby had thrips so I have treated this plant for them and it is in quarantine ♡ I'm hoping this fixes the problem! Thank you for such an informative video!!

This video deserves more comments and likes. Very informative, thank you! My question is, I believe I’ve over fertilized my plant (liquid) and the leaves mostly turned brown and fell. Would leaves grow again from the same spots that fell?

Very informative video. I have a question for you.. the underside of my rubber plant, which is about just over a foot tall, have some brown spots on them. What would be the cause of that? ..still perhaps underwatering it or fungal growth or a bit dusty? The topsides are nice n healthy looking. Thanks for your response. I'm just seeing this video today, April 2024.
very nice and very informative especially thta I just bought a rubber plant and i am very new to plant care. I just have one question tho. due to packaging some if the leaves are deformed but not damaged that they are almost falling ..what i can do to retain their natural form? and how to straighten my rubber tree's form ? i prefer a straight rubber plant ( it was originally straight but it bended due to travelling)

Thank you for this very helpful video! My tineke is doing ok, but the new growth tip (at the very top of the stem) is brownish. Is this normal or is the new growth dying? Thank you for your time!
Very good and informative video!👍 I have a ficus tineke for over 6 months, and it was so beautiful, but now it’s starting to develop some problems😞: I’ve seen some red dots on the leaves and also brown spots on the egdes of the leaves and some leaves are starting to falloff. Also the leaves look sad and facing down. I cleaned the leaves with alcohol/water and sprayed them with the neem oil for about 3-4 days, but still don’t see any difference. Can you please advise what else I can do to save my plant? I use a plant meter to help me control the watering of my plant, and it usually tells me to water it every 3-4 weeks. Should I put some earthworm humus on the top of the soil? I’m live in Chicago and we are in winter right now🥶
Very good video 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Hi! The trunk of my runner is turning yellow. Any suggestions?
Hello , I am enjoying your videos about Rubber Plants. I purchased 3 potted plants from Home Depot and they are thriving with new top growth however I see that a leaf will occasionally drop from the bottom. I am not sure if this normal nature dropping older leaves or if it is my sometimes overly fussing over them. I had plants inside but moved them to bright indirect light outside where temps are presently 80-90 with night time temps to low 70's. The outdoors is provides much better light than my indoors can provide due to location. Any comments or thoughts to help me would be appreciated.

Hi Hector, Thanks so much for watching. I am glad the video was helpful to you. If you think that you have taken care of all the necessary requirements of the plant still the leaves occasionally drop then it could be natural drop, older and mature leaves tend to fall and new growth comes. Nothing much to worry about. But if many leaves are falling then there could be some reason behind it. Frequent change in position, temperature, lighting etc also causes plant stress which can cause leaf drop.
Thank you for your video. My rubber plant leaves are dropping and falling off. Do you think I should replant it?
@Homemakr
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Hana, i would suggest you first check what is causing leaf drop. Is it over watering or underwatering and then act accordingly. If the cause is overwatering then you can repot. But if its under watering then there is no need to repot. You can just maintain regular watering.
I have a pretty dark green rubber tree and one or two of the leaves has a lot of dimples in it like something is eating on it. But I don't see any pest. Is that normal to have little type of dimples
Hi, may I know why some leaves on my rubber plant have cracks 🙏
Hey! First of all I'd like to thank you for the video. Although, I can't really compare my issue with my ruby ficus elastica to anything in the video. Maybe the curly and droopy leaves. So I got my ruby from from a local store, it was planted in a mini-pot and was ready to be planted into a bigger pot. It has about 6 leaves, the bigger ones being 4-5 cm long and the plant itself reaching around 10 cm without taking the root system in consideration. I've planted it in a 10cm diameter clay pot with a large drainage hole. I've since watered the plant twice apart from the water when I repotted it the first time. I planted it around 2,5 weeks ago, in a north-facing window. Now; the bottom 3 leaves are looking dry, almost like it has got some wrinkles. They are also see-through, I can put my finger behind the leaf and see it behind the leaf. The top leaves doesn't have that issue. The leaves have also lost a bit of it's gloss and turned into more of a bright, grey-ish green compared to my other leaves. I don't have any brown or yellow spots on the plant. Only a slight curve/curl on the leaves. As a side note, I have had a variegated ficus elastica plant in the same north-facing window for about a year now and it's really thriving. My room temperature is around 20-22 degrees celsius and I regularly spray my leaves with non-chloric water. Since it's summer I've had my window open for some nights and temperature would've dropped to a lowest 15 degrees. I have only given my ruby liquid fertilizer once, the last time I watered it - that was yesterday so the effects might take a while to show. Is there anything I am missing or should I just stay patient? Mattias
@Homemakr
Жыл бұрын
Hi Mattias, Thanks for your comment. Check if the humidity in the room is fine. Make sure that the plant is watered as needed because of the hot weather as you mentioned. If its only lower one or two leaves, don't worry much because sometime, the leaves grow old and fall off. But if the plant is showing new growth, it should be fine. fertilize during spring and summer once monthly. Your plant should recover soon.

@@Homemakr Thank you! It has actually just sprouted a new leaf and looks quite healthy, apart from the lower leaves.
Thank you for being so detailed. Now my problem with mine is it grew so beautul for half the year in my home. But I think I over watered my rubber tree now there is no beautiful leaves growing. I think it stumped from my foolishness. I am so upset how can my plant start growing leaves again? also there are new leaves trying to open up but they don't it has been several months and they have not opened. They opened up so beautiful during the winter in my home. Do I cut them off since there is no progress? My rubber tree still have bushy leaves by they are turning a little yellow on some what am I doing wrong? Do I repot them in a bigger pot and put fresh soil? right now they are in a 14" pot maybe I should use a 20"? They are about 17" long. I now have them on my balcony for the last three months since it is July here in NY. Please help me!!

Hi Darlene, Thank you for your comment, and sorry for the late reply. I am not sure what is the condition of your plant now but if it has not recovered yet then I would suggest you repot your plant in fresh soil and pot. Make sure not to overwater this time. your plant will recover soon. Also if the plant is not showing much growth then try pruning the tip of the plant. this will initiate side growth and make your plant more bushy. Best of Luck.👍🙂
My ficus tineke is on a south facing window it has a leaf that hasn’t unfurled si ce I received 3 month ago. Should I wait till it dries out and see if it’s root bound?
@Homemakr
Жыл бұрын
Hi Sandy, I think you should try to check all the conditions the plant needs to stay healthy such as light, water, temperature, pest attack etc. If all the boxes are ticked then either wait for the leaf to dry or just prune it so plant can give out new growth. You can check if the plant is root bound and repot if you think its root bound.
My variegated rubber plant has whitish glue type thing in new leaves which doesn't let it grow..how to treat that?

How to get burgundy ficus more purple red color? Some searches say more light and some says less light. I am confused.

Lack of sufficient Bright indirect light can cause the leaves to turn green. Ficus Burgundy prefers Bright indirect light.
I have ruby rubber plant which has dark glossy leaves with a dark red line through the middle. I used to keep it in my balcony which is facing west and it got a lot of afternoon sun and was thriving. Recently we moved and I kept it indoors for the past 6 month in a bright east facing window. I noticed the leaves are not as glossy anymore and they are dull and it has lost the red tint on the center line of the leaf. What do i need to do to restore its glossy shine and red color? Thanks

Hi Nadacik, You can try bringing your plant outside in morning or evening sun for fresh air. Plants get used to the spot where have been for long time and changing the spot can cause change stress which can affect the look and growth of the plant. Either let your plant stay in and slowly get used to the indoor spot. Or move it where it was before.
My rubber tree plant has one leaf with these three yellow spots. Picture this said it was Brown spot and to trim the leaf affected.
@Homemakr
8 ай бұрын
Brown or yellow spots can indicate bacterial infection. Could be due to Lack of proper air circulation or too much humidity or overwatering. You can trim the affected leaves to prevent the spread to other healthy leaves.
My tineke has given me two new leaves that are more light green in color along the edges than the white variegated outside color is should have. What am i doing wrong?
@Homemakr
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gabrielle, this seems like Lighting issue. Variegated plants need enough of bright indirect light. Lack of enough light slowly turns the variegated leaves into a whole green (could be light green or dark green). Also make sure you do not place them too much bright direct light otherwise the leaves can get burnt or crispy brown edges. Place your tineke in a spot where it receives balanced bright indirect light for atleast 5-6 hours a day.
My leaves are coming out deformed. Should I cut those off?
My plant leave curl up and have burned marks on the side of the leaves but not that much, what is the mistake i am doing ??
Can these plants be put in water only washing off the dirt from roots
@Homemakr
4 ай бұрын
Yes, They can be placed in water after washing away the soil from the roots. But for optimum growth, you must repot them.
My plant had an accident this summer. My 4 year old nephew fell down the steps and grabbed my plant. He was safe but all the leaves on the bottom broke or came off. It's not branching at all. It looked some healthy now she looks kinda sad. Top leaves no bottoms. I was told to notch it where the leaves came off and cut the top. The top only has leaves. Ugh idk what to do to help.
@Homemakr
Жыл бұрын
Hi there, I am sorry to hear about your plant. The bottom leaves will not come back unfortunately but the plant will continue showing new leaves and growth once it settles after the accident. Cutting the tip of the plant will initiate new side growth for the plant to look bushier.

It's concerning that your rubber plant is losing healthy green leaves, and I understand your frustration. Several factors can contribute to rubber plant leaf drop, and diagnosing the exact cause can be a bit challenging without a physical inspection. However, I can offer some common reasons for this issue: Environmental Stress: Sudden changes in environmental conditions can stress the plant. If the lighting, temperature, or humidity changed while you were on your trip, this could be a reason. Overwatering: Even if the soil is not waterlogged, overwatering can lead to root rot. This could affect the plant's ability to take up water, leading to leaf loss. Make sure the pot has good drainage, and water the plant only when the top inch of soil feels dry. Root Issues: Check the roots for signs of rot, pests, or damage. Healthy roots are essential for nutrient and water uptake. Repotting your plant with fresh, well-draining soil can help if root issues are present. Nutrient Deficiency: Rubber plants need essential nutrients. A lack of proper fertilization could cause leaf drop. Pests: Inspect your plant for common pests like spider mites, mealybugs, or scale insects. They can weaken the plant and cause leaf drop. Low Humidity: Rubber plants appreciate higher humidity. If the air is very dry, especially in winter, consider using a humidity tray or a room humidifier.
The new leaves on my rubber tree are small. Help, PLEASE.😢
My ficus turned all of a sudden, yellow and droopy. But, like in 2 days, the whole plant. Not one by one. Roots are really healthy, no sign of root rot.... No spots. Bright indirect light no bugs... I can not realize what happened this time! I water more or less once a week now that is spring. I put it closer to the windows and had 2 days of some sun, and now. Put it back on its place. But all yellow now 😢
