🍃 Top 10 Hidden Gems: Syngoniums You NEED! 🌿 | Dive In Now!

Welcome to my channel where houseplants are more than just decoration; they’re a passion! Today, I’m thrilled to share a video that spotlights the often-overlooked but absolutely delightful Syngoniums, also known as Arrowhead Vines. Whether you’re a seasoned houseplant enthusiast or a newbie to the green world, these plants are worth your attention for their beauty and resilience.
What Are Syngoniums?
Syngoniums belong to the family of aroids, typically overshadowed by their more popular relatives like Monsteras, Philodendrons, and Anthuriums. However, these humble vines are among the easiest and most forgiving houseplants to grow. They are adaptable, thriving under various conditions, making them ideal for indoor environments.
Why Syngoniums?
These plants are perfect for any indoor setting, capable of handling both underwatering and overwatering. They grow into lush, bushy plants that can bring life to any corner of your home. In today's video, I will walk you through my personal collection of the top 10 Syngonium varieties, each unique with its own stunning characteristics.
Top 10 Syngonium Varieties:
Syngonium Strawberry Ice - Known for its striking pink variegation.
Syngonium 'Ngern Lai Ma' - A spectacular variety with silvery-white leaves.
Syngonium Milk Confetti - Features splashes of pink on white, resembling confetti.
Syngonium Maria - Boasts deep green leaves, perfect for understated elegance.
Syngonium Erythrophyllum - Distinguished by its rich, red-backed leaves.
Syngonium Red Spot Tricolor - A true showstopper with salmon pink dotted foliage.
Syngonium Pixie or White Butterfly - Ideal for small spaces with delicate white and green leaves.
Syngonium wendlandii - Appreciated for its dark green, velvety leaves.
Syngonium chiapense - Notable for its robust and textured foliage.
Syngonium podophyllum Albo - Famous for its dramatic white variegation.
Care Tips for Thriving Syngoniums:
Caring for these plants is straightforward. They prefer indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions, making them versatile for any room. Regular watering, when the top inch of soil dries out, and occasional fertilization will keep them happy and healthy. They’re particularly forgiving, bouncing back if you miss a watering or two.

I can absolutely recommend Syngonium Podophyllum Mottled “Mojito”. Mine grows like a weed. Apart from that I like Syngonium Starlite because it’s much more delicate in it’s growth and tends to stay smaller.

@@JohnGSilver it’s more like a non-variegated Philo I guess. I have mine in a shaded east facing window, no grow lights. Is yours a cutting/small plant or mature? Mine is in an east facing window with direct light in the morning. It didn't do much for 6 months or so but then started growing like a weed too. It must have put on about 1m (3 feet) in about 4 months! It's growing as a single vine though and I'd prefer something a little more bushy so I'm going to chop it up this weekend and replant the props in the same pot once they have roots. I don't know if single vine is it's normal growth pattern, I'm used to a bushier growth patterns from other syngoniums.

🇦🇺🙋🏻 hi Memo, plant KZreadrs are my enablers 😅 and there's only a handful of you that I watch! But I do have my favourite online nurseries, one which does give a freebie according to how much you spend - more enabling lol. I bought some syngoniums when I was trying out passive hydro for the first time, I still have them so they must be tough lol. I love my Mojito, my first moss pole plant, Mine's very dark green when I thought it was going to be more minty. Batik is another on a moss wall and has grown really well, chiapense and frosted both on poles and doing super well, and I have literally just ordered the Syngonium erythrophyllum! It will arrive on Thursday - blaming aloha plant life for that purchase lol. I'm on the look out for mini pixie! A tiny pot of tiny plants - so cute! The second one you showed I bought under the name, “holly?” Mine was so so compact when I got it and all tiny leaves in the middle started dying. 😭 so I thought let me separate it out and noticed it had a huge root plug. Anyways it died and I was super sad. My problem with syngoniums is I love on them (over water) too much! Yet I have a greenish pink one in leca and it's so so happy. 🤷‍♀️I also have one in my bathroom with a lot less light but higher humidity and it's looking pretty good. I have the milk confetti, Maria, and the chiapense (my favorite plant of all time)! Syngoniums are ny favorite! I just got a mojito and the wendlandii which is my second go with the wendlandii 😂😂. My poison for pink syngoniums is the Red Spot cos mine has lots of darkish pink splotches and speckles and the leaves are a darker shade of green. My Erythrophyllum is still small as it's relatively new in my collection. And yes a loyalty card from Bunnings from me would be AWESOME just like they do with coffee...every 10th plant I buy should be free 😆 And yeah the Butterfly one here is like a weed, growing EVERYWHERE (at least in Sydney). Am still thinking of getting the Wendlandii but keep passing by it because of its velvetiness. And will definitely look out for the Chiapense! I also have the Frozen Heart which reminds me of your chiapense but it doesn't feel rubbery. But my all time favourite syngonium is the Panda...yeah go figure!

  • @ericunderwood

I don’t have the greatest luck with Syngonium Podophyllum. They survive, but they don’t seem to thrive in my house. I have Neon, Milk Confetti and an unknown one that looks like it might be Maria. I also have a Llano Carti Road which is doing ok. And my FAVORITE one which is Frosted Heart. I think Frosted Heart is a variation of Chiapense, because it has those fabulous rubbery leaves. It has the white frosty pattern to the leaves, particularly the newer leaves, and despite that, it also grows pretty fast. I also very much want a Chiapense Albo! It might be a while, they seem to have gone up in price recently here in the Minneapolis, MN area of the US.

Syngoniums are so pretty. I always wanted one, but they just slipped my mind when purchasing plants. Or it was in my shopping cart, but when it came to pre-checkout cleanup of the cart, it went out again. Last summer I got a Syngonium erthrophyllum and I was immediately in love with those dramatic dark green and red leaves. I love the P. micans for the same reason. It has given me some grief, but that was the planter's fault. Do you know how they sometimes leave the nursery net on the rootball when repotting? With this it wasn't just a net, it was a small, really robust plastic pot. I thought the poor plant was having root rot, because the soil was sogging wet and it showed symptoms of being thirsty. Fortunately I caught it before it came to that, but it still had been a few weeks of this. This little champion was healthy, just a bit uncomfy in the tiny container. So yeah, definitely a hardy plant ❤

.. There's low light, medium light, indirect light, indirect bright light and bright light.. Low light = shaded light, medium light = partly shaded light.. And that is measured by the natural light is outside.. .. The Red Arrow can be a puzzle to find the perfect light, depending of where we live.. I lost few leafs on mine while trying to find the right spot, and still I'm not certain.. But for now, she seems happy on a shelf in a west side room a little sideways from the window out of sun and direct light.. .. My Pink Splash was very pale in the pink when I got her.. Now 2 years later her pale pink colour comes out way darker showing off, it's a wow.. It is a plant that is in no hurry to grow up.. .. All the rest of them I have been waiting to see them grow, since I got them late last year from a local grocery store, and some of them have been struggling over the winter.. The white butterfly takes off as if the devil was coming to get it.. A favourite?? 😳 But I love them all.. I started out with white butterfly and when I watched them grow I fell in love with their different coloured leafs.. Not two leafs are the same.. And once you fall in love, there's no way back..

Mine is in a west facing room, on a shelf left from a window.. She's out of sunlight, so in medium light, as the light she gets is a bit from a grow light away from her.. She seems happy there, but it took me a while to figure it out and lost a few leafs too during that time.. I water when dry (not bonedry - but very dry) with filtered water and obviously a bit of fertilizer..

I love the 3 kings syngonium and my highly variagated mojito very much. I definitely find them to be thirsty and a little unforgiving If you forget to water for too long because there leaves are so thin

For me the chiapense has been slow to propagate in water like Scindapsus but both root quickly in a damp perlite bin.

I resisted syngoniums for a while as most i killed. But trying again, i have the chiapense and also almost killed the frosted chiapese. I,ve put it in clay balls and it appears to be holding its own. Fingers crossed. My fav is "Three Kings" - as its growing bigger it's looking stunning.

I also really like syngonium, much better than pothos. Easier form of the caladium and more color varieties than alocasias. Only one i haven't cracked yet is the Linear Syngonium. But my White Butterfly is the moooooost prolific, bushy baby and my Albo and Wendlandii are just beautifully lobing and variegating ❤.

@@aingealtara1479 That's good to. hear, thanks so much for your feedback! I bought one recently and discovered thrips on it after I got it home. I did check it in the shop, but not as carefully as I should have done. Since it wasn't a rare variety and cost just five bucks, I decided it wasn't worth the risk and the hassle, and binned it :( I have two others, and one on the way.

omg. i LOVE syngonium but hate some of the popular varieties. Pink Perfection beats any of the strawberry, confetti, milkshake varieties for a clear pink. erythrophyllum is just dark and sexy and well behaved. when the price drops, var. chiapense is on the list. Happy Easter, Memo. christos anesti.
