As a pet care professional, this is mostly accurate. Except for the Danes. They are NOT apartment dogs.

Unless it's a massive apartment like penthouse sizes Danes do not belong in apartments

Bit disappointed in this one Ms Mojo. There were a couple errors on dogs shown versus named. Greyhounds and Great Danes are not ideal for apartments. Several dog breeds listed are known for hereditary / overbreeding health issues. What happened to Yorkies, Chihuahuas or Dachshunds?

3:37-3:49 The dog in the segment is a Weimaraner (a way smaller hunting dog breed), not a Great Dane.

Surprised Welsh Corgis didn't make the list.

In the segment on greyhounds you showed not just greyhounds but whippets and the very small Italian greyhounds, vastly different breeds with different requirements.

As a parent of a Bichon Frise, I totally agree that they are great dogs. Friendly to dogs and human, they don't shed or drool much. I do live in a house, although I can say that my dog don't need large spaces. Wherever I am, there he would be, as he is my shadow.

The video was likely pressed for time, but the genetic defects common to these breeds should be discussed. It's a rare Cavalier that does not have heart issues at some point. The brachycephalic conformation (smoosh face) dogs have issues with breathing. Bulldogs have issues with breeding. Pups are generally born through caesarean.

I have an Akita/AmStaff mix. She's done well as an apartment dog minus fur everywhere. Don't count out mixed breeds.

Can def agree on the Boston terrier .. I just lost mine after 14 yrs to just old age he ended up going blind on both eyes and I would lead him around and he actually became quite good at getting around on his own .. very very smart dog and breed .. he was the best and the perfect dog in our townhouse apartment. Miss him so much his name was Buddie. Such an awesome little guy..

My sister has a Havanese and a shihtzu. The Havanese is much calmer - total lap dog. Both dogs are sweethearts - the shihtzu is crazy though lol

The big thing about beagles is they are very curious and if not exercised properly, they can be destructive. I have a beagle mix. She has never barked excessively, she's never been into toys. She LOVES her walks and food.

I don't agree with the premise for this video. I have had a German shepherd living in a small apartment. No matter the weather I got dressed and went outside for a mix of physical and mental exercise. Then I had one in a much bigger apartment. Guess what? Same drill required! When I visited family with big gardens... Same drill again. Your personality and activity level are more important than the living arrangements.

Pugs and greyhounds are my favourite type of dogs. 🐶

Your segment on greyhounds is not in the least correct. They do NOT need a lot of exercise, but are in fact usually happy to laze around for long periods. Please do NOT take them to an open area to run-they are very fast, and you may never see them alive again if you do so. And so on. However, they are perfect dogs for small spaces, so that at least is right.

Thank you for the update, MsMojo..!! Back in 1987, my family had a chance to live with the cutest chihuahua puppy for about 24 hours. The puppy refused to go to sleep unless he was sleeping and pooping on my father's stomach for some reason, so we sent him back to the breeder the next morning. The visibly upset breeder only gave us 60% of the money we spent to buy the puppy, so we left with 60% without saying anything. That was our first and the last family dog ever.

Bulldogs aren't lazy dogs. They just can't breath very well and need to be continuously monitored in extreme temperatures that they don't overheat or freeze because they can't regulate their breathing very well.

While I’ve never owned one, I’m surprised Newfoundland dogs aren’t on the list. Yes, they’re big dogs, but they’re known to be perfectly fine in apartments and don’t need too much exercise. If you live near a lake or pond, then taking them there is a must during warm weather. They don’t do so well in heat, and require a lot of grooming, but in spite of their large size, they are great apartment dogs.

Shih tzus are absolutely NOT “famously barky.” I’m speaking as someone who grew up with them: I’ve been around them since 1974 and we’ve had a total of 19 (counting mine, my parents’, my aunt’s, and my grandma’s). Shih tzus are meant to bark in play (acceptable) or when they need a potty break (acceptable) and may even bark when the doorbell rings, though only a few of ours have done that. They are not, however, yappy little dogs who bark just to hear themselves bark. My current one *never* barks at the doorbell or anything else. Hell, we have deer, bunnies, and squirrels who hang out in our back yard and he’ll just sit quietly at the sliding glass door to watch them. So no, 50 years of being around shih tzus says they’re not “famously barky.”

Way too many brachycephalic breeds. It is criminal what happened to the bulldog through so much poor breeding (same with the German Shepherd... among a plethora of others.) The fact that they are banned from flying and illegal to breed in countries that value animal welfare (at least more than the US) should tell you something. Also, while I know this was specific to various breeds, the number of euthanized dogs in shelters officially passed those of cats. To put it in perspective, my small county euthanizes to the tune of 40 cats and 20 dogs every single day. (These numbers have recently averaged out to about 38 cats and 42 dogs a day now.) This is just a small county shelter... multiply that by how many shelters in the world and you'll have a good idea of just how insane the issue actually is. You can quite often find a purebred breed at shelters (or if you're dead set on a particular breed, you can look up rescues by breed. Almost every area covers most of the common breeds at the very least.) Don't promote the backyard/irresponsible breeding/puppy mills. It'd be a good idea to let people have an idea of a baseline amount it would cost to own a dog for its entire natural life so people understand that it needs to be spayed/neutered, receive regular vet care, food, supplies, and some common health issues so that they can better be prepared before making a spontaneous decision to get a dog and then end up having it in the shelter by their 2nd X-mas.

Um pls don’t promote the breeding/keeping of cruel breeds like bulldogs(!)… they suffer so much and it’s immoral to support that.

@@jenniferferguson1517 so many reasons. Here a few. The flat faces make them breathing impaired due to not having a proper nose and most of them have to have a surgery at somepoint to help them breathe (but it doesn’t cure them). Another problem is that due to the size of their head at birth they often can’t be delivered naturally or have great pain. There are countless articles, studies and vet papers urging people to stop this unethical breeding. Dog breeds like that have been created purely for appearance and the animals are the ones that suffer. I mean there is a reason why there are even countries that banned the breeding of these types of dogs.

There are so, so many errors in this video. The Great Danes shown were not all Great Danes and the greyhounds shown were not all greyhounds. Stick to celebrity lists, because this was very bad information. Stop spreading misinformation! Someone will follow this bad advice and try to keep a Great Dane in an apartment! Do better.
