Heck yeah, FF IX! It's also my most favorite Final Fantasy game because it strikes the perfect balance of whimsy and seriousness. You hit the nail on the head about it giving a great sense of adventure. Not to mention, the graphics have held up pretty well since Square didn't aim for realistic aesthetics unlike 7 and 8.

I have actually had ridge racer type 4 on my radar for a while now! I really need to find a copy and buckle down to play it haha. Never actually heard of soul blade before but you think it would give Tekken 3 a run for its money? Gameplay looked pretty good.
