    Honorable mention for Dragonic Vanquisher VMAX You don’t know how many games I’ve cheesed IN TOURNAMENTS because my opponents didn’t know/didn’t remember that he existed

    One of the more unorthodox ways I ever saw someone played descendant was a good friend of mine. Most descendant decks pre ban usually run your typical lineup, 8 crit 4 draw and your usual staples of grade 1s and 2s. Not my friend. By virtue of calculation and the element of surprise, he used a 9 draw 3 crit build, which occasionally alternates between 8 draw 4 crit as well, with only 4/5 cards of it not being eradicators. Throw most opponents off by using the superior ride starter and his accomplices. Rushed the shit out of the opponent early (which was not exactly wise considering break rides are a thing). Superior ride early to gain a small card advantage, and then would ride vowing after and rinse and repeat. Basically, he build his deck to sustain hard while being aggressive in the early game. His rationale is to better position himself usually to corner his opponent for descendant skill rather than the utility of other cards. Pretty much he destroyed that shop tournament and came in 2nd, by virtue of how good descendant was and how unprepared others were against his unorthodox build, even in a round robin situation. Nobody could figure out why someone would ever use the lame superior ride instead of the grade 3 searcher. Thankfully, set 11 did not release an eradicator draw, which would have made his deck much more consistent. And it was a shame that bushiroad didn’t release his restriction even in the later season 3 sets. Descendant imo has a very hard time keeping up with cross rides and powercreep. I would say it would potentially struggle in set 13 onwards. Set 12’s cards were probably exposing the fringe of descedants’ capabilities. Nevertheless, there is still the fear factor knowing most narukami decks almost always have a copy or 2 of him just in case anything happened. Also, when’s the nubatama’s coming?

    Oh yes that's a baller combo for sure! VMAX was just too situational a unit to be as impactful as these other bosses, heck during his time it was still Voltage as the main win con like the boomer he is lol. That said, between you and me, VMAX will always be my personal fav, the effect and fights where he's played are hella hype.

    With my break at work almost over, I can't go as into it as I always do about how to apply this to D-Vermillion as I would love to. I'll keep it brief, what these videos, and especially the Kagero and Narukami ones, show that the greatest pressure bosses are almost never just doing one thing, unless that thing is in a toolbox like the G-Zone. Big Bang Knuckle Buster and Vermillion the blood are probably the best examples of what I mean in this video. On a surface level, they do one thing, hit everything hard. But then they get Cross ride buffs, and their on hit rear guard buffs. At least, those are my observations.

  • @godsman00

    @godsman00

    2 ай бұрын

    VEEEERY good observations! Every card has nuances and angles to them- both figuratively and literally lol- which influence their impact. Whether it be powerful abilities, combo, name/type consistency, or even X-factors, most high impact cards do multiple things. Even something as direct as Voltage was impactful because he was so ridiculously strong in his power gain relative to the ease of use and not caring about the opponent's board. That's already 3 factors and it's the most straightforward entry on the list 😂. This also applies to deck building principles, where the more uses a card has increases its value to a deck. So when deciding between a card that's good at multiple things and one that's great in one thing, it's likely better to go with the former unless the specialty of the latter touches on a core weakness of whatever deck you're building. Lol I'm rambling but your comment just kinda got me going ig 🤣

    This was satisfying to watch as someone who has been on the clan since BT06. Narukami's history has been that of ups and downs as it was good in late LB format and early BR format but dropped off hard in late BR Format as Eradicators just couldn't keep up with later top decks like Revengers/Chaos, became good again in later Legion Format through Brawlers which carried the clan to early G before it fell off hard once Harri and Nightrose came out due to Thunderstrike being such a bad keyword for its time. Subsequent G sets failed to bring the clan up to equal status as its peers (Set 9 Vanquisher got a cheesy burn wincon with VMAX but terrible rearguards, 12 Vanquisher was a few pieces short of being good...but was still just a worse Set 11 Blademaster) with the clan missing out on the madness that was end of G which is unfortunate as one last wave of support might have made Thunderstrike a Meta deck (and something decent for legacy format). It also didn't help that most of the stride pool for the clan was either powercrept (Conquest Dragon), slow to set up (Voltage/Closer Dragon), underpowered as a first Stride (VBuster) or terrible (everything before Stunverse) which was what ultimately led to the clan being mid for much of G. Although I will say that if you had told me back in 2018 after G had wrapped up that Dragonic Vanquisher Voltage would be the *only stride in my G-Zone* that I'd still be playing in 2024 consistently I'd have called you crazy. It's not often that a Stride from 2016 has actually gotten better with Vanguard's Power Creep rather than worse. Good job, Voltage. So because of how dirty NK got done by at the end of G I believe Bushiroad decided that they would (over)correct this during V and they did so in spades. Most of the clan's best cards come from V which took the good aspects of their G support (binding) and left out the bad aspects (Thunderstrike) and this also continued into the Premium Collections as after how utterly dogshit their first PC Stride was (NK and DP had the "honour" of being tied with "worst Stride of the set") alongside it's (at the time) infamously bad G-Zone Bushiroad again decided to overcorrect this by printing Stunverse Dragon and later Exterminate Dragon. Also being made Accel helped out bunches once Accel 2 was made as Gift 2 was a design choice that I think Bushiroad regrets to this day for what it enabled. With all that in mind I'm mixed on this as on one hand both of these strides are bonkers good and I'm not upset that my boys are a prominent meta deck in modern day Premium but on the other...I definitely would have liked to have *actually good strides* (and no VBuster was not a good stride. Not in the sense of what the clan needed at the time) during G format so that Vanquisher and Vanquisher Sparking could have sat at the big boy tables with the tier 1 decks of GNext and GZ. I've seen alot of people complain about Narukami being "handed" busted strides they didn't deserve and "becoming the spoiled child of VG" and all I can think is we've come a long way from the days of "Top 10 worst Vanguard Keywords with Narukami's Thunderstrike at Number 1!" because boy howdy it was *rough* trying to play Narukami in Stride Format. Although I will say at the cost of giving off manifest destiny vibes that I do get some enjoyment from watching people seethe and rage at how cracked the clan has become now considering it's state before V as it makes me feel rewarded for sticking it out after all this time. Mald harder I guess? I'm just glad I don't have to get to Thunderstrike 7 and do a handstand for a mediocre payoff anymore.

    Wow threw a lot of history there, pretty cool hearing the breakdown though! I'd say the experience you had more or less lines up to my understanding of the history of this clan so it's nice to get validation from a real vet of the clan. G was definitely a weird time for the deck, it felt a lot like Bermuda in that it spent pretty much the entire 2-3 year stint playing catch-up to the other decks (and even then the final G Bermuda set blew most of the format out of the water). Funnily enough, I'd say G Vanquisher hit its peak in G Set 12 format as this was just prior to the GZ paradigm shift and the added support did flesh out the strategy. Although it wasn't as strong as the big dog decks of the format (Blaster, ZTB, Bladewings, etc.) it was a very strong Tier 2 deck that could conceivably fight against some other notable strategies like Luard and Battle Sister. Vbuster may not have carried the strategy but, to its credit, the card provided a solid first stride option that built your TS, so it definitely has its place in Vanquisher. Once GZ hit Narus in general were left behind but a screenshot of set 12 format was a pretty good time for the deck outside of the absolute top tier. Overall a fascinating clan, more ups than downs and its current infamy is really funny given the mixed G performance like you were saying before. And interestingly this is kind of a trend I've noticed, as other Clans like Gold Paladin and Bermuda are absolutely infamous monster decks in V and P but for most of their G lifespan those clans did precious little. Maybe it's the universe putting a balance to everything lol

    VowingR V is a card I hate the most in V (more than gift stealer Chaos or gift spammer Majesty). Not only it shot your board but also your deck as well plus power up with cheapest cost for what it does(not even Eradicator rearguard to be locked). Extra with be able to restand whole front row rearguard which itself is Accel means more than 2 for sure. Combo with base form for more bind combo with VowingR 1st skill. On top all this stupidy things with Descendant and you're doomed.

    @@godsman00 So, the way it works is you need your opponent to have a MUCH larger field presence than you. When they attack your vanguard, you call Sky Guardian Supreme Dragon, Impede Dragon and use its ability. Provided the ENTIRE skill hits, you can then use Eradicator, First Thunder Dracokid's ability to shove it into the soul and superior ride Eradicator, Sweep Command Dragon from the top ten cards of your deck, shuffling afterward. This means that the unit being attacked is no longer on the field (it's in your soul now). Therefore, the attack is an automatic miss.
