I find it ironic how the difference between the RWS and TVS goes: Children wanted more Thomas and the main cast and never new engines in the RWS, but then the tables got turned around when they wanted to see more new engines that appear in every season of the show.

This is all interesting book ideas, especially Little Blue Engines. Given how much lore and history Wilbert Awdry put into the Island of Sodor and its railways, plus having real-life history added in along with it, it’s surprising stuff like the Peel Godred Electric Engines, the NWR’s construction and stories taking place on all the Light Railways before they were all connected to form the NWR, were never made into stories in any books. Most of this is either up to the readers’ imagination on what happened or fans have written their own stories already. That’s the beauty of The Railway Series: the lore is ever-expanding and connects with real-life events in history, that the ideas for stories are endless. They could literally last until the end of time.

Wow, simply incredible! It is honestly a shame Christopher Awdry didn't get to do those concepts because the publishers wanted more of Thomas, but hey, we all know now. I definitely would've loved Barry the Rescue Engine as well as books about Peel Godred, the Mid-Sodor engines, the Austerity engine, Neil and the mountain engines in the present day. Your idea of Thomas and Edward working together on Sodor before the first ever book is also very interesting.

I actually wrote a book very similar to the Culdee Fell one you mentioned where the railway gets two diesels, and it also includes a story where Alaric becomes a runaway and almost ends up like Godred, I can't find the source now, but I remember reading a few years ago that his real life counterpart, Ralph, almost fell off the mountain after losing grip with the rack.

I just want to point out my OWN thoughts about some of these book ideas: 1. Barry the Rescue Engine. I like to think that Barry becomes the station pilot, however I also think that he would also be the engine in charge of pulling the breakdown train, which would explain why he would be called The Rescue Engine. 2. Wellsworth & Suddery Engines. You should check out The Buried Truck's stories about them. 3. Coffee Pot Engines. You forgot to mention Glynn from the CGI series because he's the surviving Coffee Pot Engine in the Thomas Canon.

This was an amazing video Adam. While there have been people that have explored a few of these things the most prominent person I can think of is TheBuriedTruck. But the railway series did leave a lot to be desired when it comes to these topics that we're very glossed over. If there were any books I would add to this I would love to see a book about the Diesel engines on the Arsdale railway more about Frank and getting to see Sigrid of Arlesdale and the Blister twins. What life is like on the skarloey railway is after the building of Ivo Hugh. Or getting more insight on the funicular railway that was built in 1985. Keep up the good work man can't wait to see more videos.

When I studied childcare one of our tasks was to write our own book. I wrote and still have the a RWS book featuring the Skarloey Railway. Stories included Duncan getting covered in chocolate during an egg hunt along the railway, Peter Sam getting over a fear of sheep and the discovery of a new narrow-gauge diesel engine. I feel the series could have gone in a vastly different direction if Thomas hadn't been pushed to the fore through the TV series. I'd gladly read those books, and I really should give Chris's books another try as I've only read 1 or 2 and didn't like the change in style from his father.

Here's an idea for a book: Diesel the Devious Engine. This book covers Diesel's time on the Other Railway after the events of Duck and the Diesel Engine. We see how Diesel's life has taken a bad turn after he left Sodor and how even the managers don't trust him, especially after the book was published. We then see a flash forward to when the Class 08s were being withdrawn and Diesel goes through a similar situation to what happened with Duck back in '57. However instead of being sad or upset about being sent away, Diesel just takes it all in stride. Halfway through the book, we see how Diesel's owner is struggling to keep him in working order and maintain his business. This part takes place during the events of Thomas and the Great Railway Show and when Thomas hears about this, he promises Diesel that he'll inform The Fat Controller about it, which he does during the end of the story. The last chapter sees Diesel being purchased by the North Western Railway and performing odd jobs until he's settled in. Although Duck and the big engines don't trust him at first, Thomas, Toby, Annie and Clarabel put in a good word for Diesel and tell them what happened during Diesel's last visit. The big engines are surprised but Duck still doesn't believe it. That changes when Duck breaks down and Diesel is the only engine available to help. Duck waits for the teasing, but Diesel doesn't. He just focuses in getting the passengers home. The book ends with Diesel becoming the station pilot at Tidmouth, a much happier and wiser engine. I feel this book would've been a good way to explore Diesel's character a bit more in the series. What do you guys think?

If we talking about Barry…he’s my thing…. RWS headcanon: Barry is suffering from trauma and has panic attacks whenever he sees a diesel. Luckily Douglas and Oliver being scrap refugees themselves are able to help him with his anxiety and overtime Barry becomes friends with Bear and Boco, and maybe be painted red TVs/RWS hybrid: Arthur and Barry exist as two different engines, they are brothers who never met and just like the RWS headcanon, it’s basically somewhat the same. Arthur and Barry have different opinions on scenery, since Arthur likes the Norramby branch since it’s a different kind of scenery but Barry would rather the countryside (since they are both midland engines). Barry would be painted maroon like Arthur, only different being he would have no logo on his side tanks…but to this day, sometimes engines who don’t pay attention will believe one is the other by mistake lol

Actually I think the rumor was Barry being a Standard 2, not an Ivatt. Another thing I'd go for is remasters of the older books (or even just illustrations) with some of these details - the Peel Godred branch opened at the time of book 1 - if it had electrics back then, they would've been different from the 86 and 87s. The sheds rebuild and appear in older book Sir Charles being promoted after the queen visited, Some batch of stories set in the 70s How the W&Ss and Coffee pots interacted or plus the 6 from the first book. And the most fun part to me is that the LMS used to have an extended route down to Norramby. Who knows? Maybe Barry himself ran the line until getting pulled out by BR. Even if he didn't I still feel the livery would be fitting.

I think we should have gotten more Stories, or even a full book about BoCo & Bear titled: The Green Diesel Friends maybe the Stories could be called: 1. Bear & BoCo Maybe they would meet or talk with each other for the first ever. And they get to know each other. Maybe this is were we get infos on where Bear worked before he arrived. 2. Failures This would be where we get some interesting History on the 2 Diesels, more specifically, why BoCo & perhaps even Bear (& D199) & their class were failures. 3. Trust between the 2. This Story could be about James, who still doesn't like Diesel, as this book might take place in the late 70s or 80s, and pranks the 2, telling Bear lies that BoCo off course did not say, and then the same with Bear telling lies about BoCo. I hppe you get it. And then, since we see them trusting each other in the first 2 Stories, they would find James out. 4. Friendships This is infact a part 2 to the 3rd Story. BoCo & Bear, who became very good friends, finally wanted to pay James out, and they did. They in Secret invited the Fat Controller, who after a bit aggred. Then they tell James that his Loco-Passenger Run to Brendam was cancelled, and that he has to bring empty Trucks to Brendam Harbour instead. However, BoCo was coppled at the back, which he uses to brake James down, so that he would arrive very late at Brendam Harbour. Bill & Ben then would be confused on too why he brought Trucks, sibce they don't need them. And them, we would see Bear with James' Original Loco-Passenger Run arriving at Brendam. Then James, Boco & Bear were not completely friends, however James' Arrogant's against Diesel's would go down after this one. I hope you enjoy these ones, i made a bit up right know, but i actually had an idea like this in mind for a goid bit now. Enjoyed your Video a lot. See you soon with another banger Video probably.

I think for Barry's book, there should be a story where he meets Thomas. Here's the synopsis: Thomas is tasked with taking a special train due to his popularity on TV and the children all think Thomas can do it himself. The little blue engine doesn't want to disappoint them so he refuses help until he breaks down on Gordon's Hill and The Fat Controller sends Barry to rescue the train. Upon arrival, some of the passengers inquire about Barry, as they hadn't seen him in a book before. (NOTE: this would've taken place shortly after Barry's restoration.) So while they wait for a replacement engine, Thomas thanks Barry for his help. Barry then begins telling Thomas and the passengers about his time on the Other Railway as the story ends. But due to the lack of spare parts that could sooth him, he was unfortunatly left in a siding near the mines till the day the MSR was closed; But a few years later, he would eventualy be re-discovered by Toby (thus, making him the RWs equivalent of Bertram), and soon after, he would reunite with Duke, Peter Sam & Sir Handel. And re-tell the good-old days of the Mid-Sodor. Nice video by the way mate (: D)

I'm working on a Railway Series book centred on the Norramby branch and the 2 diesel units that work there. Here's the first story: Vikings! Derby and Matlock are two of a kind. They were built for trial service on the Other Railway. Now they run on the Norramby branch, between Sodor and the mainland. One morning, Derby was waiting to leave Barrow when he noticed some very unusual looking people on the platform. They had large backpacks and wooden chests. I wonder who they are, he thought. The signal turned green and Derby left the station. He crossed the Vicarstown Bridge onto the Island of Sodor. When he reached the passing station at Ballahoo, Derby met Matlock coming the other way. “Hey up Matlock,” he said, “I picked up some strange looking people at Barrow. They look different from the usual holidaymakers.” “I say Derby,” Matlock replied, “There’s a strange looking boat at the marina. It’s got a big red and white striped sail and a dragon’s head at the front - I’ve never seen anything like it!” Derby kept thinking about it as he made his way towards Norramby. As he rounded the curve and approached the marina, he saw it! Nothing had prepared him! “Wow!” he breathed. It looked amazing! When Derby arrived at Norramby, he met Hubert the Hovercraft. “Hallo there,” Hubert said, “Are you alright??? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” “I’VE SEEN A DRAGON!” Derby exclaimed. He told Hubert about the strange and fierce looking ship. He knew what it was! “That sounds like a Viking longship,” Hubert replied, “When I was first built I ran the cross Channel hovercraft; there’s a Viking ship near the old Ramsgate Hoverport. They sailed here from Denmark without an engine, just as the Vikings did all those years ago. My captain says it’s still there.” “It’s got a tall mast and a big sail,” Derby observed, “They’d have to lift the bridge to get in and out of the marina!” Hubert laughed. “They had to lower the mast to go under the bridge,” he said, “It’s sailed from the Isle of Man for the Norramby Viking Festival.” “What’s a Viking Festival?” Derby asked. “It’s a living history event where people dress up and live like the Vikings for the weekend. They do their cooking, crafts and fighting displays; lots of people come to see them.” “Are those people I brought up from Barrow taking part?” “It looks like it,” Hubert finished, “See you later.” Derby’s driver changed ends and they set off back to the mainland. He saw the Viking ship again as he passed the marina. Now he knew what it was, it didn’t look scary! Derby & Matlock are BR Class 151 units; the only 2 built: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_151 In real life, both were scrapped. During their trial service they ran on the Derby - Matlock line (where their names come from). During their time on the mainland they met BoCo's brother CoBo (D5705) in storage in the old Matlock goods shed. The book will feature BoCo & CoBo.

Additionally if it was written in the 1980s and 1990s then there would be plenty of other Bluebells, each with a story to tell, to introduce.

I have been making my own Thomas timeline a bit loosely the same way NWR1991 did, but it's rather my own head canon as to how events would occur mostly on Sodor. And to take your notes from this video, Adam. I see potential into writing stories from those missing Railway Series books and write some of them on how they would fit into my own head canon Thomas lore. It's on my DeviantArt and I only have made Parts 1, 2, and 3. No sign of Part 4 yet (and people in the comments, do not ask me when I'll get to it). The following missing books you mentioned I'm going to think of writing some stories will be as follows: 1. "Barry the Rescue Engine" - Same as your interpretation, but in my own take, Arthur reunites with him. 2. "Bloomer the Old Scottish Engine" - Two stories set in the days when Bloomer used to work on Thomas' branch line in the days of the coffee pot engines running the line before all of them were sold off for scrap (except Glynn). Thomas and his branch line friends give Bloomer a warm welcome as Bloomer comes back to Sodor to celebrate 150 years ever since the Stockton and Darlington Railway was founded, but is sad because he is rarely seen by the public due to his older age beyond this point. Out of sympathy, the branch line engines come and visit Bloomer whenever they are there for him. There would be a story where James is jealous of him because he thinks Bloomer is not as grand of a red engine as he is, he shows off by trying to prove the more up to date engines are more reliable than he is only for things to humble him back later when he speeds through a station and gets sent to his shed as punishment, with Thomas, Toby and Percy taking the big red engine's experience as a laughing matter behind his back. 3. "Peel Godred Engines" - Set in the late 1940's (either 1947, 1948 or 1949), a feud between the North Western and Peel Godred engines rises as the Mid Sodor Railway closes up for business due to the extension to the Aluminum works at Peel Godred and World War II affecting that railway. During a blackout, Gordon puts his grudge against the Peel Godred aside and helps an electric engine's train out in order to rescue the train. After Gordon's successful rescue mission, a truce between the North Western and the Peel Godred engines was aligned. 4. "The Austerity Engine" - A sequel to "Wilbert the Forest Engine"; After Wilbert went back home to England, the Fat Controller arranges for a new Austerity tank engine that looked like Wilbert. Jensen was the engine who he could find and was made another permanent addition to Thomas' branch line. 5. "Mid Sodor Engines" - In a time before Stuart and Falcon became Peter Sam and Sir Handel and joined the Skarloey Railway, they had a lot to learn from the oldest of the Mid Sodor engines, Duke. One story would be about Duke in his youth, Stuart in the second, Falcon in the other, and all three coming together in the fourth chapter with the last story showing the closure of the Mid Sodor before Stuart and Falcon were sold off and also before Duke was abandoned and sheeted up. *SPOILER ALERT!* No.2 is eventually scrapped, you're welcome! 6. "Coffee Pot Engines" - The engines who ran Thomas' branch line before Thomas himself were the coffee pot engines, and the most famous one of them all was Glynn. We get a somber story about Glynn being taken out of service along with the coffee pot engines in the start. After Thomas just got his branch line, the blue tank engine is still interested in who the coffee pots were besides having discovered Glynn, only for him to find out that they worked on his branch line years ago before he came. Years later, Marion the Steam Shovel discovers Glynn accidentally and Glynn was soon restored after having been found again by Thomas. He now resides at Ulfstead Castle as one of the estate engines. Sure, this is something out of the TV series. Just go with it. 7. "More About the Mountain Engines" - Not much to say other than a sequel to the 1964 book taking place in the 1970's. Ernest went on retirement, Alaric and Eric had been withdrawn (either having been sold off to another railway, a railway museum, or were scrapped to death off-page), and the Culdee Fell Railway gets two new diesels. and 8. "North Western Construction" - An episode taking place in a time Hiro and Edward were two of the first engines to arrive on Sodor, and this is set before "Hero of the Rails", except if HOTR was in the RWS. I know that Hiro was built in the 1930's just like the other JNR Class engines, but let's just say he was built as a prototype in this timeline. Hiro and Edward have helped build the North Western Railway from 1913-1914. After that, Hiro broke down at a forest and Edward did not know where Hiro was or when he'll be back. But over time, Edward forgot about Hiro and Hiro was nearly forgotten about by almost everyone on Sodor, all he could do is wait until his new parts would finally come. After attempts to look for Hiro were unsuccessful, the Fat Director subsequently ordered two new engines to take Hiro's place. The two new blue engines were awful, ungrateful, rude and treated Edward poorly. After the arrival of the new blue engines, Edward was left alone in his shed until years later, he would have his chance to come out again and have a day outside the shed once upon a time.

5:05 Charlie shares his name with Edward's driver who is also called Charlie. Also at 2:01 I made up a female engine with that basis called Bonnie who is from Scotland like Donald and Douglas and she is painted ruddy blue with while lining and silver buffers along with a silver railway logo on each side of her tender. This is due to the lack of female locomotives.

I think little blue engines could've shown Thomas starting to get respect for Edward and feel bad for him being left In the shed and how Gordon treated Edward couldve been why Thomas became so cheeky and not like Gordon Edward was like a role model to Thomas while they were building the main line and maybe showing Thomas standing up for Edward which would show Thomas having a side to him that wasn't really seen during this time.

I've already decided upon using Whiff, Molly, Neville, Murdoch, Arthur and Emily. But I wouldn't mind mixing around with other characters like Nia, Rebecca or Yung Bao too. Given that Barry and the others never had their own books published. I might bring them in as well. Glenn and Stephen are high on my list though. As well as Merlin and Hurricane.

I'd personally have kept Alaric and Eric in service. I'd like excluding yours: *Aluminum Engines* - Stuart and Falcon's between MS and SKD *Steelworks Diesels* - Incorperating Arry and Bert *Sodor Roadways* - Giving spotlight to Caroline, George, Algy/Bertie ans Trevor/Terence. Maybe incoperate Butch *Duck and the Bluebell Engines* - Duck and Stepney reunion where Duck Helps out on Stepney's line and we meet the others properly *Engines and the Storm* - A terrible storm his Sodor as we have a story from various lines seeing how they cope. One NWR, One CFR, One SKR and One AR. I'd probably give the NWR story to focus on the Peel Godred line with James and Bear helping out *North Western Diesels* - Giving Bear and BoCo spotlight stories. *Oliver & The Diesels* - Focusing on Oliver's encounters with The Diesels on Sodor and PTSD around them and him overcoming it. *Arlesdale Diesels* - Frank, Sigrid and the Blisters get focus here. *Fred the Lazy Diesel Engine* - Since he never appeared lets give him a book too and also include Ivo Hugh as he didn't get a speaking Line. *The Sodor Transport Museum* - A Coffee Pot is found and Neil returns and are exhibits as is Caroline. *Reformed Engine* - Instead if youe Austerity Story. Mine includes Sixteen being the one that was brought to Sodor. After discovering he is Sixteen, the other engines are wary and Sixteen is determined to prove himself to them all he is a reforned engine *Twin Engines* - Bill is sent away for repairs after an Accident and Ben struggles without his twin and BoCo and Edward (Charlie too following yours) support him. Ben eventually learns he can work independently when he needs too. *Works Engines* - Victor and Kevin incoperater here. The Works Diesel (Jeff from fan series) gets some spotlight. Victor is brought in to help when it comes to the SKR. *Dockyard Engines* - Incorperating Salty and Cranky but the Docks is Tidmouth as that is the larger station here and on the mainline. *Kirk Ronan Engines* - Introducing New Engines for the Kirk Ronan line when it reopens. Mayge 1 story introducing the cement works and Fergus. *Unique Engines* - Harvey is brought from a Hertidge line who can't afford his repairs anymore. He, Daisy, Toby and Percy get spotlight stories. *Grudgeful Engines* - Diesel returns and even after saving Clarabel in Thomas and the Evil Diesel still has to make things up with Duck and the Mainline trio. Oliver, Donald, Douglas also refuse to acceot Diesel and Thomas, Annie and Clarabel have to fix the tension. Given the TVS popularity, If a character could work I think working them into the RWS would be nice. Some like Emily , Lady and Diesel 10 though I don't think could work but the Diesels easily could

I would like have seen books with more real life engines. Such as Gordon needing a heavy overhaul and being temporarily replaced on the express by Tornado. A Talyllyn engine visiting the Skarloey Railway (since both Sir Handel and Peter Sam have visited the Talyllyn), a Snowdon Mountain Engine visiting the Culdee Fell, and an engine from the Ravenglass & Eskdale or the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch coming to the Alresdale Railway. Or Thomas visiting the Bluebell reuniting with Stepney and meeting Birch Grove, his only surviving relative. Or, a sequel to Oliver's escape from scrap, only 20 years later and this time a Deltic or Class 50 is making its escape to Sodor to avoid scrap to make the tables turn.

Maybe now people will write about these characters. Also 8:28 he was outside in a shed, so he didn't drown. But "pump failure" is still very vague. EDIT: Ok, so I was looking more into it, and this went on for WAYY longer than I thought it was, but I'm going to commit to it. Keep in mind, these are just supposed to be along the lines of brainstorming and ideas more than any sort of tips, guidance. I'm gonna guess maybe the title of Barry's book would've been a pun of sorts. Like, he would've been saved, and would've alternatively saved others one way or another. Also yeah, like Donald & Douglas in the books, I can't see him sticking to BR Black after they just discarded. Ivatt's engines look good in a lot of colors, so I could go either way. Bloomer, probably 1-2 books at most. It seems like he only comes out seasonally/for events given he's 161-172 years old (2023) and probably wouldn't even have an actual NWR number. The Shildon Cavalcade and other galas/events like that would be ideas for him. -not to mention a break from the usual topics- I feel like the W&S idea could be intertwined with the one about Thomas and Edward's arrival, considering the pregrouping engines would be there until at least sometime after WWI. Ideas just come down to who the characters are and how much longer you think they could've survived. It's just 3/4 bases and some dates for most of the old railways, with Neil being the only one name. Period. One thing with Peel Godred is that the ones Awdry says works it don't match the dates. He says (at least one) Class 86, Class 87, and an EMU work on it. But they were built in 1965/66, 1973/75, and who knows respectively while the branch opened the same year as the first book in 1923. So there must've been other engines that just never get acknowledged. Maybe they were old and decided to use it as an opportunity to change voltage and thus withdrew them? Who knows? Maybe some NER EF1s and some old EMUs. Like I said before about Stanley, but I kinda wonder if Atlas and Alfred were temp names/models for Falcon and Stuart. They're so out of place, don't appear again, and when they did appear, the two you know would've been there aren't. Unless more is revealed at the next AwdryEx, it's not confirmed tho. Not much else to say aside from more MSR stuff aside from the main 3 1/2 would be nice. Ok, so I had to check. Percy's Porridge mentions the engine is, in fact, intended for The Little Western. In that way, Sheffield's green livery was actually fitting in a way. Same issue as the W&S. Nowhere to start when there's nothing to go off of. But it's possible it would've been 16 that was purchased. Unlike Wilbert, 16 and his heritage railway are never specified or made out to be real. So maybe he was sold to the NWR? More TK&E stuff would be cool, as it's mostly just Glynn copied from the show. One thing that probably would need to be brought up is that 3 engines built by Sir Topham Hatt were scrapped in the 50s, which just adds to that "literally an evil dictator" look. Maybe make it an executive decision neither Hatts wanted, or the senior did reluctantly? Idk Hatt I did die in 1956, so it's possible the last was scrapped the same year. I heard the basis for either Eric or Alaric derailed at some point in (I want to say) the 80s and rolled down a bit. It wasn't serious, but it did happen. Also a pet idea I always liked was the inverse of what was mentioned, being that the scrapped Snowdon engines went to the Culdee Fell. For ideas, try looking through the wikipedia page for rack railways for some to pull from. SLM (Who designed the engines for both CFR and SMR) made engines for a lot of mountain railways, so I'd recommend looking into those for ideas. Also just because they're really really gorgeous. Man, Switzerland looks so nice. You didn't have to do that to Neil. The S&M's follies have so much potential for a book. Not to mention that Neil, Skarloey, & Rheneas are possibly some of the only sources left for it due to their record keeping would be interesting. This is absolutely a missed opportunity. It would've worked so well, and giving some sort of explanation to the two number engines whos names may not even be canon anymore would be nice. The ending would've been cool as well. Yeah I definitely agree, it feels like things have settled down by the time Chris is writing. It may not all work, but it's nice.
