We had a hamster for a bit, R2-D2, the little sucker was Houdini on steroids though. One day he got out and we could never find him and that was the end of our hamster empire. We’ve always had dogs and horses, added chickens ducks and cats a few years back

I’m allergic to cats and I have bunnies. They make me sneeze all the time. Also, if you’re thinking of getting a bunny make sure you get them spayed or neutered!

I am allergic to cats and bunnies for me are even worse, but I love both.

Guinea pigs are high maintenance if you take care of them properly. So are rabbits. I don't like people buying them just to try to teach kids "responsibility". It like having a kid to save a marriage.

What about pet rocks? Their low maintenance, and are hyper allergenic . Perfect for the lazy person who’s allergic to fur.

Me and my husband got bunnies two years ago since he's allergic to cats and I'm allergic to most dogs and it was a wonderful decision. They're so wonderful and we love them to death!

I’ve had hamsters, fish, and kitties. All of them make wonderful pets. I would love to adopt all these critters, except my arachnophobia is pretty severe. So that’s a hard pass on the spiders.

I grew up with cats, dogs, birds, fish, guinea pigs and snakes. A zoo. No wonder I love animals But parakeets. Gotta get the lovers together or one might kill the other. My mom's female starved the male while he was trying to court her :'(

Honestly, I'm not really allergic to most pets like Cats, Dogs, Hamsters, Poultry and Rabbits respectively. With that said, I'm not allergic to anything except for pollen.

My husband got me a pet fish for my first wedding anniversary. It's a lot of work to clean out the fish bowl/aquarium, but it's very relaxing and interesting to watch fish swim in their environment. 🐟🐠 My brother had a bunny for a pet when he was a kid, and he had a pet snake when he was in his 20's.🐍🐇🐰

To all my fellow Australians, remember that hamsters are illegal in Australia. They're listed as a pest and apparently you face huge fines even trying to import them.

I legit was just talking to my Mammaw about possible being a allergic to my puppy and you posted this!! XD Coincidence, I THINK NOT! (I rather deal with a stuffy nose then get rid of my puppy, he is my baby)

I've owned and bred Basenjis for the past 24 years. They are very clean and rarely shed, but are not for the average dog owner. They are somewhat hypoallergenic, although many clean themselves like cats so people reactive to saliva should be advised. They do not bark (not that they are silent) and don't ever get 'doggy breath'. Like greyhounds, Basenjis are 40 mph couch potatoes.

I was sure ferrets would be on the list. They're really smart and have lots of personality.

I LOVE cats and I would be devastated if I was allergic to them. I HATE tarantulas and spiders

I have Corydora catfish which are very fun to watch. You have to buy them in groups of 3 or more of the same variety (6 or more is best) so they they will shoal together. They rush up to gulp air once and a while. Because they are bottom feeders you can fill the rest of the tank with a docile top swimmer like a variety or two of tetras.

I've had chickens as pets for several years and love them!

Growing up we had cats, dogs, turtles, a hermit crab, a hamster, and fish. Oh yeah and my grandma and her siblings had a snake when they were younger. Now I have a dog and she's hypoallergenic so my cousin's that are usually allergic are perfectly fine around her.

Caveat: While it's not super common it is possible to also be allergic to other mammals and birds like those listed. If other mammals are not an issue for you, I might also recommend rats or ferrets. Both of those animals are quite social and intelligent and act like dogs or cats in a lot of ways. If you're strictly limited to things without fur or feathers, I'd suggest looking into reptiles. The options mentioned here are good, especially bearded dragons. But you could also look into other lizards or snakes. Skinks and geckos generally tend to be relatively easy to care for and handle. Tegus are also a great choice if you want a reptile that will act more "like a dog" than other reptiles and don't mind that it's a bit higher maintenance and larger.

I had a bearded dragon and a parakeet both passed on my bearie in 2015 and my parakeet last year I miss them dearly both were great pets

just an FYI for allergy sufferers: if you're allergic to cats & dogs, it is quite possible that you will be allergic to other furry animals as well, especially rabbits. & some people can be allergic to feathers also. My mom had parakeets while I was growing up & it was my job to clean their cage. I used to take the bottom off & put the cage into the sink to clean it with the birds still in it. I'd use the sprayer to run lukewarm water over it & the parakeets loved to take showers under it. They'd close their eyes & dance around in the water & fluff their feathers all up. It was real cute -- but I hated that their loud chatting always woke me up way too early each morning. lol

I love my Ren Ren more than anything! Hubby and I are both allergic to cats. We also live in an apartment. So, rabbit it is! I’m a sucker for lops.

I LLOOOVVVEE dogs. Cats are okay, and rabbits/bunnies as well. But I find it (don’t ask me why) having odd to have a rabbit/bunny as a pet.

I love tarantulas their so cute I’m thinking of getting one as a pet😍🥰😊

Uh, don’t know about that. I am allergic to cats and dogs, but adopted a guinea pig who had no where else to go. I am fine with him.

If you get pet rabbits make sure its two since they can't live alone

Hamsters are so amazing! But they are definitely not for small children who cannot yet respect their boundaries, and the examples of cages shown are absolutely horrifying (same for the guinea pigs and parakeets btw). Hamsters might be low maintenance once you have everything you need, but preparing for them requires enough space and money for a big enough home as these tiny cages are way too small. A home of 1m x 0,5m is what you should be able to provide, female hamsters sometimes need even more space than this. Also, an active hamster should be provided with a safe run area. Bar chewing is a behaviour disorder commonly seen with hamsters held in too small cages. But if you take care of them well these little furballs are the perfect companions for older children and working adults. ❤

My daughters giant turtle escaped from the yard. Lost for two days it was found six houses down. There are ponds and a lake and woods near it’s home.

Tried the rabbits it died in 1-2 weeks because they can’t handle loud noises and also need cage cleaning like 2 times a week

The thing is, you can be allergic to any pet or animal. Sometimes you get lucky and it's a matter of bedding or toy type (they still have latex pet toys), but all marsupials and mammals have dander and anything with a tongue will like itself somewhere. It's saliva that gets a lot of people. If you are a highly allergic person, you may have to trial run a pets because allergy testing may not be specific enough.

re: rabbits - NEVER feed them any light colored lettuce, especially iceberg lettuce or wild lettuce. It causes diarrhea and kill them. Let's see - my family has had fish, lizards (but not bearded dragons - yet), guinea pigs, turtles, chickens, ducks, turkeys, rabbits, a parakeet, a hamster, as well as a snakes, a gerbil, mice, a skunk, a monkey and the usual dogs and cats.

Rabbits are such wonderful goofy pets but they are high maintenanced

I am so sorry for you. I am the allergy queen but I adopted a guinea pig and we are fine. Of course, I have also taken allergy shots my whole life.

I’m tired of getting 🐠, I’m not getting tarantula; my sister and I hate 🕷, my best friend had a guinea pig, 🐢 r 🥰 but not for me, my best friend had a 🐰, I don’t think so for poultry, I used to be friends with someone who had a parakeet, and my friend had a 🥰 little 🐹. But who wants a bearded 🐉 or a 🐖 as a pet?

I am not alergic, just other peoples kill my cats they hit with their cars ... even i bought reflective colar for my cats and still they died, witch its almost imposible because they can bee seen from sidewalk i live in a very flat area 5 m from every side to the road they can see the cat from far away, they get killed intentionaly. In 4 years died 3 of my cats, now i learned that its usless to replace them every year ... Today my cat died with his friend (neighbours cat) both of them was flat.

Mine mostly eat wild bugs,never had an issue,that is mostly a myth.

Most of these are rubbish pets and no way as replacement for a cat or dog. Either want nothing to do with people or drop dead over the smallest thing. Ferrets, rats and miniature horses/ Shetland ponies all 1000% better than anything on the list.

@@sockruhtease Personally I find guinea pigs smell way worse than ferrets plus they are never ending pooping machines. At least ferrets can be toilet trained a with good diet, neutering and a air purifier smells not that bad.
