Yeah, nice stuff - was expecting a lot more unique stuff, but hey, it’s nice it’s all in one package for RED - brings a couple things to the cutting edge again. Phone as monitor, ProRes (with Atomos) I can do on my GH5 for instance so you’d hope this is slightly more of a given going forward. From the tests I’ve seen, Autofocus still needs working on from RED, it’s got so good elsewhere - Sony/Canon and the LiDar systems - that the bar needs to be met now without it feeling like a gross loss!

Well the Komodo is 16 bit vs the 12 bit on the Blackmagic, plus you have to consider the Komodo also sports significantly higher dynamic range for the colors and highlights to roll off even smoother.

Komodo is a good camera, same like many other camera in the market especially from 2020. But there are something I have to mention. 1, You don't need hot swap battery if your camera can be turned off and on in seconds like other brand. Two batteries is a horrible waste of space design in any camera in the industry. Internal ND is a ture life saver, not a extra battery spot. Any camera can use 1-2 v mount battery for a entire day, I think you will have that 10 sec free to swap battery out of your 10 hours working, unless your camera will take very very long time to reboot, like red. 2, Rolling shutter has been used in most of the camera, same like 24p been used in most of the films. People still use 24p instead of 60p for a reason, 60p or 120p movie is way more claer, but people still love the 24p feeling. Gloable shutter is not hard to do, these big company and brand dont use it because it's not really that needed for camera user or audience. 3, Red raw is OK, Red color is 16 bit liner, which is almost the same as black magic raw's 12 bit( I forgot what it's called but it's 100% not liner), no one wins. Braw can recover insanly amount of over exposed highlight, R3D is not. But for a pro editor, any codec is the same, they will get the job done as long as the file was been properly recorded. 4, Camera size is as good as zcam, which I personally love as well, but price is not, to be honest, the external and internal material and parts quality can be very much at the same level with zcam consider what Red dsmc used to give us, you know, worst monitor in the industry, 500% priced ssd, and super bugged interface/program etc. 5, I believe you can do pretty much the same level of color pushing with canon/black magic/arri either log or raw today. The cameras today can produce very capable files regardless of the brand. At least no one in the commercial or film industery requies only Red color, most of them prefer Arri color because its less "styled" so they can apply whatever color style that client need. With Red file, if your client happens want a "red style" then your will get the job done really awsome. It depends on your client group eg most music video today perfer "Red style". 6, You can also matching different brands' color lot easier today. Maybe required more effort back in 2016, but definintly not today. 7, Prores codec exeist many years in many cameras already. It's a very common thing which no need to be mentioned as a major feature in a camera today. 8, The best menu is black magic, and it's respond very quick for touching control. Komodo's menu is better than dsmc, but still very laggy like an 10 year old entry level phone. So this is only a good feature compare to old RED camera. 9, Use your phone as monitor is a very smart option for ameature level or entry level devices. But it is very helpful that Komodo offers this option because its inbody monitor is a joke for real use. However, the APP in the pnone is a good one to use, way better than the menu in the camerra itself, probably done outside of RED. 10, Auto focus is very very good consider that people was expecting something like BMPCC's auto focus performance. But still not useable for real work, it's performance very much like canon eos 6D when on tripod. It's a real good step up for red tho. In conclusion, most of the information is only viable if you compare to red cameras only. I think you works with red way more than other cameras, which limited your understanding of workflow, technique etc over other brands. 2020 is an amazing year for filmmaker if we talking about gears. I'd say gear didn't really change much from 2015-2019, but 2020 is totaly different story, Back in 2019, Komodo was a shockwave, but in 2020, it's like an 5 year old camera already.
