Top 10 Flies for Autumn Sea Trout Fishing - My favorite flies for the Gotland Coastline during fall

These are my top 10 flies for autumn sea trout on Gotland. September to November can be a great time to catch sea trout but they can be both tricky to find and more selective on what they take compared to other parts of the year. I have selected a range of flies I believe will be good for the entire period from the warm water in September to the cold and dark November. You find the flies and fly tying videos to each fly here:

Excellent informative video as always Robert. I really appreciated the underwater shots of the flies in action. It really helps to give an idea as to how the sea trout see them.

Good to see the younger generation carrying on and creating their own patterns! I am in the autumn of my time but I am still seeking new perspectives on fly tying and fishing! Carry on! Tight lines!

Great lesson, thanks! I would be very much interested in a video about the retrieve techniques you use for different kind of flies. I often use the same ”standard streamer strip retrieve”, but I guess there is a more advanced way do match the retrieve with the respective type of fly …

what about late spring and summer fishing ? the trout season in scotland begins in march and ends in october to allow for spawning so most of my seatrouting is done during the warmer months apart from early march

Thanks for the informative video! Do you have any tips for casting the jiggy fly? I have big problems casting whenever I tie on a jiggy fly. The leader doesn’t unroll like it does with other flies, it simply feels to heavy despite me having 0,35 tippet. Do you use a different setup when casting a jiggyfly? Shorter leader, heavier leader? Would be grateful for some tips…

Hi. Glad you liked the video. It is a fly that is harder to get going in the cast. Extending the length of the casting stroke with a kept straight rod tip path will improve the delivery of a heavy fly. Option 2. Adjust to a shorter leader Option 3. Tie them less heavy
