Top 10 Fastest Cars on the Touge

What are the fastest cars to brave the mountain passes of Japan in real life? Today we find out! - Top 10 Fastest Cars on the Touge
I really enjoyed making a video on the Story of Time Attack and Under Suzuki ( • The Story of Time Atta... ) and the supportive comments it received got me thinking of what else I could look at - so this time I wanted to move away from the track and look the fastest cars for carving mountain roads, or touges as they're known in Japan.
This form of illegal racing was highlighted in the anime/manga Initial D. I really enjoyed the show, but it always made me wonder which car really would be the fastest in real life. Best Motoring's Hot Version has given us some great insight into what makes a Touge Monster of the years (or Maou as the called the top dog) and this list represents the research (binge watching) I did on their videos to try to compare the fastest sector times. There are still a lot of what ifs and cars that haven't had a chance or didn't want to risk it, but I found it really interesting what cars excelled on the winding downhill roads. I hope you enjoy the video half as much as I enjoyed making it, thanks for watching!

some facebook friends i met from a japan once raced a silvia in a touge with his sports bike. To everyone surprises, both of them are beaten by a random delivery guy driving a daihatsu kei car. Too bad he forgot the name of the car

Great video, great cars. But the Seeker FD2 has to be one of the most special cars on the touge simply because they took the hated FF and menaced all but 5 faster cars. The kind of balance you need to build into a FF chassis to be faster than so many MR and FR cars is a next level of work.

What happened to it
Js racing S2K was the biggest reason why I own one today. Its my dream car and an amazing piece of art and machinery.
great video, the only thing I want to say is that yes Gunsai it's a touge but it's not like the others, most togue have big downhills (or uphills if you strat from below) while Gunsai has some parts in downhill but many others in uphill where the engine it's even more important.

In my area most mountain passes are actually pretty leveled with small inclines and declines throughout like gunsai. I only know of one pure downhill and uphill mountain pass in my area.

Thanks! And I agree - the info to make this list is taken from a small sample size and a very short sector from a single touge. Maybe one day it would be interesting to look at a different touge of sorts that is equally well documented, like Pikes Peak or something...
Amazing video , you perfectly managed to bring up the tension and made fever with the drivers , my personal favorite always has been the feed rx7 and it’s just amazing to see the precision driving and the results !
You’re my new fave channel. All of your “summoning salt but for cars” videos are top notch, love them and can’t wait for more. Keep it up
"Touges are for hachirokus" yes, yes they are.
As an MR-S owner, I'm really happy seeing one be so dominant on the touge. Yes the car factory is underpowered, but even so it is too damn fun. I would highly suggest buying one, just make sure the precats are either dealt with already, or they haven't started killing the engine when you buy it. It's the only issue they really have, as even stock, I've oversteered once, that was in the rain, and on purpose until my lack of experience caused it to snap back. Still saved it tho. Crazy fun little cars.
Amazing work🎉
I'm so much in love this stories. Great content Moon!
Well explained and beautifully put together.Fantastic job.
Awesome video! I've always loved Initial D, JDM cars and touge runs. Just subbed 💥✌
Incredible video, thank you for your effort in putting this together.
Loving your channel & the videos you've been making. I'm thankful you seem to care about giving the culture & individuals involved the credit they deserve. I'm even more thankful you didn't botch the videos as many non Japanese and or non-die hard JDM enthusiasts have done in the past. As your first 2 videos cover 4 of the most important subjects in my adult life: Tsukuba circuit, time attack, touge, & hot version at first i was just thankful that you did these subjects justice with detailed and accurate information & the passion of a true enthusiast. Now watching both videos back to back I'm very impressed & thankful for what you are doing, putting information that took me years to obtain downsized into 2 short videos while still being detailed and capturing the spirit of time attack & touge w/ short clips from numerous videos to tell the stories well. Making consumable sized videos of historically challenging to attain longer video in a manner that will hopefully help form the next generation of JDM tuner enthusiast & keep the culture & industry alive & well for as many years as possible

There are so many beautiful things when it comes to the touge cars. One, the top fastest cars are not even modern cars, yet outperform them. Two, the best part yet, they are keep getting faster and faster even though they are already so damn fast!
Thanks for the great video

I owned that model of MR2 for a few years. Really really taught me how to drive. Corners so hard!
5:20 well the brake issue that he was talking about could’ve been fixed with either a longer or a wider set of brake hoses for the rear. The added overall volume would have taken a slight portion of the pressure away from the rear. Enough for the fraction of a second that he was talking about.
@DocDucky

Dude. Ive never even though of the length/ diameter of brake lines. That makes sense, if theres more fluid theres more adjustability/ delay from braking force and if theres less then its snappier and more rapid.... interesting.
@Hipsters_N_Hippies
Жыл бұрын
@@DocDucky yes, that plays a role. however It’s not only the amount of fluid. It’s also the expansion of the material holding it. More rubber = more expansion (the complete opposite idea of steel braided hoses)
@DocDucky
Жыл бұрын
@@Hipsters_N_Hippies shit i just learned something important. Ive been trying to figure out what brake setup imma use in my 88 a70 but now im definitely not only going to keep rotor/ caliper size in mind but the hoses and their material too.
@Hipsters_N_Hippies
Жыл бұрын
@@DocDucky a larger brake caliper with a larger piston or multiple piston brake calipers also require a larger volume of liquid to move the same amount of distance. So they also had to make brake master cylinders that can move more fluid out. I could keep this conversation going for a while. And even show how to get more Whp and acceleration with certain brake modifications. Lol There is so much to it....well everything with a car. EVERYTHING has an equal and opposite reaction.
@DocDucky
Жыл бұрын
@@Hipsters_N_Hippies hell yeah especially since there's some brake setups that arent even oe or close. For example im doin the s500 4 piston brembos, with either a stock master cyl and 350z rotors. So that setups gonna be pretty odd especially since thats only the front.
Wow I had no idea that it was even possible to get the same exact time. That fact alone is amazing and such a great story.

All great cars and to see the spirit and resolve to do the best by these teams brings a whole new level of inspiration to the sport.. if I could pick a favorite it would be the FD with that rotary however the market is premium price and I don't see that changing. The MRS is the most atainable and arguably the best price for the level of enjoyment you can get from it.
The demon king has been my favorite car for a long time and ive always wanted to tune up an s2k to be like it
GOOD VID WOW
I’m not into this and i’ve never seen initial d even though i hear about it all the time, but man it’s awesome to hear my car and my dream car tied perfectly in the top 2, and to hear an s2k takes up two spots in the top 10 brings a smile to my face.
The rivalry of fujita engineering and j's racing alone is a movie material
I actually watched a ton of the togue wars it was great
I’d love to see a Foxbody or sn-95 or new edge mustang with the “aluminator” engine…all aluminum DOHC 32v V8 with the independent rear suspension, they are light and with the right steering rack they would hurt a lot of feelings out there
Wow I expected to see RE Amemiya RX7 somewhere on this list, but these are some bonkers fast cars on the list.
Loved initial d. This was perfect.
Weirdly enough, the weight reduction on that 86 seems just as expensive as a turbo or supercharger. If those are carbon fiber doors, trunk and hood, those can be as much as 4 to 6k if you get them all in one purchase. But then again you can still maintain the reliability of your engine since it's untouched (except for the tune)
That rivalry deserves a movie.
that 24'672 record is batshit crazy
I owned a ae86' learned stick in it basically a more practical miata such a pleasure to drive 'now I have a civic si 'fun family car great video 'wish those old ae86 weren't so expensive now
