@busch77 . . . Ah! It's good to see that you saw her potential that got derailed with her being a brand. I've always contended that if she had spent more time behind the wheel of a Cup racer to craft her driving/racing skills, rather than marketing herself as a brand . . . with all the distractions that went along with it, she'd have consistent top 10 potential. Had Danica gotten her start in an earlier era of NASCAR, I feel that the team owner would have laid down the law on on her commitments: 'You either commit to being a full-time driver without the marketing distractions; or you can leave to pursue your marketing career, *but you have to choose which it is gonna be! As I won't allow you to split your time between driving and marketing.'* Sadly, with the sponsorship monies that drivers can bring into race teams over the past two decades, the role of the team owner dictating the rules to the drivers has greatly diminished.

@@bloqk16 Danica did exactly what she should have been doing. She wasn't that great of a driver, so she made her money and got her sponsorships where she could-- with her looks. She knew what people wanted from her, and she gave it to them. Smart as hell if you ask me.

He's the reason Loves is still with the team.

She should’ve started in Trucks for 1 season, 2 seasons in Nationwide(at the time), and then Cup. Development for the open wheel guys was nonexistent IMO. Juan and AJ were special cases where they wrecked a few cars but showed flashes of talent in non A- to A+ equipment. I always thought Tony and Gene used her for money especially since SHR literally just got started 4 years prior to her Daytona 500 pole and they leaned on Hendrick for support all the way until they switched to Ford in 2017. Even on your list, most of the guys you have on there just didn’t get the proper development and were PUSHED to the moon.

I am surprised that Juan Pablo Montoya isn't on this list considering the hype that surrounded him when he left McLaren in the middle of the F1 season to enter NASCAR in 2006. He was part of the open wheel invasion that happened in NASCAR in the mid 2000's and for the most part, many of those drivers struggled in NASCAR and he was no exception. Apart from 2 wins at Sears Point & Watkins Glen, Montoya struggled and it didn't help that Chip Ganassi had poor equipment.

Danica Patrick boosted ratings, attracted new fans, sponsors loved her, she was a master at marketing, and she was the face of NASCAR for the passive fan. If you can sell product, your performance becomes an afterthought. NASCAR isn't about racing, its high speed advertising. The sport needs another Danica like personality to generate interest outside the die hard race fans.

@@polycube868 IMO the passive fans would follow Jeff Gordon and Danica because of their PR outside NASCAR. To move the needle a driver has to be multi-channel and recognized outside the sport. Todd Kluever: I know he’s not a bust in the trucks, but Roush decided he was ready. They just rushed him up. Trevor Bayne: I think the only reason why he’s a bust is because Roush Racing was declining at that time, but at least he was able to get a win. Scott Speed: Yes, he is NOT speed. I like to say he was slow. Like Kluever, Speed was rushed way, WAY too early. Steve Wallace: I know he didn’t perform as great, but I have to give him positivity. He had a 7th place points finish in 2009 and had 2 other top 10 points finishes in the nationwide series. JJ Yeley: Like Kluever and Speed, Yeley was rushed way too early. Here’s something he can do: he gets top 15’s and 20’s with underfunded teams in the Xfinity series. Dylan Kwasniewski: It’s just a shame he was cut. Also he actually got an Obaika Racing to the top 10, but it was cut short. Rob Moroso: He was pretty good in Xfinity, but he made a poor decision. Shane Hmiel: He deserved better than what he had. He almost won at IRP in 2003 or 2004. Casey Atwood: He literally almost won 2 races in 2001. He got shipped to a bad team. Almost got a win with Fitz, but they thought he was bad. Danica Patrick: Yeah, no surprise…..

Busch Series...Rob Moroso raced in the Busch Series. There was no Xfinity then. That was back when NASCAR was awesome. I know it was narrated as Xfinity for simplicity, but there is a demarcation line between Busch/Winston Cup and the corporate sponsor of the moment nowadays. That line represents when racing still held some allegiance to its roots and when it sold out its roots for a clean, sanitized, boring image it now has

Number two, if you are going to do a video do your own list, not just a recycled condensed version of Darians videos.

The main issue with all of these drivers is that they were rushed when they weren't ready. Roush was scrambling to replace Mark Martin, Speed had Red Bull money, Steve Wallace had the last name, Danica had the hype. Moroso had all the potential but threw it all away. Hmiel was one of the most naturally gifted racers ever, but couldn't stay clean. Atwood later admitted he couldn't handle the media side and the attention, and Yeley was rushed too quickly and yet somehow still keeps finding rides...

That's a little unfair on Atwood. He was showing real potential in the 19, had some good runs, and wasn't horrible his first season.. then Ray pulled the rug out from under him and he never recovered. If Ray had been patient, which wasn't a thing then because if you weren't "Jeff Gordon" you were considered not a good driver, which is terrible. People tend to forget it took Dale Jarrett and Mark Martin and others a decent amount of time to get into a good ride, let alone get their first win. Patience with developing a driver was not a thing because of Gordon for a good while.

He introduces Toyota to Cup and gets busted for cheating in pre race inspection before his inaugural season even starts? That’s quite a black eye for MWR and Toyota. Add that to 2 wins in 40 gazzilion starts and I’d say that’s a bust. Oh ….. and he’s not exactly a great pit reporter either.
