but buzz has a limited understanding of what a space ranger is - his conception of "space ranger" includes toy-like properties his behaviour has been "taught" based on his design as a toy he therefore considers toy-like behaviour to be part of being a space ranger, i.e. when he was motionless in packaging, in front of humans etc

Seth Jefferies Or he was going at a speed over C so he went back in time, which made him see the planet rotate backwards for the duration of the flight. It's relative. If he did it to the planet alone, it would go back in space a few quadrillion parsecs cause of the galaxies movements and left our solar system. The usual time travel issue: you need to also teleport to a certain position, otherwise you split with the planet. Which would actually be the problem in Back to the Future. But for Superman it's kinda fine cause he controls his flight path.

I think a bigger plot hole in Titanic would be at the end when she fantasizes about Jack, metaphorically spending the afterlife with him. That's sweet and all - except for the fact that Rose has a GRANDDAUGHTER. Which means at some point in time she had a husband (or maybe just lover) whom she had a least one child with whom in turn had a daughter themselves. You're telling me that this woman who lived almost to her 90's met another man, raised a family and lived her own life and the only thing she thinks about when dying is some guy she knew for less than a week?

Azziza Joi Robinson how is that a plot hole? Plot holes are illogical or impossible events or statements that contradict earlier events in the storyline. It's not illogical or impossible that Old Rose would think fondly of her first love and hold a special place in her heart above all others. It's also not illogical or impossible that (since she was only 17 when Titanic sank) that she would meet another man and have a family.

Maybe she met a man that reminded her of Jack and had a one night fling that left her pregnant, or she hooked up with Jack's unknown twin brother, who knows? But there was at least 70 years in between the events of the Titanic and her as an old woman, so anything could have happened, however, if something like that happened to you, you would NEVER forget it, not for a second. And ok, maybe she only knew Jack for a week, but it was certainly not your average week, I think you know what I mean. It would certainly have been the most memorable week of her life.

Is the Star Wars one really a plot hole? I don't think so. They couldn't detect any life on the ship but they had no idea that destroying the pod would prevent the Star Wars... they ain't psychic. I agree, all movies and stories happened just because individual mistakes or actions... But, by the way, the great plot hole of Star Wars, but a forgivable one since there were decades between the movies, was Ben Kenobi and the Lars Family (Luke's uncle and aunt) doesn't recognize R2D2 and C3PO in Episode IV. Yet, there are several theories that can fit this hole: Kenobi, somewhat like his dialogues about Vader, were telling "half truths" (a portuguese expression "meia verdade" when you tell a statement that isn't a lie but skips main information), as he indeed never owned they; and Lars had worked with so many droids that they actually forgot about C3PO.

lucaspalmaa That's a good explanation, but I think they're forgivable because Lucas hadn't planned to use the driods in the prequel at that stage. Although he did a fair bit of retconning, I'm fine with him not fiddling with those parts of the film.

It's a plot hole because it makes absolutely no sense for them to hold their fire? I think Family Guy put it best "Why? Are we paying by the laser now?" There is zero logic to not blast the escape pod. Even if they scanned and found no life form they are more than well aware that there are these things called droids. What negative action would have resulted from blasting an escape pod that ejected from an enemy ship? It makes zero sense.

Even if there wasn't people On board everyone knows about droids and their on board databanks, hands to hold a data chip or bag(carrying the data chip), compartments inside R2-D2 type droids, and the empire/old republic's multiple wars with sentient droids and their predilection towards loyalty to their owner The empire was looking for the death star plans, Not just Princess Leia. Vader knew it was on a physical data chip(he saw a guy running with it in Rogue 1). So, it could have been easily thrown into the escape pod floor, or programmed into its computer. All to be picked up after it crash lands by another rebel spy. The empire was also in the very middle of capturing the *entire* ship, with the obvious intention of scouring the entire thing for the plans, so letting a critical part of that ship to escape un-searched is criminally negligent of those British Space Nazis. There was no reason not to at-minimum destroy the pod and comb through the wreckage later, or use their insanely powerful/useful tractor beam to bring it in for a quick check before using it as a bordello.

The point wasn't to destroy the plans, it was to get them back. (Because in the _Star Wars_ universe apparently you can't copy something.) If they destroyed the escape pod they couldn't know whether or not the plans were there. A bigger plot hole is when they first see the escape pod they say "there goes another one," implying there were others already jettisoned. But when reporting to Vader, the grunt says that *an* escape pod was jettisoned, implying that it was the only one.

best joker yeah it wasn’t much of a plot hole it was more of a plot hole in the prequels since the last time we saw C-3PO in episode 1 his wires were exposed and anakin didn’t give plating to cover them but when he reappeared in episode 2 he had some metal plating who gave him that and in episode 3 he then had his iconic gold plating WHERE THE HELL DID THE PLATING’S COME FROM AND WHO GAVE HIM THEM

My explanation for the "plot hole" in Star Wars ep. IV: The search for the Death Star plans probably didn't make its way down the Imperial chain of command; they were probably only told to capture Princess Leia. When the pod showed no signs of life aboard, they were instructed to hold their fire...

Ok first of all the Eagles are not Gandalf's bitch taxi service. Their divine creatures sent to protect the Elves. They do NOT follow Gandalf's beck and call. Secondly the Eagles could not enter Mordor while Sauron's presense remained, not to mention the orcs and other defenses that would have shot them down. It's also not a plot hole anyway.

But in the movie, didn't the eagles drop Frodo and Sam off on the side of Mordor? And if the eagles are indeed divine creatures... my point is still valid. Do divine creatures not exist solely to intercede against evil? The world is going to shit in a hand basket and these eagles be like "Nah, fuck it." And while I'm not a LOTR scholar, these stupid birds do seem to appear every time big-G calls them. So again... wrong.

Siavash Sabet You're absolutely right. Also in an open tournament, like the one in the movie, the organizers get to decide the rules. It's clearly stated and demonstrated in the movie more than once that kicking the face is OK. I don't know where people get the idea that it's wrong at some level.

The definition of a plot hole is an inconsistency in a story - not the improbability thereof. In fact, this list is mistitled. Most on the list aren't plot holes, just things fans and WatchMojo.com would've rewrote had they been involved in the filmmaking process. I would hope fans renominate a top ten list for major plot holes.

If a story assumes a reality on planet earth with humans as they are, then the laws of physics and human nature is assumed in the logic of the story and there would be a contradiction if something wildly unrealistic happened.

The Star Wars one isn't a plot hole at all. It's just the story line.

In karate punches to the face aren't allowed but kicks are. So no plot hole just an inability to do even a shred of research on watchmojos behalf

Mohogany Guy 1869 Im familiar with some master of none haha. Boxing, Kickboxing, Tae kwon do, Karate, Jiu jitsu, Catch wrestling, Judo. U know.... the usual haha. The rules in all of them are fucking stupid. you should be allowed to strike to the face in karate, You should be allowed to slam in jiu jitsu. U should be allowed to elbow and kick in boxing. Once they become about tournaments and sports they lose the martial arts side of them. All martial arts contests should be about a finish and ones where you have points to decide a winner after a time limit Just lose the artistry and become about points rather than the "martial" aspect. rant over haha

So, yes, an illogical decision made--to simply force a plot point-- can be considered a "plot hole". Using the escape pod example: The officer knew that they were there looking for vital intelligence, he also should have known that droids do not give off "life signs". By all accounts he should have ordered the pod followed (if not destroyed) to make sure nothing was planted in it. The whole entire franchise rested on this one very stupid, illogical decision--a decision that should have never been made in the first place.

Roger Gurman Is there a Mojo list of Mojo mistakes? The escape pod not being shot down is simple. Ask yourself who put the androids in the pod? Only a person "Strong in the force" like her father and brother and we are shown many times how the force is used to trick the weak minded. Leia uses the force to talk with Luke in empire strikes back and says to Luke, in the return of the jedi, how she somehow always new she was his sister. If you actual watch the movie, it is very clear Leia was using Jedi leadership skills when Luke is still being a grumpy teenager. Why would teenager be a high ranked diplomatic leader, able to stand her ground in arguments with the most powerful/scary people in the Universe and withstand being integrated? Simple answer; Leia was using Jedi skills years before Luke was. What I wonder is how Mojo missed the many plot holes Episodes 1-3? Like no one in the Jedi council understands the meaning of the word "Balance"? There is never even an explanation of how "bringing balance to the force" could mean anything other than there being the same amount of followers of the light and dark sides of the force. So we are to believe the fall of the Jedi is all because Yoda misread a vision? For some reason Anakin went nuts and killed a lot of cute little children seemingly all because he fell in love and we are told this is why Jedi were banned from loving anyone but yet doesn't effect his daughter, Leia. She falls in love with Hans Solo but she gets nicer and cute little people love her. Then there is Midi-chlorians! Umm Plot Holes?

IRON MAN 3 - tonys arc reactor no longer charges his suit, and uses a spare car battery.... ALSO. the fact that tony had 40+ armor man suits in his house but just let 2 helicopters just blow u his house to bits and pieces.

Don't forget PTSD, teaming up with a kid, and armor only being durable with a human to lubricate the parts together (it wouldn't have been as noticeable if they didn't make a deal about getting the armor off of War Machine and then all the armors being dismembered by trucks and human hands) .

And not to mention the fact that there was never any sort of explanation as to how a character with extremis can be killed. one person had to be blown up, one only needed to be shot by a repulsor, the main villain was blown up twice with no consequence, but then some people just explode if they don't get their extremis fix which some of them can walk away from sometimes, I guess.

The Signs things isn't a plot hole. The aliens obviously didn't know about water being dangerous, the alien in the finale is surprised whenever his skin is burned by water. And also, the main character's son, who's name I don't remember, states that the invasion that's taking place IS the scouting mission.

Whoever said Bruce got back to Gotham in "mere moments?" Gotham had already been occupied by Bane and his men for months by the time he was able to get out of that pit, who's to say another week or month didn't pass between his escape and return. And I hardly think not having any passports or resources is an issue considering that he spent about a decade traveling the globe in pretty much that exact same situation. Except unlike when he was younger, I doubt that present day Bruce Wayne would have an issue using the his name and the influence that comes with it to procure some resources for himself. So in the end, the only real plot hole in this scenario is how was Bruce able to get back into Gotham after Bane had successfully blocked all entrances into Gotham to keep neighboring police and/or the military from interfering. I mean granted, I still imagine it'd be easy for someone like Batman, even out of costume, to find a way into Gotham undetected, but it would've bee cool if they'd shown it, unlike all that other stuff that was mentioned.

I would agree, as Bane even says 24 days, I believe, when Bruce escapes the pit.

the dark night thing is stupid. just because the show bruce wayne at the same time somewhere else (movie time) doesn't mean its the same time in the other place (universe time).

+OmNomNomNomNom So maybe Bane just decided not to progress much further over that time period but that still doesn't explain the simple question of how Bruce Wayne got back to Gotham at all, something my wife and I wondered when watching the movie. Imagine, you're stuck in another country out in, what looks like, the middle of nowhere with no supplies, no identification and no idea where you are. How exactly do you plan on getting back home? Let's assume that you can find some method of getting basic necessities like food and water, which seems difficult judging from the shots we are shown, where do you go? How do you find the nearest airport? Do you know how difficult it is to get back into the US without a passport or identification? It's difficult, let's just say that. And yet, when he gets back, Gotham somehow isn't in absolute shambles despite the fact that we know Bane has the ability to literally implode entire stadiums.

No 6? Really? I thought everyone understood by now that the earth rotating backwards is a visual representation of Supes flying so fast he is travelling back in time himself. The rotation of the earth is not involved. It would only look like it was going backwards since Supes is visiting the previous moments in time during his journey back in time. The real 2 plot holes are: 1) Travelling really really fast does not confer time travel ability. 2) Would Lex Luthor really be put in a regular prison if he nuked the USA twice?

If the earth were spinning in reverse comparison, that would be a pretty slow time-lapse right? Going that fast would mean superman's personal time is relatively slower. 10min of Light speed superman= 50yrs for everyone else; the opposite of what he is doing in the movie. going over lightspeed doesnt = time or inter-dimensional travel in the marvel universe unless you're flash (from Flashpoint Paradox) or an old source (which superman is in this scenario). So... Seems legit.

You got it right. He traveled faster than the speed of light, so from his perspective the Earth would have appeared to spin backwards. We were simply seeing a version of what he was seeing, albeit with him in it.

Yes, traveling really fast, no matter which direction, will make time go forwards faster, not backwards. Basic relativity! Traveling at light speed will only time travel to the future, never to the past, well... according to human science.

Wei King Well, if you traveled faster than the speed of light for long enough directly away from earth and then you looked back on earth you would be seeing the old light that came from earth before you left, so you could see yourself leaving. You wouldn't go back in time, but you could view the past, but you couldn't change anything. You could still only see the past ONLY IF you traveled AWAY from earth not AROUND it. Not that anything could travel at light speed... again according to current-human science.

How about Back to the Future II? Premise: In the first movie during the filmed experiment at the mall, Doc sends Einstein one minute in the future. Marty thinks Einstein has been disintegrated; but rather Einstein "skips" over the minute to appear in the future. Similarly in BTTF II, they travel into the future to fix Marty's kids. Two problems with that: One: he travels into the future WITH Marty - which means Marty "skips" over the next thirty years to appear in the future. No Marty means: no marriage, no kids, no problem (except perhaps the 30 years of his family wondering where he's been all this time). Not to mention the moment when Biff sees them disappear in the sky - where are they at THAT moment? Two: Doc Brown is in a time machine for crying out loud. Couldn't he just go back and warn Marty about his troublesome kids (or just about any time prior to their arrest)? The entire BTTF II movie is one big plot hole that abuses the idea of time travel paradoxes by not respecting it's own canon or continuity or plot devices.

apcasrroma same in Terminator 2. Why send a cyborg for kill John Connor when you can send a cyborg in help of the first cyborg you have sended in the first Terminator's movie raising double the chances of killing him? Entire Terminator 2 is a plot hole

apcasrroma I have to agree with 2, he did not pick a convenient time to warn marty. But 1 is clearly resolved in BTTF III, when marty is back at the time before the events of BTTF II, take place, and although we will never know, it is assumed he returns to the time before he left safely in all following adventures with doc Brown, so he did not miss any of his life in the end.

"Star Wars Episode IV: A very convenient Exhaust Port leading to the main reactor" That is not a plothole, just think what exhaust port is suppose to do, without exhaust port, it would get quite exhausting. And remember that everyone who tried to fire missile at it either failed, despite targeting computer, or were shot down. Luke only succeeded thanks to the force, so you can`t blame Empire for leaving that exhaust port like that. Glad that it was not included.

The entire story of Hugo is one giant plot hole! 1) Boy finds non-working robot 2) Boy fixes robot 3) Robot draws picture of a scene from film voyage to the moon 4) Picture leads the boy to a magician who built robot 5) Magician recounts the story of when he built robot 6) Magician then became a movie director after building robot 7) Magician then disassembled the robot to make camera 8) Magician *THEN* filmed voyage to the moon 9) Magician sold robot Question: How was the robot programmed to draw a scene from Voyage to the moon, when it was disassembled before the film was made? Furthermore, it is never explained who or why it was programmed to do so. And no, the answer is not magic.

The made it very clear that Hugo’s father was building it with Hugo before he died and so that’s why Hugo wants to rebuild it. The father left that thing inside the robot which told it to draw a scene from Trip to The Moon so that Hugo would know to find Melies because that was a movie at the time and Melies was still a famous director thought to be dead.

I fucking love Signs. But the whole "aliens being totally oblivious to water on earth" boggles my mind

Menacing Threat What makes you think they were oblivious? They had no intention on taking over earth (likely due to it's hostile environment) they were there to abduct people. The reason they become noticed isn't because they just arrived, but because they were all leaving.

The one that just came out? Yeah I saw it yesterday and bug the shit out of me how just thrown up ideas were put in. Like it has no plot. What a girl with drugs gets to use more of her brain and must find more drugs and the scientist? And she has so much power she couldn't just go outside the room at the end and kill all of them in 3 seconds? No the movie was just and a loss and terrible.

All of these movies pale in comparison in how Kirsten Dunst actually falls for Tobey Maguire in "Spiderman." It was like having to watch a younger brother try to French kiss his sister.

Nobody realised in the dark knight rises that Between Bruce's escape from the prison and his appearance in gotham there were around 2-3 months that were skipped?

The timeframe isn't really the problem as much as the fact that he got back at all. He's trapped in the middle of nowhere, no supplies, probably doesn't speak any local language if he meets someone, no idea where he should be heading, and the city was locked down. He apparently gets the most amazing run of luck ever while at the same time the bad guys just sit there waiting for him to get back so he can beat them. It requires too many logic jumps that can only be explained by "he's the main character so he needed to be there". Unless they gave him several years while they stared at walls and twiddled their thumbs while dreaming about his big gloved fists, in the faces it just doesn't work, and if that is what they did then it makes no sense.

CaptainSparrowx Uhm... in batman begins he pretty much did the same.... travel through most of the world without knowing any languages eccetera eccetera eccetera. Notice that he ISNT in the middle of a desert, he walks toward a city in the distance (its hard to notice but its there), wich means that obviously it would be not THAT difficult to get near gotham in short time. Ultimately, it's been since they activated the bomb that the baddies wanted to wait all those months for the bomb to explode by itself, and make gotham suffer in the process. Ultimately, it's not that much of a big deal or that illogical. Also... there are superhero movies that come up withway less logical things, so I find exagerated such complaints about TDKR

Not true, the Special Forces agents were executed and the bomb had 2 days according to Gordon before it would go off before that event happened. Gordon says this once the special forces arrive. Batman saw their execution from his prison because he proceeded to break his TV when he saw it

The bomb was said to be going off in 23 days, a day before Bruce escaped the pit and made it back in 21 days.

Are you fucking kidding me? Bruce escaped from the prison and travelled to Gotham because he had experience at doing that, which is shown clearly in Batman Begins. Besides, I don't remember anyone in the movie mentioning where the prison is, could have been anywhere, so you can't just say 'half way around the world'. Bruce never had his back BROKEN, is vertebrae got dislocated, the punch probably helped fix it, and it does take about 3 months to heal. It took Bruce a few weeks to travel to Gotham, that escape scene is shown when Fox says the bomb would go off in about a month, and then there's one day left when Bruce reaches Gotham. So, you can put that 'plot hole' up your ass, collegehumor. and mentioning a Batman Begins plot hole under the title of The Dark Knight Rises is lame.

Because it was different transformations. When he tried to kill Black Widow there was a lot of stressful things going on, Bruce couldn't focus his mind on 'steering' the hulk to help. Later on in the end of the movie, he is keeping his mind clear able to 'steer' the Hulk in the right direction.

#3: The butler heard him say it, and comments on it later in the film. #2: Traveling the world while broke is the first Bruce ever learns in Batman Begins. Also, if you check the TV before he escapes, you'll see he actually has a few weeks time left.

Terminator 2, where Skynet decide to go back and kill John Connor in the 1990s when he and his mother are expecting it, rather than just killing Sarah Connor's grandma in the 1930s where the Terminator would have encountered zero resistance.

You're wrong about #4 The Titanic, Mythbusters done an episode on it and found it was actually not possible even using the life jackets to counteract the added weight

The biggest one for me is that Emma frost died after first class but was alive in origins that supposedly took place after the original dofp past. IF you think Xavier being alive tho they already mentioned it in X3. Wolvy's claws in DOFP are a question also.

the dark knight rises: His Back was fixed in prison.

The Superman plot hole doesn't end with the fact that reversing the Earth's rotation wouldn't turn back time, but do you know how badly Earth would get fucked up by stopping or reversing it's rotation? Imagine everything, including oceans and the atmosphere, suddenly flying east at 1,000 mph.

Err...That's not the biggest plot hole in A New Hope. What about the fact that Obi-Wan gives up against Vader claiming that being a force ghost would make him more powerful, when the only things he ever does as a force ghost are things he could do while still alive.

Except that Obi-Wan was always around Luke, wherever he needed to. Which wouldn't have been impossible if he had been alive (In the middle of Hoth when Luke was about to die, etc.) .It was a sacrifice to spur Luke on. Besides, Obi-Wan was pretty old, he probably wanted to die.

Well, being a force ghost made him pretty immortal and since he was an old man to weak for serious fighting, he probably thought he could give Luke better support by guarding him this way. Furthermore Luke might havent destroyed the Death Star without Obi-Wan's advise to trust the force.

Marius Falkenstein Everything Obi-Wan tells Luke as a Force Ghost is something he could have told him at a different time with no difference in outcome. In a New Hope he could have been told to use the force prior to starting the mission. In Empire he could have been told to go see Yoda when he's not in the middle of Hoth. Now if he weren't dead he could actually give Luke real Jedi training. And, the way Obi-Wan and Vader's light saber goes, it's not particularly clear that Obi-Wan is at any disadvantage. They seem evenly matched, unlike in Empire when it's clear Vader is toying with Luke. And Jedi showed us that even when Jedi die naturally they can still become force ghosts.

Citizen Kane isn't a plot hole. The butler says later in the film that he was in the room. The camera just doesn't show him. *tsktsk* WatchMojo.com

Because either Disgust, Fear, or Anger would had to have received them on the other end and put them back in, but as shown with Sadness, the other emotions touching core memories changes the memory

Raiders of the Lost Ark: Plot hole: Indy is irrelevant Proof: if he wasnt in the movie, the nazis wouldve gotten the medallion, gone to the island, opened the ark and all died, just like they did. It just wouldve happened quicker because they would have both sides of the medallion not one first then the second later

Roachbait FNV I see you didn't read my post and didn't really watch the film. Water didn't harm any alien until it was blessed. That's why the little girl didn't drink regular water. That's why the glasses of water around the house meant nothing to the aliens until after the priest started paying. That's why the alien invasion was going gangbusters until people around the world, including atheists, began mass praying. And the last alien was still strong until the priest was able to stand up, his faith returned to him, and "swing away". It was faith in a god that slayed (or at least weakened) the evil invading force.

watch mojo needs to understand what the definition of a plot hole is

I hate how people point that one out about Batman. But if you've ever seen any other Christopher Nolan film, you'll know that he loves to play with order of event; time gaps and plot structure. "Memento" was in reverse order, "The Prestige" scattered the order of events, and "The Dark Knight Rises" had time gaps. Let's analyze the plot. During Bane's reign over Gotham, the story would switch back and fourth between Gotham and the prison. Remember that, we'll get back to that. When Bruce first tries to get out of bed and fails, the doctor suspends him with a rope. Notice his facial hair when he's strung up compared to the part where he sees Ras Al Ghul. When he's suspended, he has no facial hair, but the next shot is him with noticeable facial hair. Now back to Gotham. The under cover cops were trying to get to the bomb before their six months are up. At first, when the bomb was introduced, it's summer. When there's a day left on the count down, it's winter. Now in the final Gotham scene before Bruce escapes the prison proves that there is no plot hole. CIA agents sneak into Gotham to help the remaining cops. They're taken to Fox who then tells them they have 23 days before the bomb goes off. then we see Bruce escape the prison and get to Gotham with enough time to spare. Now as for how he got to Gotham without any money or a passport and broken back (which wasn't really broken when you think about it because that destroys Bane's method of torture). Seriously, if you were the only one who can save your city from a nuke, why would take your time and get there through legal means? The guy probably stole a plane.

Another thing with Gremlins, when does it stop being after midnight? Is the window like 12-1am? Technically right now is after Midnight.

auric180 That docent work, there is equity as little sun 30 minutes after sunset till 30 minutes before sunrise. It's not like the sun just turns off at midnight so it cant be the light levels, also if it was light level you just turn on some full spectrum electric lights and you can feed your gremlin.

I imagine that they have to fall asleep first, then when they wake up it stopped being after midnight. So if it sleeps at 12:30 a.m. and wakes up at 3 a.m. it will be fine.

Does watch mojo know the definition of plot holes? Only two of these were plot holes. Plot holes are when elements that are established within the story cause a paradox. Basically, only the Karate Kid and Citizen Kane had plot holes, based on what was provided. The rest are contrived plot devices such as hollywood hacking (the often used movie portrayal of hacking a computer system), storm trooper incompetence, limited story frame (where basically anyplace or in the case of Gremlin, any timezone doesn't exist within the story unless mentioned), never aging technology, and even artistic liscense in physic (meaning what the writer doesn't know about physics they just make up). The stuff from Titanic, The Dark Knight Rises, and Signs were just moments of poorly written or poorly executed moments in a movie. In Titanic, it suppose to be that there isn't enough room (as was mentioned) or she didn't have the strength to pull him out. In the Dark Knight Rises, it is suppose to be assumed that once the scene transition happened that just enough time has passed since that moment he makes it out of the pit. In Signs... well that was suppose to be M. Knight S.'s twist for the movie... well part of it at least... I think it can be safe to say that there is a whole thing one can do on what the guy did wrong in his later movies, if one can't find one floating about on the internet.

Not to be a dick or anything, but in Citizen Kane the director realized the mistake halfway through filming, so he added a line or two to fix it up. There is a point later on in the film where someone (I don't remember who it was exactly) said they were in the room to hear the character say 'Rosebud', making that who death scene a POV shot. :)

The biggest plot hole in Batman was why they all referred to Maggie Gyllenhaal as beautiful. I watched that movie picturing her as Droopy the Dog. They are identical twins. THAT, was a plot hole.

Gremlins 2: The New Batch poked fun at the midnight thing themselves.

Do you guys even know what a plot hole is? Only about half of these were actually plot holes. For me, the biggest Plot Hole I know is in Back to the Future 2. (practically guaranteeing a plot hole is a time travel movie) Anyways, when old Biff steals the Car to give his younger self the book, there is no way he could have returned the car to 2015 that Doc and Marty were in. The movie actually explains why it's impossible for them to prevent Biff from doing this in the first place, but doesn't explain why Biff somehow gets a pass.

In the first movie, it took time for Marty to disappear, because he still had the opportunity to change the past so he could exist again. Presumably Old Biff did not disappear before returning to the future for the same reason. Back to the Future Part 3 has a few serious problems in the form of alternatives that Doc and Marty should have considered but didn't. 1. The DeLorean Doc brought with him to 1885 had gasoline couldn't travel through time because the flux capacitor was damaged by lightning. The DeLorean Marty brought with him to 1885 was unable to accelerate to 88mph because it was out of gasoline. All Doc and Marty had to do was repair the leak in the fuel tank and siphon the gasoline from Doc's DeLorean, and skip the train entirely. 2. Clara thinks Doc is making up the fact that he's from the future. Doc can't convince her otherwise by himself, but why not tell her Marty's from the future as well and let him confirm it? 3. Speaking of Clara, if Doc hadn't interfered and saved her, she would have fallen off the cliff into Clayton Canyon. Taking her back with him to 1985 would have impacted the past far less than leaving her there.

A lot of these aren't actually plot holes and why was Terminator not on this list?

@@a2falcone Not all movies have the same rules for time travel. Terminator 1 follows the same logic as Prisoner of Azkaban and Interstellar, while BTTF1 is more like Jumanji and Days of Future Past.

What is the air speed velocity of an unladen E.T.?

I think Batman Begins proves that Bruce Wayne is more than capable of travelling around the world with no money, so I don't see why getting to Gotham would have been a problem. Anyway, I'm not sure why people felt the (already 2 hr 45 min) Dark Knight Rises needed to explain that. What did you need to see, a two minute scene of Bruce Wayne jumping onto a fucking cargo ship or sneaking onto a plane?? Also, are we sure he only had 24 hours to get there? I'm pretty sure he had at least a few days if not a couple of weeks, but I'd have to watch it again because I'm honestly not sure. If he did have at least a week then I don't see what people are complaining about...

Also, when in the movie does it say his back has been "fixed". All the doctor did was jam his vertebrae back into place where it could heal to a functional level in a matter of months. In all likelihood, Bruce is in a ton of fucking pain, and has to fight through it. In fact, the guy is going to be physically ruined for the rest of his life after the only short amount of time he was able to be Batman.

avp802 ALSO, it's explained by Lucius Fox in Batman Begins that the vaporizer was developed to target the enemy's water supply. It only targets concentrated supplies of water (i.e. pipes, etc), not dispersed quantities of water contained in humans.

I think Bruce Wayne would of had secret off shore money reserves like every other billionaire on earth. So lack of money would not be a problem.

Batman 3 it states that Bane occupies Gothom for like 6months. So batman heals up in the Prison, gets out, and goes home. How did he get home with nothing? - watch the amazing race to find out. Also your missing the biggest plot hole of all time. Raiders of the lost Arc.

hedrack08 In the beginning of the occupation of Gotham, the "bomb" has about six months before the core will melt down to the point of exploding on its own. Somehow they've got it down to an exact science of when this unstable core is going to blow up, down to the exact second. But, the core definitely explodes exactly when they expect it to, which is six months later. So, Batman does have about six months to recover from a slipped disk in his back (no bones were actually broken), and return to Gotham. But, honestly, that's not the major plot hole of the movie. The major plot hole is this: how did Bane know exactly where the vault, that contained all of Batman's equipment, was when it was completely off the books. The only people who should've had any idea where it was: Batman, Lucius Fox, and Alfred.

Character choice is not a plot hole. The Imperial officers on the Star Destroyer in A New Hope simply decided not to waste ammo (or whatever it is those guns shoot) on what they assume, due to no life forms being aboard, to be a malfunctioning escape pod. Sure, it may have been dumb (it is the Empire after all), and they probably got fired (or worse), but it's not a plot hole.

Mythbusters actually found the life vest buoyancy theory plausible. What's also plausible is not thinking of every possible idea during moments of extreme stress.

I have a counter argument for Citizen Kane: That there WAS somebody in the room when he said "Rosebud". Namely, the viewer. When he says it, the camera is at an extreme close-up on his lips, meaning that he was actually breaking the fourth wall and was speaking directly to the audience.

Another thing about Gremlins is that the father specifically said not to give Gizmo anything to drink. Never mind the fact that no living creature can survive w/o water, but don't most foods have moisture in them? What about the atmosphere? It shares a lot of questions raised about Signs.

I always wanted to know why Darth Vader and the Empire needed to get the "stolen" plans back. I guess it made sense in 1977 but now data is copied almost instantly and can be sent anywhere in a few seconds. If the Death Star plans were stolen now, they would be on Wikileaks for everyone to see.

Matt Ranson You are forgetting in Star Wars Lore, the Empire controls most public access to the Holonet (there version of the Internet) ... it is Government controlled, there are minor exceptions, but the average person doesn't have access and the Empire is fast and effective in shutting those down. The Rebels would not be stupid enough to use it to transmit the Data as it would give away their location.

Remember, the Empire controls information routes, and the Death Star plans are for every nut and bolt in a space station that can house over two million troops. One would expect it isn't the kind of thing you can just upload from your cell phone.

For the Karate Kid one, I believe that the rules in most forms of karate sparring is that punches are allowed from the waist up, however not the head. But kicks are allowed anywhere on the body upwards from the waist.

That is not the be big question, even if we had the same watch in the entire world, it would still always be after midnight. 23:59 is after midnight, which time do it stop being after midnight? They at least have to say between 2 times, like between midnight to 1 AM. When they not say a end time it is always after midnight.

These really aren't plot holes. Some actual Star Wars plot holes would be. Why is there no explanation for Jar Jar Binks' absence from the original trilogy in the prequels, or why was Yoda willing to train Luke but refused to train Anakin on the basis that he was "to old" even though Luke was a decade older than him. Why doesn't Darth Vader remember C3PO and R2 D2 even though he built 3PO and had R2 as a companion during the Clone Wars. If the Stormtroopers are clones of Jango Fett why do they have a different voice. Why does Leia remember their mother but Luke doesn't, and how could that even be possible if Padme died during child birth.

1. Highly likely that Jar Jar was killed during order 66 for his involvement with Jedi council 2. When Anakin was shown to Yoda for training, the number of Jedi at that time were large, but when Luke came, he was the last 3. Either possible brain damage from his burns, or he didn't spend enough time with them to address this fact 4. Possible that the helmets they wore affected their voices differently than when they wore clone helmets, or they might be clones of another person 5. In the novel it explains that Leia was born with her eyes partly open, while Luke had his shut. 6. Padme died after birthing Leia and Luke

Most of the clones had died or were killed by the original trilogy. Most stormtroopers were just conscripts wearing armour similar to that of the clones.

Almost none of those statements are valid, the clones stopped being made after order 66, and within 19 years most of the clones had died off so the empire recruited regular men.

1) Side-games confirm that Jar-Jar was either killed or just frozen in carbonite. Not a plothole. 2) Sorry, it's not that hard. Yoda very obviously didn't have much choice, and its an ongoing theme in the prequel trilogy that the Jedi have become too set in their formalities and traditions to adapt to Palpatine's machinations. Not only that...but Anakin being too old was only *one* reason Yoda and the rest of the Council were hesitant to allow him in, and it wasn't even close to being the biggest one. 3) Better, but, as mentioned above, he didn't interact very much with R2 and C3PO during the original trilogy. In addition, both R2 and 3PO had different chassis than they did when he last saw them. Heck, he took a bit to recognize *Obi-Wan*, the guy who trained him. I'm not just talking about by appearance, either. 4) Explained in the guides, the games, and the expanded universe: the *original* clones were in Jango Fett's mold, but the Emperor decided to use other parent strands and volunteers after Kamino tried to rebel with their own contingent of Jango clones. 5) Bail Organa told Leia about her parents (only somewhat, of course), and...well, add in southparkkenny's explanation to that. Some decent questions, but most of it is readily answered in the (admittedly, freaking gigantic and convoluted) Expanded Universe.

See, I would have to agree with you on all points, on the topic of Vader and the droids I do, but the EU isn't canon. Everything is easily explained by it but, none of it was written by George Lucas and therefore it doesn't count and especially with 7, 8, and 9 coming out everything post VI in the EU is now going to be irrelevant unless J.J takes from the EU which I hope he does. To me a lot of it is just sloppy writing that without a fan created Universe to explain it all would just remain as such. It's part of the reason why people don't like the prequels because it doesn't fully agree with the original trilogy. The EU reflects this by trying to explain away many of the inconsistencies and mend the prequel's universe. The Clone Wars is an awesome concept that Lucas really should have emphasized the "war" aspect of it in II and III luckily the EU has done this. I'm getting way off topic , my main point is while the EU explains most of my questions its still not canon and shouldn't make up for George's initial flawed and forgetful writing in the prequels.

Also in Star Wars, neither Darth Vader or Ben Kenobi recognise R2D2 and CP30 in the original 3 films. However in Star Wars The Phantom Menace Anakin (later becomes Darth Vader) built CP30. Anakin and Obi Wan (named Ben in Star Wars A New Hope) spent almost the whole of the 3 films with R2D2 and CP30 but failed to recognise them later in the Saga. This is more of a mistake from the newer 3 and not the older 3 but it's still a big plot hole.

Actually that can be easily explained because if you look, Vader only shares a scene with one of them during Empire while Threepio is on Chewie's back, and even then Threepio is a very common model of a Protocol Droid and his memory has been wiped anyway. Artoo is also a very common type of Astromech droid.

E.T. has shown his abilities without bicycle (flying balls scene). Perhaps, for a bigger subjects, he needs to manipulate existing energy (for example kinetical energy coming from a bicycle)?

that's the WRONG Star Wars plothole. The correct plothole is the fact the Death Star has to orbit the moon in order for the rebel base planet to be in range. Hello!? They have the ability to blow up planets! Just blow up the moon, then blow up the planet!

I',m quite surprised you didn't mention the fact that in the first Indiana Jones The character Indiana Jones is not actual needed in any way. The Nazi wanted the Arc of the Covenant, they took the Arc of the Covenant, they opened the Arc of the Covenant and they all die because the opened it. The exact same thing would of happened if Indiana Jones wasn't there, Wan't Take, Open, Die.

The plot holes in Titanic come from the fact that it is supposedly Rose’s recollection but includes scenes that she didn’t witness and could not have learned about second-hand, such as conversations between her fiancé and his servant.

This list is amongst the stupidest you have ever done! The SW one does not make sense at all. A better plot hole would be that a space station the size of the Death Star can be destroyed so easily - and they didn't learn the second time around!!!

If you're talking about the birds flying the ring into the volcano, it's because the rings corrupted and disturbed the birds so that they couldn't fly it in.

dtanobo The whole thing with this neverending argument is that even a short flight by the eagles at almost any point could have saved the fellowship days if not weeks on their journey, and an infinite amount of trouble. There are plenty of points in the plot where the eagles could have safely helped out, and they most likely would have considering the fate of the world including them rides on the success of the fellowship. They were convinced to help for a much less serious reason in The Hobbit.

I don't hate on that because that's the way it is in the book, not just half assed directing. But what about the fact that if that ring is so important why didn't the elves and dwarfs and humans send an army to look out for it during their journey. What they just sent like 10 guys and wished them luck? They should've have a small army traveling with them. After all,they did say that the bad guys would stop at nothing to have it.

They walked into Mordor because they wanted to spite Boromir. Also, what's the point of that? If they just flew into Mordor, then there wouldn't be much of a franchise.

Best metaphor I've heard, The eagles are way too proud to be taxi's. So they are like the police, help you out in dire situations but they won't give you a ride home.

At 4:30 they found a time travel blooper in a movie about a guy who flys, and who flys as fast as the speed of light, and who sees through concrete and who can lift large sections of a continental tectonic plate. It's tough to find a blooper in a movie like that.

Funny thing about #8, in Gremlins 2, they asked the same questions about midnight lol

And they missed the most glaring plot hole in all of movie history. The entire Lord of the Rings trilogy. If they have these huge Eagles that can fly into Mordor, why do they decide to walk? WTF is up with that?

Because the books say it's not possible to do that and Peter Jackson failed to briefly mention that in either LotR or the Hobbit films.

The Eagles can be killed. At the time they flew to Mordor in the films, the entire armies of Sauron were busy fighting Aragorn & pals at the Black Gate. They also were short on numbers after being pwned in Gondor. If the Eagles flew to Mordor before all this, they'd have to deal with the Ring Wraiths on Fell Beasts, a hail of arrow fire and probably an army of orcs at the entrance of Mount Doom. You really think they wouldn't just get wrecked?

The Raiders Of The Lost Ark plot hole? If Indiana Jones wasn't in the movie, then the ending would have been exactly the same. The Nazi's would have found the ark, opened it, and then died........ I bet I just ruined a lot of your childhood memories?

Yes, but the movie is about Indiana Jones adventure, not about the ARK. The ending is a discover, no one knew will happen that.

There was actually an unused scene in Independence Day where they explained that all human technology was based off of the alien ship that crashed in New Mexico

5:05 in the last prequel they are building the death star before leia and luke grew up

Luckily the alien space ship ran windows 95 so we could infect it with a virus...

I'm baffled that movie aliens always come to earth naked. They have no protective suits on for a totally different atmosphere and the highly advance means to get to earth in the order place. But no space suits. I mean, would you go to a different planet naked?

They could be in bio-suits of some kind, but then again I'm defending a movie where water is poisonous to life despite life probably not being possible without water.

Predator, War of the Worlds, Independence Day, Mars Attacks, The Day the Earth Stood Still. The naked thing bugs me too, but some movies dress them up. Also, some aliens like Xenomorphs from "Aliens" and the aliens from "Attack the Block" are feral and have no technology. Signs makes no kind of sense. Some SCUBA gear would have saved their race.

Very good point! At the very least, armor would be needed, at least until you control the planet entirely. Although Predators kind of makes sense to me. They were effectively proving how fierce a hunter they were, so it's kind of that traditional thing of going naked into the woods to prove you deserve to live and be an adult in your society. It's a coming of age story :P Exception to the naked rule. Independence Day had the aliens wearing biosuits, which the scientists cut them out of. But I really love War of the Worlds, where the aliens are killed by viruses/bacterial infections. That is an extremely logical progression. I'm always surprised when so many people get upset by that ending. Maybe people don't understand history or how the immune system works.

Harry Potter and friends are told at the end of Philosopher's stone they can't use magic outside of school. He even tells Hedwig he can't use it to let her out at the beginning of Chamber of Secrets. Yet later that same movie Hermione uses magic to fix his glasses in diagon alley (something Arthor Weasley did in the books if I'm not mistaking). Then at the beginning of Prisoner of Escaban he's using magic for reading light.

+SupernerdScrawl To be fair, they're just not allowed to, which is why Harry was temporarily thrown out of Hogwarts and then let back in in PoA. On the other hand, to be fair, that plot point seems to disappear later on, and it's never made clear if there's an age barrier or if JKR just forgot about it in the later books.

***** The books are very clear. It's the movies that messed it up. It's 17 when they're allowed to use magic outside of school. It's a major plot point a lot. But the movies throw it away when ignoring it would make for a good scene.

Tentreto Nah movie Harry was just a dick after that and kept Draco's. Also he could have just got a new one, but still he should have repaired the one he already had a connection with.

Number 2 is easy to explain, go back and watch Batman Begins where Bruce Wayne "was around" traveling the world to master martial arts, trained himself to survive and know the world's worst criminal's mind around the world in order to be able to fight Gotham's criminals. And he trained with Ra's Al Ghul. This gave him experience to return back to Gotham since he already knew his ways around the world with out using money.
