Top 10 FREE Things in Stockholm | Budget Travel Guide
Sweden is an expensive country to visit, and Stockholm is the most expensive city in Sweden. This is a list of the top 10 completely free things to do in Stockholm!
Stockholm has gorgeous nature, an exciting history dating back to the 1200s, and lots of free culture to explore. In this list I'm including a wide range of experiences, for all seasons, and for all kinds of visitors.
The places included in this list are:
- Visit Östermalmshallen, a lovely food market
- Explore the island of Långholmen, which used to be a prison island
- Attend open sessions at Parliament - or just enjoy the view
- Kungsträdgården has events and shows and lots of things to enjoy - all for free
- The island of Royal Djurgården is gorgeous. Don't miss the Rosendal Castle!
- See the world's longest art gallery...in the form of the Stockholm subway art
- Check out all the free museums at Skeppsholmen, such as the Museum of Modern Art. Or just walk around and see all the historical boats anchored here
- Marvel at the 18th century Drottningholm Castle and its surrounding garden
- Pay a visit to the Medieval Museum...without paying anything at all
- And finally, find out all there is to see in Stockholm Old Town. Such as Sweden's smallest public monument, or Sweden's oldest public toilet
Things not included in this list are, for example, the Stockholm architecture and famous viewpoints on the island of Södermalm. But you can see more about that in these videos instead:

December 25 you might be able to find nice church music for free, for example. And there will be wintery parks to enjoy, and excellent views of a snowy Stockholm (if there's snow). It's really difficult to say actually - some years it's quite warm in May, and some years we even get snow. This March has been very cold, but it's heating up now. I'd go for a light coat but warm sweaters, gloves and a scarf or something like that - so that she's prepared for varying weather.

I hope you're going to love it here in February! It is quite expensive but it's possible to live cheap as well even though it takes some effort to find the right places. I'd love to see NZ - it's a bit problematic to get to since it's all the way around the world, but I hear such good things about it! I hope you like snow btw... February is typically quite a snowy month here! 😀
