Top 10 Morally Questionable Quests in WoW

Ойындар

In a game, where 2 factions are in a constant state of conflict, and going out and massacring an entire race of creatures is the norm for starting zone level quests. What would even count in this game as a morally questionable quest? Seeing as morality itself is pretty subjective. Well, quests that, after you do them, might have you thinking "was I the bad guy in this situation" or maybe "oh shit, that was totally fucked up".

You are right we should take over the world and force everyone else to do the shit we do already!

    It was a good strategic plan. Theramore was supposedly neutral. That was one of the main reasons the Horde never bothered with them. Then they let the alliance have trade routes through theramore. That was still ok. What happened afterwards was that the Alliance used those trade routes as a pretext to wipe out Camp Taurajo, a camp full of elders and children of the most peaceful horde race, the Tauren. They left none alive. Now, Garrosh was at war and he might have used the bomb anyway. But this is more than enough pretext. Also he allowed Theramore to evacuate most of it's civilian force. Not his fault the Alliance was stupid enough to amass a shit ton of it's army there.

    Garrosh has several questlines in Cata where he realizes he does NOT like shit like this staining his hands, and explicitly says that he learned that honor should never be tossed aside for victory. It kinda comes out of nowhere that he does something even worse but in the same camp as a general that he personally executed and they clearly just wrote him as a generic powergrubbing monster in Mists so they could keep the factions divided since he's suddenly wanting to open fire on ships in waters the Horde has no claim to sheerly because they're too close to something he wants to inspect.

    Well, I mean in context of everything you have to slaughter just to get to this point in the game, be it animal or humanoids, it's really just the cherry on top of the cake. That said I always remembered it for being one of the few quests in WoW which tell you to straight up torture somebody.

    Perhaps, but the story of Warcraft was dark enough already--pretty much the entirety of the Undead campaign in both Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne has you going on a complete genocidal slaughter of civilians, from Lordaeron to Quel'thelas and back again. Given the kind of shit you pull as Arthas, it actually makes the Death Knight tutorial area completely appropriate for the kind of villain that they're re-introducing in Wrath.

    There's this one moment at the start of Mists of Pandaria, alliance side. You just wiped out the horde base and little fleet, and a cutscene starts where a bunch of the horde sailors swim toward the shore - and chief night elf in charge of the assault gets the order to shoot them before they reach the shore. Not technically a quest, but result of one :D

  • @Sadieth9

    Isn't that the quest that's supposed to show you what happens when you get consumed by strong emotions on Pandaria? The npc becomes sha-controlled and has to be helped by the Shado-pan guy. There's a similar quest on the Horde side as well, and neither of the affected npcs felt what they did was right after they got purged of Sha. It's morally questionable yes, but it's not exactly the npcs own choice, they're mindcontrolled and both show remorse afterwards. I always just thought it's supposed to show the player the ways of the region and introduce them to Sha.

    Edwin went about it the wrong way, rioting and what not is not a way to get your voice heard. They don't live in a democracy, it's a monarchy, when you riot against your king, that is treason and whatever moral high ground you had goes out the window. Riots and throwing a tantrum is not productive. Considering that HIS riots caused the death of Varian's wife. Who had NOTHING to do with this bullshit.

    Except they didn't help him. There's a difference between helping someone, and not snitching. It's in their best interest not to say shit, because if they did, Garrosh would have killed them, or put them in prison for treason. People don't "have it coming", "it" being *genocide* because they *don't want to go to prison or get executed.* "They still supported the Sunreavers!" Oh yes, because Americans who support freedom also support every decision their government makes too! Oh wait - they don't. Same goes with literally *every self-aware creature that's present in a society where government exists.* "We got the job done!" You killed innocent people who had nothing to do with anything. We're mostly wrong because you're killing innocent people? You're legit retarded. It's people like you who I'm going to revel in when Genn and Jaina get killed, and I can spit in your faces once more, as I did in Gilneas when we took your sad excuse for a city capital.

    Killing enemy combatants isn't genocide. I find perfidy worse than the killing of enemy combatants. Just because you think you're morally superior doesn't allow you to use these tactics which cause suffering to civilians and innocents. The moment they attack you though, they're no longer civilians. I find this question way worse than the bad science one ranked above it for example, as while the bad science one involves illegal (and immoral) animal abuse and experimentation, the surrender involves a way worse crime as it actively harms innocent civilians.

    What I enjoy about WoW is the way it takes these two factions, pits them against each other, and for the player who loyally stays to one side, they are blind to the fact that neither faction is good or bad. Both are trying to make ends meet, and both have done some pretty heinous things. It presents a very realistic setting despite the fantasy world

    Vereesa gives you these quests, not Jaina. Throughout the quests it is explicitly stated you are to kill elves who forcibly resist arrest, though at the same time Vereesa makes it very explicit too that she hopes they *all* resist arrest. Also, If I remember correctly, the killing of civilians is up to the player, they are not specific targets of any quests, your video itself doesn't show you gaining any credit for the innocents you killed (you monster). -The killing quest requires you to put down the elves who have taken arms and are forcibly resisting arrest, as said before the killing of civilians does not progress it. -The quest that sends you to the underbelly also has you fight armed elves. I believe on the horde side they are holding position to smuggle out as many of the other elves as they can. -The shopkeepers, not all were resisting, you get given a list of four shopkeepers that, like all the other quests, have taken up arms to resist arrest. -Lastly, the quest with the magister trying to withdraw his money from the bank before escaping (it was only one not multiple as you say). The excuse Vareesa gives is he lost claim to his wealth when he committed treason against the Kirin Tor. Is this true? I don't know but I don't think Vareesa has the authority to decide that either way. Also, he does resist arrest. Just setting the record straight. Up to you if it's justifiable or not, that's why it is in the list of *questionable* quests after all. Also, a bit misleading claiming the Alliance as a faction takes the cake in this when the actual leader of the Alliance was using diplomacy and these actions were commited by a third party, Jaina as the leader of the Kirin Tor, who had just moments earlier in the quest chain declared they would remain neutral. In fact the reason she is outraged is the Sunreavers smuggled *a weapon of mass destruction* (calling it "just a bell" is so misleading) for Garrosh after she *just* told the Alliance the Kirin Tor would *not* chose a side. But hey, faction animosity!

  • @HouseOfAlastrian

    @HouseOfAlastrian

    And Jaina's 'leisurely stroll' around Dalaran during this event is not her killing Blood Elves... she's simply freezing them and teleporting them to Violet Hold. Sadly, Aethas Sunreaver, and probably most of the Sunreavers were unaware that Garrosh had sent the Divine Bell through Dalaran... after all, Aethas Sunreaver actually HELPED Jaina to defend Theramore earlier and was one of the council who actually voted her in as the leader of the Kirin Tor. It's guilt by association because there definitely were Sunreavers who violated Dalaran's neutrality and thus committed treason against the Kirin Tor... but she had no way of knowing which ones did it... every single one is a suspect. If Jaina's move against them had gone a bit smoother, they would have likely all been incarcerated at Violet Hold while an investigation was carried out to determine which ones were involved in the theft of the bell. When you are the police and you have a list of suspects, you're sure as hell going to make sure that each and every one of them does not skip town until you can definitively rule them out as a suspect. But... things didn't go as planned... many of the Sunreavers died resisting arrest and the Horde managed to spring some of them, including Aethas Sunreaver himself, so... we got that mess instead... with the Horde harbouring fugitives, and the Alliance holding the balance of power in Dalaran. The timing sure as hell sucks though... Varian Wrynn might very well have convinced Lor'themar Theron to bring the blood elves back to the Alliance if not for this purge in Dalaran. Considering how upset Varian was, he must have been very close before news from Dalaran shut down the negotiations.

    Could never give this enough likes. He made it patently clear in the past he was biased towards Horde and it shown in this video. I don't care which faction he prefers but when you are making videos that are supposedly based on facts and that bias is getting in the way of that, that when is when I start having a problem. Even Jaina herself during her patrol (leisurely stroll as he calls it) can be seen killing some elves and then teleporting others to the Violet Hold. You can understand Jaina's reasons considering the Horde used her neutral city as a means of smuggling a weapon of mass destruction out of Darnassus. A weapon that overwhelms anyone that heard it with negative emotions which makes them easily succumb to the Sha. It was confirmed that the leader of the Sunreavers truly knew about what Garrosh had planned but looked the other way. In reality Garrosh's underlings who worked within the Sunreavers were found to be just as responsible. Jaina primarily just wanted to imprison the lot until they could get to the bottom of things on who was responsible for this betrayal within the Kirin Tor. Any who did not resist were imprisoned, any who resisted and fought against her were put down. I find what she did, did come from valid reasons. There were traitors within at Garrosh's beck and call, this is indisputable, and she had no way of knowing who amongst the Sunreavers was one of Garrosh's underlings, is she to just let them roam free and commit further sabotage and wrongdoings in the shadows? She would be stupid if she did. Besides she was still a little touchy from oh, I don't know, her entire city getting nuked.

    The thing with the bombing in Stonetalon is that it starts off kinda normal as quests go, and once things start getting out of hand the player isn't really working for the warlord anymore, so the qest chain being morally questionable is debatable. As a matter of fact the last few missions in the chain have the player trying to help the Tauren stop the madness.

And the Horde are just pure innocent angels, falls apart if you were to actually add Horde questionable quests. It's the reason you claimed the Fool's Gold quest is only Alliance side, a Horde player such as yourself should have known that Fool's Gold is the very same fucking thing on Horde.

    so there's a vanilla undead quest in the starting zone. after you hit level 5 and leave. you can get a quest to steal some pumpkins from scarlet members. you turn these pumpkins in at an undead apothecary. the apothecary will then send you to some Hunan prisoners in the inn. you feed one the concoction and they die. later on you return with a beer for the dwarf. the dwarf turns into a ghoul and then dies. I'm pretty sure this constitutes as a war crime, and the first time I did it I was surprised there was no reaction from anyone who saw (npc who saw)

He puts in a ton of effort and I love how there's always background music, which usually adds to the intended emotion felt on the topic. It constantly changes to fit the themes within one video. Mostly because I'd be damning him for all eternity in the garrison that I never go to. I really wish I could swap some war stories with him. You did the Alliance proud, Taylor.

    Well to be fair with Jaina... she stood up against her own kind to achieve peace with the Horde... she killed HER OWN FATHER, she loved him like a daughter can love her dad. And after the orcs invaded Azeroth in sheer bloodlust after drinking tons of demon blood, you can't really blame the humans of Proudmore's generation either for treating orcs so bad... they tore Stormwind apart and killed thousands of innocents. If a couple of jears later the next Warchief just starts dropping weapons of Mass destruction on your city, YOU the one who FOUGHT AND KILLED YOUR OWN KIND FOR THEM.... jeah i guess that leaves a bad taste in your mouth

    You didn't even bring up the Gilneas questline? Where Sylvanas invades a neutral country, kills its citizens en masse, and uses biological weapons (which is ALSO a war crime) to render the entire country uninhabitable? But you know, Jainia killed a few blood elves in dalaran, worst faction ever.

  • @Vgpl0

    @Vgpl0

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yes, because Jaina killed innocent people. Feral Worgen believing to be ravaging a city and transforming people into worgen aren't innocent. Necessity for resources for the Horde is again, justified. The fact that you're comparing Sylv to Jaina is hilariously ignorant.

  • @mentelgenvideos4624

    @mentelgenvideos4624

    7 жыл бұрын

    Gilneas was walled off and posed no threat to Sylvanas. The country was surrounded by water on 3 sides and walled off on the 4th. In addition, the worgen threat was mostly under control when Sylvanas invaded. As for your moronic statement about "transforming people into worgen arent innocent" are you implying the NON-changed, unarmed, gilnean citizens that Sylvanas' forces mowed down weren't innocent? What about the evacuation ships she tried to destroy? The houses she burned down? And WHAT resources? Sylvanas showed up, tried to invade the city, and when she was pushed back, she killed the prince with a slow acting poision before releasing a bio weapon that rendered the entire country uninhabitable by anyone INCLUDING her own people. At no point during that process were any resources acquired. By the way, Garrosh explicitly told her in person that she was to withdraw from the city and under no circumstances was she permitted to use biological weapons. GARROSH FUCKING HELLSCREAM. Jainia was evil as fuck, but if you really think that Sylvanas was in any way justified in her unwarranted massacre of Gilneas (a, once again, NEUTRAL COUNTRY), you are either retarded or biased as fuck.

  • @Vgpl0

    @Vgpl0

    7 жыл бұрын

    Gilneas wasn't walled off at the start of the Cataclysm and was being attacked by feral worgen which *do* pose a threat to Sylvanas. So leaving a settlement of turning feral worgen, and the resources needed southward because of the catacylsm is why she invaded. The Catacylsm *broke the wall.* The worgen threat *wasn't under control because people were still being turned.* The citizens *were not unarmed.* No one was unarmed by the time Sylv started her march, because they were either fighting worgen *or worgen themselves.* All of which therefore, are perceived as a threat from a tactical perspective because they are mobilized and armed like an army. There were no unarmed citizens in Gilneas by the time Sylv got there, because they were all either worgen or fighting worgen. The city was razed *because they were worgen as far as she knew.* Add in this fact, and the one where you're fighting against her, and no duh she's going to attack your ships, and burn houses. "WHAT RESOURCES?" That's literally *the whole point to the march south.* Garrosh signed off on it because *everyone was searching for resources during the time of the Catacylsm, because one of the major points of contention caused by the catacylsm was resource destruction.* She showed up because marching southward for resources was the initial idea. She ran across Gilneas, being invaded by worgen, and sought to destroy that little problem because feral worgen have been nothing but trouble in the past. Uninhabitable? She wasn't looking to inhabit it, she was looking to gain access to the quarries and such near it. Gilneas being inhabitable isn't her concern, the rock face on the shore, the lumber, and other resources surrounding it were her concern. It's like you haven't even done the quest lines or something, because you're spewing nonsense. He told her to *not use the plague.* I don't recall *any* mention of telling her to withdraw. Garrosh Hellscream is a bigot and a racist - of course he's going to tell Sylv not to use something that's culturally exclusive as a weapon, because he's a bigot, not because it's right. *You're talking about a guy who's sole interest is spreading orcish influence.* He didn't care about the plague itself, just the cultural implications because it originated via forsaken. Garrosh has no moral standards, so saying because he said it's bad it must be really bad is a fallacy. He didn't say no because it was "bad", he said no because he's a bigot. 1. Gilneas wasn't neutral. See above. Feral worgen, and armed citizens make something hostile, not neutral. 2. Unwarranted =/= heading south for the resources, and prioritizing her people (yet again) over the Gilneans. You're the one who's either retarded or biased, because you can't see *the reason she marched south in the first place.*

  • @mentelgenvideos4624

    If you had done the quest line, you would know that the city was walled off, and Sylvanas was already gathering preparing to attack the Gilneans while they were weakened by the worgen. At this point, deathwing causes eathquakes which break the wall DURING the questline, and Sylvanas' forces pour in immediately. Clearly, you haven't done the questline, have no idea what you're talking about, and are not capable of having an intelligent discussion on the topic.

  • @Vgpl0

    Wrong. The wall broke during the Cataclysm - that's how the Worgen got in, that's how Sylv got in. Funny, coming from the person that doesn't know the order of operation.

    Jaina is justified in her anger towards the Horde, considering the abhorrent shit they have done. Bombing the vale of peaceful Druids. (against Garrosh's orders you say? The Alliance doesn't know that.) Slaughtering innocents, killing her closest friends and responsible for the death of the greatest mage to ever live: Rhonin. Then you come across the Broken Shore where people were resolute to fight to the end, but the Horde pussied out like a bunch of wimps. Naturally, Vol'jin croaks like a fucking pussy and puts a actually capable Warchief in charge. Also people that hate on Genn for his hate for the Forsaken: Those fuckers blighted his homeland and killed his son. I think anyone would be a little messed up over that. Also consider that Anduin did not endorse this. It was GENN who did this, not the Alliance. so stop comparing the two. I don't say Alliance is better then the Horde, or vice verse. Both have done some pretty horrid shit, and both are incapable of taking responsibility for it. Or was Sylvannas held responsible for slaughtering innocents in Gilneas? No? Shut the fuck up about Jaina not being held responsible then. They have their titty cards, which protects them from any repercussion that SHOULD befall them. Oh and shall we mention how it shows Sylvannas made a deal to enslave the Val'kyr in Stormheim? Are we REALLY going to ignore the fact that Genn Greymane actually saved the Val'kyr from being enslaved to the Banshee Queen? Fucking morons.

    Do bare in mind the countless times Jaina was betrayed. Yet still remained as a shield (metaphorically) before snapping. People here seemingly forget that part. She snapped due to the bombing of Theramore. On top of that.. people are saying "OMG Jaina killed civilians?!" yet rarely comment on Sylvanas and all the atrocities she has commited. (One example being her ordering people to kill refugees and forcefully making them undead / forsaken) Neither of them are saints in any sense.

    you fail to see one important difference in the comparison of sylvanas and jaina. Sylvanas leads the forsaken, an undead faction completely alien to the rest of the world. the forsaken do NOT consider it morally wrong or evil to gift people with undeath. Jaina on the other hand is human, and KNOWS what shes doing is wrong on every level. the forsaken do not apologize, because they have no emotion. they do not feel guilt, they do not feel shame. Evil is just a word there. its akin to considering an alien race of tentacle monsters from 5 galaxies away, and assuming they have human morality. lol.

  • @rokieparkourer1612

    @rokieparkourer1612

    Undead are not technically alien. They're humans who died and got resurrected again. Sylvanas does infact feel emotions. This is proven when you listen to her Lockbox if I remember correctly. She commands the Vyr'Kul to resurrect people. The Vyr'Kul do give those resurrected a choice to either live as undead or go back to the grave. Also undead do feel emotions. One does, at least. Forgotten her name now but you see her in the Scarlet Crusade. It's also possible that other undead feel emotions as well.

  • @ndaemon1718

    @ndaemon1718

    Hastings Gaming forsaken do not feel emotions so much as they remember a specific emotion and holds onto that singluraly. usually its a need for revenge or something simple like that. But emotions it is not. Sylvanas is unique in the sense that she still inhabits and regenerates her former body, she and the forsaken are nothing alike there :). the scarlet crusade one is also unique, but again, not so much emotion there as obsession. but i suppose it comes down to semantics and points of view :). I said the forsaken are baically alien because once you are liberated from the curse of flesh and mortality, you will never be the same. calling the forsaken mere dead humans is a grave insult to the superior form they now inhabit :)

    Valid point then. I agree, it does come down to simple opinions I suppose. Still, I am inclined to say that Sylvanas and Jaina are both evil (in sense). Hence why I pointed out that neither of them are saints, at the end of my first comment, that is. :P

  • @Vgpl0

    Fearful of the abomination she'd become? More like: she was raised as a child to believe that being Forsaken/undead is the most horrible thing anyone could imagine - *and she found out that belief was wrong.* When you bring morality into it you see that the Forsaken *aren't* like the Scourge, because the Scourge weren't raising the dead with free will, or for the reason that they're preserving their people. They raised the dead to conquer the world. The Forsaken are doing it to procreate, and make sure they don't die out. Silverpine showed us that the Forsaken are ample enough to take Gilneas from the Alliance Night Elves, Humans, and Worgen. It showed us that Sylvanas prioritizes the well being of her people over you, as any leader should. The Silverpine events show us that she's more moral than a lot of leaders, and not wiling to take shit if it means protecting herself and her people. Misconstruing again, are we?

    Something about people engaging on the "Jaina vs Garrosh: who was more evil" arguments makes my heart warm. It's like the people are actually a part of Alliance and the Horde and are being loyal to their factions. I feel like im in a tavern in Azeroth, listening patrons argue. I love it! My two cents? Alliance needed a character like new Jaina (to keep the story interesting). Garrosh becoming more and more corrupt made even the members of the Horde uncomfortable, naturally he grew more hostile towards the Alliance. As a leader chosen by naive ol' Thrall, nobody could really say "no". Thus Jaina's town gets nuked. What gets me is that she was willing to let this go, but went all Hitler when a small group residing in Dalaran betrayed her. No investigation, no sympathy, no nothing; dismantle the horde! Her hatred has become a problem almost, as she is at odds with Khadgar whenever he works with the Horde to save the world etc. With most of the cool leaders dead and some forgotten, I guess she is all I have left to look forward to. I am curious to where her character arc is going. Will she let go of her hatred and become the innocent good girl again? Or will she let vengeance consume her and become the next Arthas?

  • @linkzellda

    Both the Alliance and the Horde think of each other as evil and their side as good due to Demonization and acts of aggression by rogue members of both factions. Both factions are either at war with each other, engaged in a cold war against each other, or under an uneasy peace treaty that can be broken at anytime. The Alliance think of the Horde as brutal barbarians who would ravage and destroy their lands while the Horde think the Alliance are arrogant tyrants who consider themselves superior and the and they worry that the Alliance would hunt them down and destroy them. But the truth is they're both bunch of self-righteous and hypocrites that damn everything they deem unworthy, and persecute those who criticize their cause. The problem between them is that both faction are nothing more but ignorance, self-righteous and hypocrites. For example the famous destruction of Camp Taurajo which a lot of ignorant Alliance players are quick to defend this saying *General Hawthorne left an opening for civilians to escape!* or it was a legitimate military target but that doesn't change the fact that they still attacked a peaceful village and the lame excuse of a *"legitimate"* military target, it does not excuse the wanton destruction of lives and property of Camp Taurajo and yet the Alliance get piss for the destruction of Theramore, obviously a big hypocrisy on them.
