@@nsasupporter7557 The reason for that, the most popular consoles are about the quality of story-based single player games or online gameplay. Consoles like Wii U were made for playing with friends and family, which tend to be overlooked by most gamers who are typically known for sitting alone in their room playing videogames all day. Which is a shame, because rounding up a couple friends and family for a game together will always be more fun, no matter how much of a storytelling masterpiece God of War or The Last of Us is at the end of the day. And that’s coming from someone from someone who finished The Witcher 3 DLCs included. I have fonder memories of playing Just Dance with my buddies lol

I remember when we first played the MGS on my PSOne and their jaws dropping just with the intro, that they switched over to Sony too. I was so young back then and always thought that the Sega/Nintendo rivalry would continue forever, never thought my Playstation would dethrone them both. I held off asking my parents for a Nintendo 64 until 1998 or so, because I was so happy with my playstation. The late 90’s and early 00’s were an interesting time for gaming.

Wii U, Gamecube, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS Vita, PSP are few of the consoles and handhelds that had some amazing games but they sold poorly on the market compared to their competitors. Most other systems that fail on the market just had poor design and poor games that didn't run well on the system. However there are a few honorable mentions, the Neo Geo was amazing in games and hardware, but was too friggin expensive while the PC Engine was called the Turbo Graphix in the Western countries and it too had amazing games but suffered due to poor marketing as well as Nintendo and SEGA as their competition in important markets outside of their native Japan.

You’re forgetting the utter dumpster fire that is the Commodore 64GS. The system was literally a Commodore 64 with the keyboard and floppy drive taken out released in 1990 when 16-bit consoles and computers were already out to market. Unsurprisingly, it sold exactly 2000 lifetime units. Honorable mention goes to the Commodore CDTV, which was a competitor to the Phillips CD-i that sold only 30,000 units.

I remember the time in December of 2012, my parents told my brother and I that they did try out the Wii U while my brother and I were sleeping. When they try setting it up, it wasn't working. My brother and I were disappointed because the Wii U was really good. Years later before I heard about the Nintendo Switch, my dad and I were thinking about buying a Wii U, but my brother told us that he heard that it is shutting down and the Wii U turned out to be a fail. We were all like that we weren't the only ones who had problems with the Wii U, and we all thought that Nintendo released it a little bit too soon.

A little surprising not to see GameCom on here. And if there were honorable or dishonorable mentions the PS Vita would be a great choice for that as well as maybe the GameCube just for the fact that Nintendo was in quite a bad position with how poorly that system sold being behind even the original XBOX, but then again the GameCube honestly is a massive success compared to these other consoles on the list. By the way in my hometown of Santa Rosa I was the first person to buy a Wii U at Target, but honestly it was pretty clear even then hardly anyone was interested considering how much harder it was to get a Wii at launch in comparison. I enjoyed my Wii U but yeah it was very flawed. Most games didn't even utilize the Gamepad

I wouldn't say that the Wii U almost killed Nintendo. They were in business since before any of us were even born. I just don't remember how long, but they definitely have deep pockets. I liked the Wii U. I played the absolute hell out of Mario Kart 8, Mario Maker, Super Luigi U, Star Fox Zero, Nintendo Land, Super Smash Bros, and whatever games I could get on the virtual console. Up until my ex roommate/ex friend who busted my gamepad. I tend to think the Wii U was just a preview of what was to eventually become the Switch.

The commodore CD32 of 1993 is the saddest failure. Like the later Xbox, it was a computer repackaged as a console. Very advanced, but commodore was hit with a patent lawsuit over the “blinking cursor”, and a judge ruled that all the consoles should be warehouses until the courts worked out the issue. Commodore went bankrupt fighting the frivolous lawsuit and the cd32 never made it to market in the US. (Some to Europe and Japan though)
