That last bit is something that I always ignore. Bloblobber main and I hear from so many content creators on how trash it is or if it is a tip on how to use it. I’m super aggressive when I play it and don’t normal stay far back like so many others do. I skirmish with it. A lot. I feel I do well, though there are games when I royally mess up because people don’t follow up when I start a fight because I’m a Bloblobber. I have a massively bad habit of forgetting people think we play passively and stand in the back throwing blobs that I will move out of position. Something I know I need to work on. As for the question of, then why don’t you play a weapon for that role, I just like the Bloblobber. I think the idea of dying to bubbles is funny. Even have killed people using the sprinkler, which really mad one person mad and always made a b line for me every time they saw me for the rest of the match after dying to the sprinkler. xD

Oh my gosh YES! I love the Bloblobber so much and it's hella fun to play aggressively with. I've decided my job as a bloblobber main is to be as annoying as possible. Whether that's playing passively by shooting from the backlines or pushing far into the enemy territory just to distract them. Heck one time I got #1 home base inker and #1 enemy territory inker on the same match from being such a menace. Honestly I've started really loving tower control, because I get to be even more of a menace. I camp out on the tower with my sprinkler going, and then I just chuck my bubbles EVERYWHERE. The one thing that can really stop me is a freaking deadly charger

i mean. its cool u like blob. but this is about getting better at the game, not casual play. and if you purposefully chose a weapon that isnt in the meta or competes for the meta, you arent looking to improve or do anything besides casual play. i dont really understand your "yes but i play blob" thing here. you can enjoy a weapon, but dont go looking for people to say you arent making a mistake when applying this to comp

yeah bloblobber is my favorite weapon despite all the stigmas it got through its entire lifespan, either by casual and mid level players, or content creators. It has the best potential in rainmaker, but small great niches in other rank modes too. Playing this weapon alot taught me to not listen to the popular opinions most of the time

It's a multiplayer game; the ultimate goal of matchmaking is to find the level where your W/L at 50/50, so you're gonna have streaks almost every day. It might help to instead think of what's going on behind the scenes: if you're on a losing streak, it could be, at least in part, because you were winning so well the game needed to match you against stronger enemies. It's a sign you're improving. Otherwise, if you're not gonna watch replays, at least try to watch what your opponents are doing; whenever you die, spend your respawn time thinking about how they got you and how you could've positioned different

The over focusing on gear part is where his whole argument falls apart. He describes the gear perks as if they’re abilities meant for 1v1s instead of of complementing your play style. You SHOULD over focus on gear if you know exactly how you play and what your weapon demands of you. Telling people that gear doesn’t mean much and playing without certain abilities teaches you more is just straight up bad advice

One of things I try to keep in mind is check my back and my sides because I tend to get jumped that way. I try to super jump close to the middle but not quite but just near the base if not successful. Don’t stay in one spot (unless you’re splatting) and use dodge rolls if things get a little dicey or if you found a way to escape. Learn how to find or make escape routes for the same purpose. You can use Salmon Runs as practice. It’s okay to help another player if they’re alone since two players can splat super easily. This is just based on my experience and may not work for others.

A lot of these tips are definitely helpful for people looking to improve at the game- I have a lot of experience in this game myself and most of this I technically know, but this still helped me because sometimes I just need to be reminded of some things. One thing, though. The second thing about jumping while fighting is just... not really true? Yes, some weapons should not be jumping in fights because of their jump rng, but that's almost entirely a problem with shooters other than splash, but shooters have way better mobility than any other class in the game other than maybe inkbrush, and often times their fire rate makes up for the bad rng anyway. Still, shooters don't necessarily need to jump much because, as I said, they have good mobility regardless, but I don't really think the threat of bombs is a particularly huge one. Weapons most hurt by bomb spam, grounded or jumping, do not have time to move out of the way if they begin an attack at a bad time either way. Weapons like explo and range NEED to be able to jump while fighting because they have horrible endlag and if they don't jump, they'll just be stuck there for like a second after firing. That's why the nerfs to range in splat 2 hit it so hard. Jumping gives weapons more range, and weapons other than shooters and splatlings don't usually have any ground or jump rng. Of course blasters exist, but they just run a lot of intensify action to make up for this. That's also another thing, although very minor, that I would like to mention- yes, gear isn't everything, but some weapons are extremely gear dependent. While you CAN play a weapon well with the shittiest gear in the world, machine without LDE is not all that great, and range without intensify action just turns it into the garbage fire it was in Splat 2, except now it doesn't have the grim kit to carry it. Overall though, to give this a bit more of a positive note, I do think this video had mostly really good points! I don't hear people talking much about how the objective should actually be pushed and how you can avoid feeding. The point about sharking when people have literally already seen you, or when it's an obvious spot is, to me, a pretty important one, since most people afaik want to play slayers and those are the people who are most likely to fall into that habit.

  • @Taifune81

Good points. I agree one shouldn’t obsess over gear but I also think that for some weapons gear abilities makes a big difference. For example, if you don’t use ink saver on dualie squelchers you’ll always run out of ink in the middle of fights. (Maybe because they - or I - suck, but the abilities still makes a big difference).

As a Tri Stringer Main it's super hard to really know when you push, so I always try to be behind my team never in front and if I see a teammate in battle I try my best to help them Toxic Mist the area behind or in front of them if I can so they have to engage the person they are fighting while I provide cover fire the opposite way or try to direct shoot them. I also play .52 gal in a similar way but I'm way more confrontational as I'll help push more but I use my Splash walls to have a back up option for people who rush in but need a quick getaway I'm the type of player who supports the heck out of my teammates, so I play weapons that balance my style well. I have picked up splash and I play similarly but that weapon is so good as pretty much anything it's not hard to get over 10 kills just by supporting. Splash isn't really a support weapon I'd say but Crab Tank makes it have the ability to so I use it like a Tri Stringer, and use lob shots to get an idea of the area if someone were to flee, but using the turret is also just good if you need a direct kill. (Also rolling with the crab tank isn't a bad idea, if you need to move or protect yourself it's better off losing the second or so not fighting then to die, and lose your position.)

I'm also working on flexing the use of my weapon, as Ill que up and for some reason or another, my team ends up being like 3 back liners. This games I work on surviving bad situations as someones gotta move up. Sometime the really bad games help us have the really good ones. bombs and blasters are a menace to my existence, but im getting better at dueling them every time. Plus its hilarious as blasters don't expect the tri stringer to get up in there face when they flank them, the panic gets real.

This is a good list but there’s one big one that I think can trip up new players and was an issue for me for awhile - not healing up when you’ve taken damage. Since you don’t have a health meter it can seem like damage isn’t even a part of the game, but it is, it’s just communicated to the player through the vignette on the screen, so the more damage you take the more the vignette gets clouded and harder to see. When this happens you need to stop fighting and go into your ink to heal up before you start fighting again, or just super jump out.

I could be super jumping to Australia, with the closest enemy ink being in Istanbul, and I'll still get instantly splatted the second I land. It's never as clear as it looks. Even when I think I know the map and I think I'm going to land behind a wall, I either end up on tip or in front of it, or the enemy has flanked in the two seconds the super jump takes to execute and I'm landing on a bomb or roller (mind you, again, there was no enemy ink in the same post code as the targeted landing zone two seconds prior). My worse super jump, however, was my own fault, ended up landing on the edge and drop rolling right off the map. As infuriating as it was hilarious.

Honestly, the only weapons where I think gear really does matter, is splatlings, and especially the Hydra. Having AT LEAST 2 mains of run speed is a must. Other splatlings might manage, but the hydra paints so horribly that the run speed is practically mandatory for just moving around the map. On top of that it really helps peek corners when charged up.

  • @demityrant1784

Well a main is worth 10 and each small is worth 3. So for my Hydra, I use Respawn Punisher (and this is VERY effective as the weapon can constantly print multiple kills from a safe distance, especially on Tower), and Object Shredder to erase enemy bubble shields and crab tanks with brute force. This leaves one main slot (the head gear), which I leave as run speed, then just a rockenberg top so it auto-produces run speed minis. It gets 3 of those and I'm set. Current set up is: -Head: Run speed Main with 3 Ink Saver Mains (this helps a lot on Hagglefish where that top tent part with no way to get ink back but still able to output damage, then use the B. Bomb you've gotten from painting to push offense while refilling ink.) -Torso: Respawn Punisher with 3 run speed (I use the Rocken Biker jacket to produce run speed without tickets) -Shoes: Object Shredder with 2 special charge and another Ink Saver main With it I have a lot of killing power, while still imitating a blue hedgehog. TL;DR The main slots may be taking up space for unique skills like Shredder and Punisher, which shine on a high-powered backline kill factory like Hydra, so you can use the minis to get the same effect without sacrificing your main slots.

On his screen an arrow shows up next to him and informs him visually and acoustically that you are mashing in order to jump to him. I mean this is how it's always been

I would try holding the controller slightly differently for a bit, like with your thumb just resting instead of on the button. I think Splatlings also help train you well to stay on the ground if you want to try those out!

Funny he says that, as I started as a splatling and never developed this jumping habit I keep hearing about. Splatlings have zero reason to do it, so yeah solid advice.

1:23 This is idiotic advice for Blaster mains. Not jumping will get you killed more often then jumping for every shot.

LOVE THE tips man! Subbing! I'm really enjoying getting to know more people like you in the Splatoon community! I'm a total Splatoon noob, if you can would you check my review? I love to hear what more Veteran players think about it.
