The way that Square Enix treated Tomb Raider and Lara Croft was basically “I love you when you make me look good but other than that I hate you” cuz whenever the series would be praised they would eat up all of the positive feedback but they kept saying that in terms of sales the games were failure due to the high expectations they had set for Tomb Raider because it has one of the most popular characters in gaming history and would badmouth it if it didn’t make a profit essentially treating Lara Croft like the black sheep of the Square Enix family.

right? and they always set such insane expectations too....if Tomb Raider didn't sell 20+ copies to literally everyone on the planet they saw it as a failure/disappointment. Hell, they didn't even try to get Lara into Smash ffs which itself is a travesty

Activision is worse than EA in my opinion. Whereas EA can come up with something good every once in a while, like Titanfall 2 or SW Jedi: Fallen Order (thank Respawn for those two classics), Activision can't. In fact, they'd rather fire multiple employees at once than make something decent for once (other than what they're doing with Crash Bandicoot, which they didn't originally make in the first place).

You can add Rockstar Gamea to that list. With their Shark cards, Gta+ subscription, dropping single player content in favour of online only updates, half assed remasters…..

Agree. My husband was offered a job with one of these years ago but didn't accept it as it would mean relocating internationally. He was so thankful he chose to turn it down after word got out about the way their employees were treated.

Really surprised to not see R* on this list. Maybe it's just too recent to rell, but it's certainly in its worst state yet. The console transfers are horrible due to deleting your progress on the last gen console on gta online. Rdr2 online has been abandoned. There's no communication with the fans that remain. Do I even need to mention gta+? Unfixed glitches and bugs...

@@zacritner208 I just found that the first 2 PS2 games were better designed and more addicting than the third. BTW I would like Paradise if it had a real crash mode.

If I could join only one company to help restore it to its former glory, I’d choose Square Enix without second thoughts! That being said, I hope KH4, FF7 Rebirth, and maybe FF16 can otherwise restore my faith in the company.

I remember playing LotR:BfME I and II and SW:BF 2, as well as The Sims 1 and 2, both of which were great. Some of my first gaming memories were with Warcraft III and TFT, and Diablo. Nowadays, with the endless DLCs, the always online bull, and the consistent lack of quality, to me it seems most of my once beloved studios are nothing but husks.

Square Enix’s philosophy: we can’t fail, we have Final Fantasy & Kingdom Hearts (and Dragon Quest). We also hold the other games you love hostage (like Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG)

Im surprise rockstar games not on the list because they kept milking and gets greedy, they don't patch the annoying glitches that we want them to be patched and they don't listen to us community, they are lazy.

I think it's interesting that the more the list goes down, the problem changes from just making a bunch of bad games to bad working environment

I agree. I don't know about workplace environments and behavior, however Naughty Dog and Ubisoft are STILL my favorite gaming companies. I love every AC game and truly enjoy the Watch Dog series. They definitely should treat their employees better, and the designers should get the respect and credit they deserve, but that doesn't affect how I feel about a game. If we applied that to all entertainment genres, no one could listen to music or ever watch a movie again.

Maybe it’s just me but I’ve been very unhappy with how hard Nintendo is riding its monopoly and disregarding quality control recently

Nitnendo's games are always awesome, however their politics are therrible. They ban fan games (SEGA doesn't do that) because their copyright is exagerately strict. In fact, the same is with Disney.

My excitement for Diablo 4 went straight down the toilet when it was revealed even the single-player campaign would be locked behind the dreaded "always online prison" didn't Activision-Blizzard learn from the disastrous launch of the base version of Diablo 3 that locking the single-player content behind the "always online prison" is a bad idea, the announcement of Diablo Immortal made me face palm with embarrassment and given the game's reviews I'm glad I haven't played it. Warcraft 3: Reforged the updated remaster of one my most favorite games Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos + The Frozen Throne was a disaster on every level. Then there's all the awful crap Activision-Blizzard got in the news for. Seriously it's like Activision-Blizzard went from awesome to a company I don't even like mentioning.

@@brandoncraig8171 The "Always Online Prison" is a term for console games and pc games that require an internet connection to access every bit of content including the single-player content. Games that sadly have this feature include Metal Gear Survive, For Honor, and the base version of Diablo 3 at launch and it's a bad thing to have mostly because you wouldn't be able to play the game if the servers are down or the servers are full and are usually released without stress testing the servers.

And all those new cutscenes that would expand certain character arcs such as Arthas's tragic descent from noble prince forced to make hard calls such as the purge of a certain city to the villainous Lich King they said would be in Warcraft 3: Reforged weren't even added to the game. And take a guess how hyped me and Warcraft fans were when they stated they would add in those new cutscenes to expand those certain characters arcs.

I literally said to myself “Why is EA only at number 5” until you reminded me, yeh they’ve sucked for years… and Konami aren’t a “Video Game” company anymore…

see i don't like that idea, because ea is only further on the list because what another company is doing bad right now. but being complacent and saying, well you know they are not the worst at the moment, is kinda bullshit. ea in my book will always be the worst company, while i do agree that sexual harassment has to be dealt with. using your children as a piggy bank, is fucking disgusting, as unlike adult women, children are in their formative years, where they think being treated like that is normal. but people are only pissed about what is the in thing, like how HIV had it's time in the sun, and then people moved onto cancer, and now it's well fuck HIV patients we don't give a damn about them anymore. it's just focusing on the new in thing to be pissed about.

Honestly Cd project red dosent deserve the hate. The game was heavily pushed by eager buyers into a glitch state and the game has gotten much better with CDs help

Watch the trailers and the devs lying through their teeth about the state of the game, they said tge game ran surprisingly well on ps4 I crashed 4 times , it was 900p and I was using a 4k TV and the glitches

@@drutch5642 key word 'was'. The game was pushed heavily into a glitched state, the game was running poorly. The company offered apologies, refunds and did their best to patch things up. What more do you want them to do? It's still a lot better than some companies who sit there and say nothing and do nothing about it.

@@drutch5642 It also didn't help that the devs and their families were getting death threats because people didn't want the game pushed back. Did they promise too much, maybe. But I can understand why they released it in that state. It's not worth their lives.

Let's not forget that Square Enix ported Kingdom Hearts on Nintendo Switch via the cloud. How can you fuck up a great game on a Nintendo console? I would admit that I haven't played the game on Switch. I mean, I already have Kingdom Hearts on PS4. But, I've heard horror stories of the game being plagued by input lag and unreliability despite strong internet connections. Stadia, much?

Its scary to see how far so many game companies have fallen. Would it even be possible to make a list of 10 companies that we loved and still do love? What a sad state of affairs for us gamers to find ourselves in right now. This was a good video that I wish I had not watched to be honest.

Square Enix, Konami, Capcom, Blizzard, and most of all, EA(evil assholes). Insomniac is one of the only game companies I still have faith in as it kickstarted my childhood with their games, specifically Spyro and Ratchet and Clank.

@@Noazzark Of course I was. My first game handheld was the Nintendo Game Boy Color. Pokemon Red was my favorite game on the Gameboy Color. Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land was a fun joy and the anime, Kirby Right back at Ya! was a fun show on FoxBox. Until 4kids ruins everything.

@@geneschwartz9290 People have issue with the bugs I guess. Fallout 76 was pretty bad too. The paid mods scandal they mentioned I didn't even know about since I've never paid for a mod for any game. Openworld games are pretty hard to debug in general since lots of things can have a ripple effect in coding where you try to fix one thing, but it results in something else being bugged.

Even before Callum started the list, I had a feeling Blizzard would either top it or at least be really high.

Think the only positive thing about e.a. is the fact they allow local gamers to playtest their games and actually reward them for doing so..

I'm kind of in a love-hate with Ubisoft, because I grew up with Rayman and the Rabbids (don't @ me), and I still play Just Dance and have a spot for the Mario + Rabbids series, yet they have been doing micro transactions, season passes, subscription services, and their Uno game is a mixed bag.

It's sad how we all looked up to these companies back in the day. We saw them as the pioneers of the gaming industry. We all thought as technology gets better, their games get better.

Just because Naughty dog made one game hated by fans, does not mean the developer is hated. I still love Naughty dog today.

Yeah it sucks what EA done to Dice and the battlefield franchise. To get a great game you need TIME.

Another thing that was briefly touched upon that lots of game companies are unfortunately doing that brings down the enjoyment factor, is going HARD into profiting off people's nostalgia. So many game companies are just re-releasing older games with the expectation that people's nostalgia will take over and dismiss the flaws in them. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of re-released games that are actually good! But lots are unpolished, bland, and have no changes or updates that enhance the experience and it hurts.

Nexon from South Korea is also one of the most hated video games that a lot of gamers say was awesome at that time. The company is known for ripping-off certain video games CrazyRacing Kartrider (rip-off of Mario Kart Double Dash from Nintendo) is one of the biggest examples. But one of the main reasons for hating the company is because of loot boxes just like EA even in a lower level

I'm glad and surprised that Activision (Now Activision Blizzard), EA, and Ubisoft are on this list. They deserve scron of the fans. BTW, I think Watchmojo should do companies that produces/develops/publishes movies or TVs. The fans once loved them, now hate them.

The only Good thing that these companies did is the they gave the sudden rise of indie developers. Now we have more options of games at least!

Oh I remember the glory days of activision, back then when I played Mw3 and bo2 with my friends all the time, I came back from school, vent to my friends house to play either bo2 or mw3, now when I look at it, I could almost cry for what they have done. Mw2 2022 and warzone 2 are our only hopes at the moment for trying to restore activision to it's former glory

@@PhenomsServant4 IMO they made good games circa the early 2000s, with good licensed games, but I’d say their philosophy began to shift early 2010s as they began to bank on the sports games, micro transactions and rushed games just to make a quick profit.

Amazing video watch mojo of video games companies that are hated fan use to love too, fantastic job. I love the last of us part 2 and cyberpunk 2077 too.

Make a list of video game companies fans (still) love

Really awful how gaming companies treat employees. I get that 1) yeah, a lot of tech corporations do that and well, 2) uhh, corporations do that. But gaming companies seem to be especially bad, with their crunch schedules, misogyny, discrimination. In many ways, companies like Blizzard exploit the passion of their incoming employees (Blizzard tax, which made it so workers were paid less than other companies since they had the privilege of working for Blizzard). They also take fan passion for granted as well. And not at all surprised since they were LOVED by fans - not just the games but the company as well, but one thing after another tarnished it and they pissed off some of their most loyal fans. I wasn't surprised that EA was at 5. I was surprised that it was considered a studio that "Fans used to love." I love a lot of games, even many from EA (Sims, before they got ridiculous in milking, Burnout 3 and Revenge, etc.) but I never loved the company. I think we as people CAN do better, so companies can make decent profit, workers can be happy and healthy and work in an environment where ideas and creativity flow freely, and passion doesn't turn to burning out and panic attacks, plus other health issues. They can make products that can keep customer loyalty, rather than exploiting them, buying and destroying beloved studios, milking franchises. But it's become all about the investor calls (see the timing of certain things . . .) and less about making the best product they can, and having a reputation as a company worth respect and loyalty while taking care of their own people. But these are all choices, and we'll see what they do in the future.

I still stand by Square Enix to this day. The Kingdom Hearts game series is my reason to not lose faith in it.

Cancel This Company would agree with you. I would also add Nintendo for being a bunch of semiwoke, pretentious cheapskates. So glad that most grown-ups have changed their nostalgic ways, came to their senses and grew out of Nintendo crap.

Game companies need to understand: the days when they can stay secretive are over. Mistreatment of employees and crunching game makers (only to lay them off after a game's release so the upper echelon can keep all the profits) won't fly with players anymore. We know and see all of it now.

Activision is hated more based on how they were just focused on breaking the game to make money instead of making the game fun, at this point it is just embarrassing

wow I can't believe that this happens to them but on the box of each game they sell it looks good but when you hear the stories it's bad.

Is the basement where Todd and Pete are kept unless they are needed to speak to the public 😂

I love Jrpg's, but I stopped trusting Square Enix with them for all their greedy microtransactions in recent games. Chocobo GP was the last drop for me. So I don't care anymore, even if Live a Live becomes the greatest Jrpg ever.

The main thing I will praise Square Enix for is Final Fantasy XIV: "A Realm Reborn" and onward because not many mainstream multi-billion dollar game developers actively play their own games and connect with their fans like the FFXIV director and producer Yoshi P. The XIV team actively listen to their fans and even went out of their way to kill the toxicity among the fanbase as best they can (There will always be a loud miserable asshole among any fandom no matter what it is lol). Frankly, a lot of game developers should learn from the examples of Yoshi P and his team and follow suit instead of being all "Screw you! Your money is now mine to do as I please with!"

Surprised to see EA so low but you made a good point, they just don’t care anymore. But yeah Blizzard is awful. Single handily have killed theTony Hawk Franchise right when it became amazing again.

It baffles my mind that they see an unfinished game then send it out. Executives are like junkies waiting fir a fix. Instead of waiting and releasing gold abd most likely making more money they release a game unfinished to collect quick money. Then its on to the next.

I’m surprised that Rockstar didn’t appear on this list. The godawful GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition which is remastered phone games, GTA+, abandoning Red Dead Online and milking GTA 5 are some of the reasons why they’re so hated.

Im happy that Activision Blizzard is at Number 1. Not only that - im fuming about Overwatch 2 and how not only is Blizzard not supporting all streamers that plays the game, but it also not listening to players that wants to keep Overwatch playable even after Overwatch 2 comes out

You missed a golden opportunity to educate people on the history of many of these companies. With Blizzard you missed the reason people turned on the company was they stopped making great games. If Warcraft 3: Reforged would have been want people were promised and if Diablo Immortal would have only been as greedy as Genshin Impact then Blizzard is probably able to keep most of the work environment issues out of the public eye Activision was beloved in the 80s making the best Atari 2600 games like Pitfall, HERO, River Raid, and my personal favorite as a kid Decathlon EA time to shine came in the 90s with their sports franchises becoming the gold standard and their lawsuit against Sega's cartridge standards gave them anti-establishment cred. Blizzard, whose heyday was around the turn of the century well before the Activision merger, was THE company whose work PC gamers would trust sight unseen, regardless of delays. During this time Blizzard also developed Battlenet for free, giving the road map to others on the future of multiplayer gaming. You even missed the reason people turned on the company. they stopped making great games you would buy once and have years of entertainment. @@Rgoid Resident Evil 7 and 8, Monster Hunter World and Rise, and the early reviews of Street Fighter 6 have been positive. I would say Capcom is pretty much right where they were after admittedly stumbling in the early 2000's.

Naughty Dog and Bethesda and Electronic Arts and Konami has disappointed me the most on the PS3 or on the PS4

My late sister used to LOVE Blizzard back in the '00s, particularly WoW. She was a high level player (although I don't know the specifics because WoW isn't my kind of game) and incredibly active in her guild, raiding with them almost every night under the name "Lordes". After she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, her guild provided the outside support system she needed _in addition to_ the one she had _within_ our family, and the game itself was a distraction for her as she went through chemo, a mastectomy, and preparation for radiation. She passed away in 2010 after the tumor came back and metastasized to her liver, lungs, bones, and brain so rapidly that she went from walking and talking to catatonic to _gone_ in only four days. I fortunately had a friend who played WoW who was able to contact her guild in-game to tell them what had happened. They later held a memorial for her, also in-game. I've always been thankful that Blizzard's downfall didn't happen until _after_ she had passed away, so she didn't have to witness it. It would have absolutely broken her heart. 😞

Didn't forget Bethesda shut down the sequal to Prey (2006) called Prey 2 when it was basically finished. Now if you beat the 2006 game your met with "Prey will return" to be continued screen wich is a reminder of what could have been.

Okay Square Enix did state their interested in NFT'S but it's not tied to why they sold off Tomb Raider, Deus Ex or Theif. Also "Maybe you're surprised to see one of the most hated gaming companies at number 5 (EA)" actual sorta but I'm kinda thought CD Projekt would be higher on the list too.

To be fair, Skyrim is a fantastic game that deserved its multiple ports. Fallout 76, on the other hand, is a game so disasterous, it nearly killed Bethesda's entire reputation, something not worth defending. Hopefully Starfield is good, because Bethesda severely needs another win at this point, especially with Microsoft owning them.

I'm quite surprised that Capcom wasn't on the list. Capcom might have messed up after they've cancelled Mega Man Legends 3 on the Nintendo 3DS when the 3DS had a very rocky launch, released Street Fighter X Tekken with Bad Box Art Mega Man as to me it was a fun joke character, cancelled Mega Man Universe which is going to be our Mario Maker but with Mega Man until Nintendo and fans did Super Mario Maker and Mega Man Maker and Maverick Hunter done by Armature Studio which sadly got scrapped, Mega Man Online is a no go, so does Star Force 4. Thank god Capcom stop the DLC crap as it was getting stale by releasing Street Fighter 5 as I might get the season pass to unlock all fighters but not right now, The Mega Man franchise legacy collections, making Resident Evil great again by returning it back to its survivor horror roots with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil 8: Village as I can't wait for Street Fighter 6. I wish Capcom should revitalize Dino Crisis as Dino Crisis 3 destroyed the series. Battling dinosaurs in space? Really? A new Breath of Fire game would've been nice if it wasn't on mobile! Hell Morrigan needs more love as she needs her new game with Darkstalkers 4. I could say the same that we do need Mega Man X9 and Mega Man ZX3 as I know Capcom is busy making Mega Man 12 with the RE engine. Sadly No Dead Rising 5 that series is dead and it's a good thing because after Dead Rising 2 that's when the series went downhill.

I don't see Konami lasting in the gaming industry for very long. Gotta say though, I'm surprised SEGA's not on here, but they can't be doing that bad.

Agreed at most on Actiblizz, cuz it's develop corporate Greed that rivals EA Speaking of Square enix, we can ask Hiro Nakamura from Heroes to time travel and ask Square to cancel FF the Spirits Within so Squaresoft won't become Square Enix

Grand theft auto was fun, but way… too much to play this with family around… . Also, call of duty used to be good, but not anymore due to not so good anti cheat that doesn’t do anything at all… .

I don't think Bethesda should be on this list but I know they are because I've seen the internet and they do not allow a single failure and don't get into the context of anything. And it's not like Bethesda hasn't been publishing good games after 76. I love how people just ignore Fallout 4 like it doesn't exist or it was somehow bad Mods should undeniably be paid for because it supports the mod authors who don't get a fucking dime otherwise.

Honestly, Konami Should be Number 1 on this List and the Only reason is What they did with Our Favourite franchises in the Past and what PES has become now. Efootball 2022 did not turn out to be what it was promised to be...

Projekt Red I have to honestly disagree with rubbed fans badly. Yes Cyberpunk was a disaster. However They are human and made mistakes yet they handled it with customers the right way and rerfunded us all for the failures. That in my opinion is why Projekt Red deserves our utmost respect and loyalty not our anger. It takes a certain level of nobility to handle failure so well. What very well could have destroyed them reminded many of us why we consumers respect them.

It’s tragic to see CD Projekt Red , yes Cyberpunk 77 was a disaster at launch thanks to the impatient community and also themselves for giving so much expectations, yeah 6 years of making a game and you’ll get a Bethesda game . Good point they are still fixing that game and gotta say the story and setting is really good even they made an anime hope see much more from them and Witcher 4 is on the way
