    The flak jacket got me thinking about Steve McNair. They say it became standard later on and protects your ribs and sternum. I remember Steve used to get alot of bruised sternums so that tells me Steve used to take some real hard hits and kept on coming. He should be on this list

  • @craighenry2351
    @craighenry23512 жыл бұрын

    Not one of these guys should be doubted till you walk in their shoes. First let me say I was not aware that so many people played through broken leg bones or injured knee ligaments. I knew about Jack Youngblood, but that was it. I also remember Dan Pastorini and the first use of a flak jacket in the NFL. I mention Brett Favre not to belittle what he did but to say I thought this was more about playing through physical, not mental pain. I thought Bret’s performance would fit more into a most inspirational performance category, but since the title of the video makes no such differentiation, I accept it. Anyone who has lost a loved one knows how devastating it is. Kudos to Brett and anyone else who did the same. I am awed by all of these performances. I wondered about Terrell Davis, initially, but rethought it. I have never had a migraine, but from all accounts it can lay you out and make it impossible to do anything. Yet Terrell gutted through it. I always went back and forth on Kellen Winslow, but I don’t doubt he should be on this list, just maybe lower, at number 8 or so. Still, maybe I was wrong. Who knows how close to danger he might have been. It is too bad he and San Diego had to play in the conditions they did the next week. I can tell you it was bad. Donavan McNabb and Phillip Rivers, insane what they did. Maybe they both should be higher. Ronnie Lott, now that takes when Rocky had Mick cut him to a real level. He did anything he had to, to play. Gayle Sayers doesn’t seem so bad, but you have to think about it. First he tore 3 ligaments. Then the surgical techniques at that time were much more invasive, especially for 3 ligaments. I’m sure his knee was laid wide open. His recovery was probably much more akin to what Jaylon Smith went through. Yet he came back the next year. Incredible. Finally, I knew well about Jack Youngblood and what he did. I did not know about playing the Pro Bowl. He was either, gutsy, insane or really loved the game. That brings me to Emmitt. Originally not knowing all of these gutsy performances, I put him behind only Youngblood, but now I am OK with anywhere in the top five. Emmitt’s performance proved what we Cowboy fans always knew about him. No running back has more heart and I believe only Walter Payton is his equal in this area. That is where he is at the top of his position. And he didn’t shy away. He didn’t run out of bounds. He even led with his shoulder and did this without it being numbed up. Amazing. Also amazing to anyone on this list and the many who aren’t. Gutsy performances all.

    We football players may be looked at as crazy for playing the game with injuries but the thing is that some of us are smart enough to know what pain we can get through and what injuries we can’t play on. I played the game with a mild concussion and a bruised ankle which are not terrible injuries but these college and NFL players played through worst stuff than me because they were dedicated to winning. That’s all that mattered to them. Heck Ronnie Lott lost a body part just to get back on the field because that’s how much the game mattered to him.

  • @GTAnativeInXboxAndPlayStation

    These are sure as hell gutsiest performances since their careers could’ve ended because they didn’t want to stop playing. Didn’t think about their bodies.

    Ronnie Lott had a legitimate surgical procedure to have the tip of his pinky finger amputated. It was just the tip and not his entire finger. And anyone who thinks that he had it chopped off on the sidelines during a game is simply wrong.

    This is not to take away from anyone on the list, but take a look at the career of Jim Marshall (Mn Vikings). Start with the fact that he played from 1961 to 1979 and never missed a start, including playoffs, that is 302 straight starts. Then the fact that one week he was hospitalized with pneumonia and played that week. Or the time he accidentally shot himself in the side and the streak continued. He epitomizes what guts means.

  • @MrJLov13

    You gotta look at the circumstances of the injuries before you judge LT's injury against Rivers's injury. Rivers was in a position where he could just stand in the pocket and throw, he didn't have to do a lot of cutting and moving around most of the game. LT's game is based solely around cutting on a dime and change of direction and making guys miss in the open field. You can't compare the two injuries because they're two completely different injuries.

Now, when a helmet is ripped off, the play is blown dead, ASAP.
