    What I love most about "Girl meets Rileytown" is that we're never shown **who** is bullying Riley, and it's an amazing aspect of the episode because we never know specifically who is causing Riley harm, all we see is the terrible effects it has on Riley and her loved ones and Riley's growth and learning to love herself. A truly beautiful episode on something so horrible, but extremely real.

    The one episode in Girl Meets World, where the characters are given the assignment to forgive someone for what they did. Maya tried to forgive her dad for abandoning her, but couldn't. In the end, Corey asks if she forgave herself and she broke down crying. It always hit hard

    I think one problem I've had with when these DComs try to handle serious subjects is that it's always a one episode thing. Like Lizzie's best friend has an eating disorder for an episode, but she's over it by the time the credits roll. Issues like this take months, if not years of work, to get under control, and you never "get over it" completely.

  • @ObserverAmanda

    @ObserverAmanda

    I agree with the remark about serious problems always being resolved in a single episode, but this issue has never been exclusive to Disney. This has been happening for decades on numerous networks even in shows for adults. Just FYI, DCOMs stands for Disney Channel Original Movies. This video was just about Disney Channel television shows and syndicated shows that were later shown on that network.

    @trinaq contrary to popular belief Disney isn't bad at handling these types of topics its just since around 2010 alot of parents were claiming that a lot of Disney shows were bringing up topics that were Risqué like Death , Dating social cues, sexuality in general you know the real things that whoever watching has probably has gone through or knows someone who has. Like I remember reading somewhere that If GMW would have continued Maya (Sabrina's character) would have gotten into a serious situation with a older guy (Not Josh) at a college party and that the love triangle would have gotten more tangled with Riley and Maya maybe hooking up. There was a lot they could've done if they were giving a chance

    Yeah like Dawson’s Creek, Beverly Hills 90210 & a bunch of other 90s/early 2000s teen shows that ticked a bunch of issues or similar ones. Wish we would get more shows like this. But instead we get shows like Riverdale of all things 🤢. I don’t want to sound like an senior old man or anything but it’s true what they say, they really don’t make em like they used to.

    I work as a sales assistant at a high end clothing store, and let me tell you, the whole racial profiling thing, it's still very much going on. Every time a poc enters the store, the guard announces us all via station and management makes us follow the poor folks throughout the store and spy on them. I feel so so so bad for them, it must be humiliating to always be treated as a criminal with no evidence.

    Finally someone else who remembers mech x4. I used to love that show back in middle school. I never got to finish it (Disney only aired the first season of the show translated in my language, before cancelling due to poor ratings, and I didn't know enough English back then to be able to understand the rest), but I should totally give it a rewatch now that I am older

    As a kid who suffered a lot of trauma from bullying I loved the episode of Austin and Ally when Trish was bullied because it helped me connect with the character but it really hit me hard. People, especially kids, don't understand how mean they can be and they think it's all fun. And teachers don't do anything about it usually.
