As a California native and someone who went to Disneyland almost every year as a child, it was always clear to me that it was Walt Disney’s vision and therefore the most authentic and best Disney experience. Magic Kingdom always felt like an awkward copy of the real thing. But the combo of Epcot, AK, and HS at Disneyworld is ultimately more exciting for how much more it can offer than the Disneyland Resort. So for pure entertainment value, DW > DL, even tho DL is probably still the best Disney park.

  • @tiannam117

I don’t agree, Epcot is one of the most boring and skezophrenic of all the Disney parks, Disney Studios used to be good, but now without the great movie ride, the Studios Tour, “MGM”, I don’t even know what it is, Animal Kingdom is nice to be honest and I really enjoy Typhoon Lagoon, but from all the US Disney Parks Disneyland is number 1 and DCA number 2 for me without a doubt and I think that the two DL parks beat the four WDW parks. Besides, you don’t have to get on long bus rides to get from one place to another at Disneyland.

Fun Fact: If you add up all of the rides at Disney World’s 4 parks, and add up all of the rides at Disneyland’s 2 parks, believe it or not, Disneyland Resort has MORE RIDES than Walt Disney World Resort. Considering WDW is more about quantity and Disneyland is all about quality, I find this fact extremely interesting and relevant to this discussion.

I think most people are surprised that I choose Disneyland Resort over Disney World. Yes, Disney World is bigger and so is the castle, but at Disneyland my family just gets a hotel room on Harbor Blvd and walk to Disneyland, DCA and Downtown Disney. It’s so convenient, the parks feel more authentic and you can’t beat the weather compared to Florida. DW is just exhausting. The bus schedules, massive parking lots, constant walking and waiting, not to mention it’s hot, humid and wet. I miss Expedition Everest and Flight of Passage, but most rides are the same or better at Disneyland.

I grew up going to Disneyland because my grandparents lived just outside of Anaheim, we could see the fireworks from Disneyland from their backyard. I just finally got to go to Disney World earlier this year for my 31st birthday, and while I loved it a lot (Animal Kingdom and Epcot especially), it will never beat Disneyland for me. As you've said and many others have said, the feel of being at Disneyland, the magic of standing where Walt once stood, is indescribable and breath taking. It brings tears to my eyes. I can't wait to share that magic with my daughter one day when she's a little older.

Tony Baxter said it BEST...Disneyland is "charming" Walt Disney World is WOW! When something is "charming" you want to hug it. When something is WOW! You are more in "awe" of it. At Disneyland, you can still ride in the front with driver or in rear with that wrap around glass. When they were putting in Tron, I secretly wished that the dinos from UoE would be placed in a tunnel before you got back to Main Street. DL RR has some really cool tunnels as well. The TTC has a 1970's "feel" Disneyland's entry does NOT feel dated. Disneyland DOES have a distinct "feel" I had the honor to take 2 trips one yr. DL in Oct. (seeing holiday overlays) & WDW in Nov. (with Christmas decorations) Lovely to see the differences.

I grew up in SoCal during the 90s/00s, so I may be a bit biased towards Disneyland. While I've been to WDW a few times, I felt like WDW was more like a vacation resort where you need to pay thousands of dollars to get a full experience. Disneyland, on the other hand, is more like a theme park where you can do everything in a day or two for a few hundred; yet you will want to come back again and again no matter how many times you've visited.

The ending encapsulates why I can't wait to get to travel to the west coast and visit Disneyland perfectly. It's the one Walt made. He experienced it, he tweaked it personally, he walked around there. I'm actually not a huge Disney person, but I have so much love for theme parks and Walt Disney is hands down the godfather of the modern theme park experience. I respect the man, what he accomplished, and how big he dreamed. It would be a travesty for me to not experience Walt's park firsthand at some point.

I'm born and raised with Disneyland throughout my childhood to adulthood, i wouldn't have it any other way. I believe that since Disneyland is more compact it's easier to navigate everywhere despite not going on every ride within a day. There's plenty to see as well as taking in the atmosphere of each land. Not to mention all of it's history as being Walt's first park. It's very much like a time capsule of walking in the same footsteps as many those who were present on it's first opening day. It's an experience unlike any other. Even while the park is always changing, the feeling of Disney never leaves (except for the money i've spent). So i may be bias cuz i can't travel out of state, I still believe Disneyland is its own special park that i hold dear. That and DLR has a better Fantasyland than WDW lol.

I grew up going to Disneyland, but the first time I went to Disney World was when I became a cast member there. I cannot tell you how shook I was to find out that you cannot just walk across an esplanade to hop between the parks in Florida. That's so much work and time to get on a vehicle to park hop. I'll take the minute-tops-long walk across a courtyard any day. Also, on the character note - my favorite character moment to this day was back before Galaxy's Edge was built and they still had the petting zoo in Frontierland. My friend and I were leaning on the fence looking at goats, and Woody randomly joined in on the action. In that corner of the park alone, they would have 6 or so characters wondering around, and then when it was time for them to go, 6 different characters would come out in their place and hang out and play. Belle and the Beast decided to ride the Carousel with us one day. In Florida, lines are crucial for character safety. Otherwise, they get mobbed. There's a lot more respect for the characters at Disneyland.

You can tell that Magic Kingdom is just a copy with slight changes made for capacity reasons, and it feels less personal due to missing a lot of early history. Disney is fantasy, and appreciation of the depth of time has always been one of fantasy's core themes.

you made a good point, when you mentioned the train..... they say "it all started with a mouse"....maybe so, but disneyland started with a train set....because walt wanted a better place than his backyard to give people rides on his trains. before there was WED,there was RETLAW productions....(walter spelled backwards) and things like the mark twain, the tiki room, the monorail, and of course his beloved trains were not owned by WED enterprises....they were owned by RETLAW...these were walts personal toys....and were not on WEDs payroll....at any time, walt could show up,and decide he was gonna take a lap ,and give the engineers a break....and sinces hes the big boss,no one was gonna argue with him. you can imagine what it must have been like, going to disneyland, and having walt disney himself giving you the grand circle tour. i would submit, that everything within the berm was designed by disney himself,to be his 5/8 scale model train layout. and this is why its important to ride the train when you go to disneyland first.....to see every land as walt wanted you to see it...from his train set.

Disneyland is just peak Disney Magic. (And I’ve been to all of them except for Shanghai.) It’s hard to explain but it’s the only Disney park I’d be willing to pay money for just to sit on a bench under a tree around the hub while eating a Mickey premium bar. Having two generations of Disney Imagineers in my family and being surrounded by Imagineers all my life, every single one has said that Disneyland is their favorite park. It embodies Walt’s vision the most. They did also say that EPCOT is a favorite too but it’s good for being a “theme park” but not “Walt’s theme park”. I think they would disagree that WDW is “the brains” of the parks. They’ve always talked about WDW being more of the Walmart or Costco of Disney parks. You go there to get everything you need but not anything in particular will be too intimate.

One of the reasons Disneyland has a different feel is through their characters. Many of them are actors, cast through Dramalogue, waiting for their break and working a job that brings in the rent. While there are actors in Florida, it's a whole different thing in the conglomerate that is Disney World, as opposed to the cozier Disneyland park. These are actors that are happy to stay in character all day, chatting with guests and improvising.

Technically the hm in DL is a elevator not actually stretching like the WDW version.

@@derekmiles2543 At DL the stretching room ceiling moves up and the floor (elevator) moves down but at WDW just the ceiling moves up for the stretching effect. At WDW the guests don't need to be lowered to go under the R.R. berm. I do like the Jungle Cruse better at WDW.

Even as a Florida resident who only went to Disneyland as a wee tot and don't have any memories of it whatsoever and has a sizeable bias to WDW I gotta say you brought up some interesting points about the pros of DL. Cause even as someone who's (remembered) Disney park experience is exclusively on the east coast from what I've heard about the unique features of DL I've always got the impression that DL has this unique... *specialness* that WDW simply doesn't have; and this video definitely added to that notion but you also added some additional good points as well!

Hey! First, our family really enjoys your stuff. We notice you, like us, like the Polynesian resort. We are also with you when it comes to the Haunted Mansion, Pirates, and the People Mover. However, why don’t you ever cover The Enchanted Tiki Room?! My 86 yr old mother was a professional whistler. Growing up we would sit in the back row and she could whistle the soundtrack. She did the same for her grandchildren, one of which is now a music major in college. Haven’t seen your next follow up video. However, The Tiki Room at Disneyland is the best. Did I mention we have family in Hawaii too. We are quite fond of the Polynesian culture as a whole. And…we are all haoles! What do ya’ say?! “In the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room!”

Life long Disney Worlder here. Lived in Florida for 30+ years. Went to DLR this July for the first time and you hit the nail on the head with this one. Bengal BBQ is amazing. The Fantasyland dark rides remind me of MK when I was a kid. The park just feels homey. Somethings I didn’t care for, like how Tomorrowland seems to be on top of the castle and there are bad sight lines. I didn’t like how I could see the back of Small World from my hotel/the highway. Overall WDW has more to see and do but it’s so busy you need more time to appreciate it. DLR is a true joy to visit and I look forward to going back!

So I saw your previous video about DW and loved it...disagreed with you but saw your points. Years ago i worked at DL as a college kid. I met an Imagineer..not sure who it was. I asked him which HE preferd and he did n ot miss a beat..DW was his answer....I was taken back and asked why. He said size. He told me they were not limited by the land they could work with... Well i had to give him that. He also said...that being the case..you just cannot excape the FEEL of Disneyland..it was different. That is what I am saying too..the feel of DL is why me..now an old guy of 68 still goes there becasue of the FEEL i can get no where else!

Loved how you finished with what makes Disneyland have an upper hand on all the parks. Being that I'm a fan of the history of Disney I can totally agree. Disneyland is what I consider the Authentic Experience and WDW the Improved Experience all from the learnings of DL. I love WDW for it's innovation and the whole creation of the Utilidor for MK. Even the story behind how and why it was created! Miss the days of just roaming around down there my CP days BUT! That can't even compare to being in the very park that the man himself actually created and stepped foot in! It's a whole different vibe and lets not forget that DL set a few historical first that changed the world as we know it and inspired the future of show and ride attractions as we experience them today!

I've been to Disney World twice, in 2021 and 2022, and am going to Disneyland for the first time this summer.. followed by Disney World for the third time later in the year. Looking forward to experiencing both and comparing them myself. I'm most excited to experience Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean

WDW’s Space Mountain tracks predate the Giacchino one. I’m pretty sure when Giacchino wrote the tracks for DL he referenced motifs from the WDW version, instead of the other way around.

Disneyland is much more dense as a park. With so many little experiences you can do to pass the time I was walking around and found a little quarter machine that replays scenes from hunchback of notre dame. I walked to galaxies edge and ran right into Mandalorian and grogu. I sat on a bench and Belle walked up and said hi to me.

I get asked which I prefer a lot. I wear my Disney nerd flag proudly, I have been to both resorts several times, been on two Disney cruises, I was DL annual passholder for one year, and was a CP at WDW. For me it comes down with how long you are going and who with. If you are going 5 plus nights and all you are doing is Disney stuff (Universals, Knott's, trips to the beach, etc.) I'd go WDW. The vast amount of offerings they have beyond the parks makes this the place to go for an extended trip. You can do everything at the Disneyland parks and Downtown Disney in 4 days fairly easily, without even park hopping. Going less than 5 days you can really feel like you left items on the table at WDW, and you are not going to be able to do everything. The second part who are you traveling with. If you have littles, think people too short to ride a Disney coaster, Disneyland has more for them to do, there is far less walking, everything is closer together, park hopping is indescribably easier to do, and getting back to your hotel, on property or off, is probably going to be faster. Now if your with adults that want to enjoy an adult beverage, have greater levels of patience, and will get more out of what EPCOT and DHS has to offer that might be the better option for you regardless of length of trip. There also other things to consider cost of travel, lodging, etc. But these, believe it or not, are just a few of my thoughts. With all that said if I was told I can only visit one Disney park one last time and never be able to go to any Disney park ever again, I would have to choose Disneyland Park. The atmosphere it has, the knowing that this is something Walt was a part of, is something that truly should be experienced.
