@troll oracle If SOM missiles are copied from NSM, Lockheed Martin and US can use NSM for the 5th generation Multi role fighter F-35. Techonology similar to brick wall if everyone puts a brick it can only develop like that so SOM missiles arent copied from other missiles it just improved and new version of the cruise missile technology so no need to argue.

@@maa1649 I am Turkish but I dont like Erdogan and government but Turkey was urgently need a new long range anti aircraft system and we asked for Patriot system but US government didnt like this idea and we asked for other systems for the Europeans and they didn't like this idea either and as if these werent enough US government terrorist organization that kills children, women and soldiers in our country started to provide weapons to YPG, the Syrian branch of the PKK and as if these werent enough US government has explained YPG are our ally and we will help them. Dude you may not understand the importance for us what i say but if someone living in Turkey following the foreign press you say " Is this a big fucking joke? Dude I think we were ally? " for all this Turkey want to get S-400.

There are bombs has same impact but less weight like SOM

You should show the effects of “Lazy Dog Bombs” they were just thousands of 3 inch find projectiles that could penetrate 2 feet into the ground. They were used in Vietnam and were so effective because you didn’t hear them you just died. They were explosive they simply killed and destroyed by using kinetic force and were banned because they would kill indiscriminately; meaning civilians.

I prefer Turkish SOM and Norwegian JSM Both are stealth cruise missiles with land attack and anti ship capabilities / superior guidance systems for point accuracy with DATA Link and fligh altitude of less than 5 meters also SOM and JSM designed specifically for use in the internal carriage bay of the F-35 JSF

The LRASM OR JASSM ER both have longer ranges and larger warheads and are both stealth cruise missiles.

@troll oracle they dont need too. JASSM ER have such a long range they are dropped well outside of SAM sites radar detection. Used on rotary launchers on B1 lancers or B52s they can just roll and and drop them 700 km away from the target and let them fly low level until they are there. Yes the Joint Strike Missile/ Naval Strike Missile is an awesome missile that is easy to carry. They should make extended range ones hopefully that exceed 200 km. Theres a reason the US adopted them.

@troll oracle High low mode isnt enough. It needs to have a baseline range of 500 km. The NAVAL strike missile is launched of lf the deck of ships mostly like Harpoon missiles and only hsve sbout a 110 mi over the horizon range. Like I said they sre Seriosuly badass missiles which is why the US adopted them. What im saying is if Kberg can make those have a range of even 250 miles off the deck of a warship then your talking a Seriosuly lethal missile able to do shore defense and create a bubble of lethality.

Most of those cruise missiles suffer from the same weakness of the WWII German V-1: they are slow and incapable of evasive action, you see fighters easily following them, so if they are detected in time, they can be shot down pretty easily by fighters, CIWS or some other defensive missile sistem.

From what recall seeing on the nightly News during Gulf war 1 those cruise missiles of ours flew so low and close to the ground they couldn’t be seen on radar and if you were in an aircraft looking for something that small it’d be pretty tough to spot it, especially multiple targets. All in all, they stand a very good chance of getting through.

It's not easy to detec a cruise missile... most of them use a composite shape (reduce the RCS), if they fly at low speed it's also to reduce the IR footprint => IR stealth. Some can adapt their behavior to low flight (reduce the range), and make a high flip only at the end meaning => Reduce the range detection of ennemy radar. And some (generally its for antiship missile, not common cruise deep strike) are able to have an evasive stance. You think its easy to destroy them ? It's false. Most of CIWS are unable to defeat common antiship missile because their litterally fly just above the water and the detection comes too late. To take the typical Exocet... It fly at 315meter per second (Near Mach 1 at 340~). Most of modern system are able to detec tese at 3km+-. You have less than 9scd to detec, lock, fire. If you have a highspeed missile or CIWS gun in position (Or + RtF), you have a chance. But it's unlikely. That's why they stay very deadly. We know how to make Mach3+ missile, but the problem, they dont like to do low fly, the highspeed mean hightemp + med/high flight = early IR detection. That's why one of the lone high speed cruise missile in the west is a nuclear missile (ASMPA).

Number 1 is an old missile, used to carry nuclear warhead, one thing it's got is range of 1600 miles. I think those are about to be retired for a new nuclear cruise missile, but should the US need them in a future war they could always use them since they have about 750 of those.

I helped build those missiles in the 1980s, at the Boeing Space center, in Kent, Washington. When they left the factory they were fully fueled, and ready to fly, minus the W-80 Nuclear Warhead.

They are not getting retired, and they don’t all have nuclear warhead’s. They are use without nuclear warhead‘s for a conventional warfare. It’s one of the best cruise missile was not broke don’t need to be fixed. The only thing I can see the US doing is upgrading it to make it more lethal and making it better at hugging the terrain. Just like the tomahawk they are old as fuck, but they are still using them. They just upgraded them.

SS/SCALP = UK/FR missile + 7 users, it's also the base system of the french MdCN (Naval cruise missile) Taurus = German + 2 users For the spec, they are pretty close, the Taurus is slighly bigger. Why they didnt buy the SS/SCALP and build their own ? Because we are European.
