Top 10 Reasons to Attend the United States Military Academy at West Point

Hey team,
If you are interested in learning more colleges and where to attend after high school, then I would encourage you to check out Service Academies (the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy).
They are prestigious universities where you can obtain a Bachelor of Science upon graduation. Did I mention they are fully-funded?
In this video, I cover the top ten reasons (in no particular order) to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point.

    Hey man! Its awesome that you're looking for opportunities when you're in 9th grade. Something that West Point looks for is diversity in ECs and leadership positions that you are passionate about doing. Honestly, as a 9th grader, dabble in what clubs and opportunities you have around and choose something you're passionate about and something you're willing to work the extra mile for. That surely shines on any ones application. -West Point cadet of 2024

    Is it a must have to do a sport for your application to be competive? Also would jrotc be considered a sport when you fill in the application?

  • @edwarddouglaspierce

    @edwarddouglaspierce

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes for many reasons: (1) General Douglas MacArthur pushed for major improvements in the physical fitness and intramural athletic programs in response to the increasing physical demands of modern warfare and said, “Every cadet an athlete" (2) you must pass the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) to gain an appointment, (3) you will be physically tested upon reporting to West Point and can be dismissed if you fail, (4) while at West Point, your cum GPA includes academics, leadership and your physical aptitude. Regarding JROTC. While that is an excellent item on your application, I do not believe that it will replace a sport. You should call admissions and ask. That said, I have known a number of candidates that did not have sports in their schools and sought out ways to compete regionally in sports like fencing and orienteering and received varsity letter credits.

It was also ranked #1 in the country by Forbes in 2009. Your move. Both are excellent schools, but direct leadership exists in the Army and Marines much more than the Navy and Air Force. They all exist in the same spectrum as far as academics go. Different branches of the military have different missions and job opportunities. The Army and Marines are more leadership focused while the Navy and Air Force are more system focused. You want to fly jets: Navy or Air Force; you want to lead troops in the Infantry: Army or Marines. There is plenty of overlap, but the cultures are different because their warfighting missions are different.

    True, but those that have the qualifications to be accepted, attend, and "survive" West Point have many other options in society. There needs to be a carrot at the end of that stick or someone might as well enlist because enduring basic training is a much easier path. I wouldn't trade my experiences as a cadet and officer for anything, but at 17 I needed to make a fruitful decision for my future.
