15 years ago my boss bought a few bottles of wine and gave them out at a holiday party. He gave everyone the same bottle but mistakenly gave me a 1987 Opus One. I went home and drank it with my wife and thought...”damn, this is good”! Didn’t find out till that following Monday he mistakenly gave me the wrong bottle. He was a generous guy but not that the generous.

The price of wine once you get to a certain point has absolutely nothing to do with the quality - its to do with how rare the vintage is, the process of making it (how many people are employed, is it by hand or machine), and where the wine generally is from.

It was Malcom Forbes that bought the 1787 Chateau lafite that was allegedly owned by Thomas Jefferson. The Jeffersonian museum believes that he never owned the wines and some of the wines that were found in the same cache were deemed to be fake.

Yup those are the Rodenstock fake bottles. The engraving was made with an electric cutter, which naturally did not exist in 1787. Bill Koch owns the 4 fakes in the video and the 1787 Lafite was a fake Rodenstock too. The 1787 Margaux that got smashed might very well have been a fake too but could have been real.

Watching the video while having a glass of a common red dry 🍷... I know some rich people buy these veery expensive wines for investment, reselling them later on for huge amounts of money... I can't help thinking, though, that if one enjoys a glass of a much cheaper wine, but with the RIGHT person (-s), then he/she feels as if drinking the best wine in the world... We've got one life to live. Money ( business) is important, no doubt about it, but those moments when we allow ourselves to have a good chat and a smile over a glass of wine, are far more important than all the 💰 in the world.

The average bottle of Chateau Petrus only costs around $3500 because it's made in such limited quantities. Domaine de la Romanée Conti is $15000 per bottle for new vintages because a very tiny number of bottles are produced each year, but there is massive demand from rich consumers. It doesn't mean they are 5 to 50 times better than a bottle of Chateau Margaux (Premier grand cru classé), they are just much more rare and harder to obtain.

I was wondering why petrus not include.

The best wine is: Dingač, from the Pelješac peninsula in Croatia, the price $ 15 per bottle.

That's insane, I may drink wine occasionally. To go with what i eat. But if I had the money. I would never spend that amount of money.

Ridiculous prices for only a winedrink. In 1979 is was working in a liquor store and there wasn't so much interest for investing in wine. A bottle of 1976 Chateau Margaux, Margaux, Bordeaux area France (mentioned in this video). had a sellingprice of usd 10. (ten dollar). Why I didn't buy all those bottles. But remember it isn't the price that makes the quality of the wine. Much good quality wines you can buy for usd 40 per bottle and they are also special for that moment. 🙄🙄. So let the silly people pay such ridiculous high prices. Buy 1 bottle instead of a real house where a family can live.

This is a great video really expensive wine.

I have collected wine on and off for sometime now and have started to collect again for investment purposes. My most expensive bottle is a 1999 Chateau Haut-Brion with a not too distant in price bottle of Ridge Mont Bello 1999. The others that I have are a bit farther down the price spectrum. But it is fun in finding the rare ones that are in my price range.

I am sad that sangr'eal 1529 isnt on the list. Understandably it was the most prestigious wine available only for royal families during the time and was not sold to public. I love a good Italian Chianti, Valpolicella, Ripasso or Amarone. $20 - 28.00 Canadian. Excellent wine. We will go all out once in a while and get a Brunello in the $60 range. They are all taste fantastic. Billionaires gotta spend their money on something I guess. My wife's boss took us to Vegas and of course he brought his own wine specially flown in from France. Meh, tasted OK. I did not jump up and down, he was shocked. It is all a game to the elites at all level. Buy, drink and enjoy what pleases you. They are just grapes!!!

I will start a new business with a 500k in mind, to spend it all on the Screaming Eagle and film myself making mulled wine out of it and get pissed while flushing down flavoured doritos with it while raging shirtless playing fortnite and blasting cardi b. New vintages of d'Yquem are quite cheap actually and are accessible in half bottles for around $150 if you only intend to drink a couple glasses. But Petrus, DRC and Screaming Eagle are so expensive you will never see a bottle (let alone purchase one) unless you are rich. As in very rich, well within the 1%.
